Finally, the group set their first steps into the cave. Scared and half prepared for all the unexpected dangers that could come their way. On the other hand, of everything, the other survivors were at the building, the main base camp, till now. Pharus reaches back to the building.
Jin:
"How was everything there, Pharus?"
Pharus:
"I carried them there, what else was I supposed to do?"
Yin:
(kinda scared of Pharus)
"Baby, I trust you and all, but I don't know why Pharus scares me a bit!"
Jin:
"I suppose that is fair, judging by how we have never even heard about a creature like her!"
Karuno:
"Pharus, can I ask you something?"
Pharus:
"What?"
Karuno:
"How many people have been on this island before us?"
Pharus:
"Not many, it's the first time I have interacted with humans in my whole lifetime. My mother must have known, but she passed away."
Karuno:
"So there were no plane crashes on this side of the island? Ever?"
Pharus:
"None that I know of!"
Shinji:
"I wonder what exactly is on the other side!"
Pharus:
(Squint)
"There is someone behind you, kid! 2 things!"
Shinji:
(looks back)
"Oh, them! They are Gayo and Yuri. They seem to be asleep, I suppose."
Yin:
(looks back and then whispers in Jin's ear)
"She has done nothing ever since we got here. Even I am tired, we all are, but we are not acting like her. How can she sleep after killing someone like that?"
Karuno:
"Bro, you saw the bridge. How do you think we can fix it?"
Shinji:
"I don't really think we can fix that shit, I mean, it's broken, and well, it's like really old. We are better off building a completely new bridge than fixing that one if I am being honest!"
Karuno:
"How can we do that then?"
Jin:
(wonders for a bit)
"It might not be a really good idea, but if we can cut down a big tree and place it between the whole gap, it may work!"
Shinji:
"And how do you expect us to do that? It's not like we have any gear to do that, and surely not the manpower required for it. Karuno and I are literally children."
Yin:
"Yeah, but I saw you fight the green wolves that night, and you seem to be stronger than Jin and me combined!"
Shinji:
"That's because the green wolves aren't really as powerful as they seem. You kick the wolf 2 times with all your might, and it won't get up again."
Jin:
"What? Then how was I struggling?"
Shinji:
"I mean, I wasn't really able to see anything while trying to fight the wolves because I was temporarily blinded after I overdid my foresight."
Jin:
"YOU FOUGHT THEM WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED?"
Karuno:
"I thought you were a vet, Jin! They are predators, they sense fear!"
Jin:
"Oh yeah, you are right, kid, they do sense fear. I get it now, maybe they only attack when they sense that the person in front of them is scared."
Karuno:
"Could be, but what we do know is that they are attracted to blood, that's why they come to hunt!"l
Pharus:
"How do you guys plan on going to the other side of the island now, then?"
Yin:
"I don't wanna think about all that right now, I just wanna go to sleep!"
Karuno:
(Thinks for a bit)
"Guess we can sleep for a bit!"
Jin:
"Are you guys insane?! Sleeping is really more important to you than your lives?"
Yin:
(Yells out of frustration)
"Oh, so we are not allowed to sleep, but they are? SHE LITERALLY COMMITTED MURDER, and she is allowed just to doze off, but we aren't even though we have been working our asses off?! And why wouldn't you want her to get her 'beauty sleep', she's like a model-"
Jin:
(Interrupts Yin)
"Baby, it's not like that-"
Yin:
(Cuts his line)
"SHUT YOUR MOUTH, Jin, do not speak a word. I know you better than you know yourself. She looks so much better than I do. Of course, you would support her!"
Shinji:
"Yin, that's not what he meant. No one deserves anything, and no one is special. If they are unbothered and sleeping in a situation like this, it just means they have a death wish!"
Karuno:
"Yin, there are bigger concerns at hand than sleeping at the moment! An hour of sleep would turn out useless if you don't wake up!"
The argument between Yin and the others continued until a green wolf interrupts them by running towards them, but Pharus catches it in her mouth and then uses her razor-sharp teeth on its neck to kill it right that instance.
