Kael remained staring at Seraphine.
"They were never allowed to let him die."
"That's what I said."
"I was hoping it would sound less problematic the second time."
"Didn't work?"
"No."
Elion approached.
"Do you remember how he was alive?"
Seraphine closed her eyes.
The memories restored by the bell were still arriving in a disorganized way. Some had scents, others only sounds. Faces appeared without names, and entire places existed without any sense of where they were.
"Aldren was already dead when I knew of him."
Kael frowned.
"That got worse quickly."
"I didn't say I knew him personally."
"Then how?"
Seraphine touched her temple.
"There was a room. A man was showing records to several people. I was among them. Aldren appeared inside a mirror..."
She stopped.
"No. It wasn't a mirror."
Elion waited.
"A window?"
"A throne."
Kael looked at her.
"You were looking at a throne and saw a dead man."
"Yes."
"Naturally."
Sylphie lightly slapped his arm.