Pharus:
(throws the green wolf down from her mouth)
"I won't be catching another one of these if you guys decide to utter another word about sleeping! And speaking of sleeping, I am going to sleep!"
Yin:
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN YOU ARE GOING TO SLEEP?"
Pharus:
(unfazed)
"It's survival for you guys, not for me. I live here!"
Yin:
(confused)
"HUH?"
Shinji:
"We all need to be more careful about all this. At this moment, we had Pharus, but she can't be there to save us all the time."
Karuno:
"What are you planning, big bro?"
Shinji walks up to Yuri and Gayo sleeping, and wakes Gayo up with a slow and gentle pat to his shoulder.
Gayo:
(wakes up and looks around for a second before locking eyes with Pharus)
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT BEHIND YOU, KARUNO! RUNN!!"
Yuri:
(wakes up scared because of Gayo's scream)
"WHAT!"
Karuno:
"Relax, guys, it's Pharus, our new friend. She will do us no harm!"
Gayo:
(scared and pulls Yuri closer to him)
"How can you be so sure it's a wild animal!"
Yin:
(looks at Yuri's face for a second, then yells at Gayo)
"That's why you shouldn't be sleeping in a dying situation like ours!"
Shinji:
"Don't freak yourselves out, guys, she's friendly! Anyway, Gayo, you said you could make us some makeshift weapons. Yin, Karuno and Kitagawa had brought some scraps from the crash site. Would you mind helping us out a bit?"
Gayo starts to work on the weapons and starts to create something that does not resemble any type of weapon whatsoever, while asking questions about Pharus. As he is doing the work, making weapons, Yuri is just sitting there in silence, staring at the top of the stairs that are not at all lit and are barely visible.
Yuri then looks at Karuno, and, slowly looking at him, she tells him to come closer to her.
Yuri:
(whispering in Karuno's ear)
"Do we have some water? I feel really thirsty!"
Karuno:
(whispers back to her)
"I'm sorry but we don't, but we have sent Zohan and the others to a cave to find some!"
Yin:
(looks at Karuno and starts to walk to him)
"Hey Karuno, what are you doing?"
Karuno:
"Oh, she was just asking for some water!"
Yin:
(in a sarcastic tone)
"It's quite unfortunate that we don't have any at the moment!"
Yin's mind is a mind consumed by jealousy and fear. She acts this way when she is angry, hungry, or sleepy. On the other hand, Yuri's mind is consumed by guilt and shame; she feels useless and incapable due to the constant blaming and everyone treating her like an outcast. She also feels like she is the sole reason for the death of the Hama twins.
Shinji:
(in confusion)
"Gayo, don't mind if I ask, but. What in the world is this supposed to be?"
Gayo:
(with confidence in his tone)
"It's a spear, bro!"
Shinji:
"This looks more like a stick with a piece of metal on the top!"
Gayo:
"Yeah! Isn't that exactly what a spear is?"
Shinji:
"It's gonna break on impact instantly!"
Gayo:
"No, it won't!"
Shinji:
(points at the dead body of the green wolf)
"Go try on the body over there!"
As soon as Gayo hits the dead body with the handmade spear, its head breaks and Gayo is only left with a stick in his hand.
Gayo:
"Umm, I think we can duct tape it together!"
Yuri stares at the top of the stairs again, and she sees something up there, something... Looking back at her. It's dark, the thing appears to be a humanoid figure, but far taller than even Kaboto, and it appears to be severely malnourished. Its body is extremely thin. Yet despite staring directly in the eyes of something like that, Yuri doesn't feel scared but rather attracted to whatever the creature may be. Tears start to fall down her face, and her heart is now filled with guilt. Pharus wakes up, and the whole place starts to get cold. As soon as Pharus wakes up, she instantly starts to growl in a very heavy voice.
Pharus:
"GIRL!"
Yuri:
(instantly looks back at Pharus)
Gayo:
(screams)
"THIS THING CAN SPEAK?!"
Jin:
(concerned)
"What happened, Pharus?"
Pharus:
"Can you humans not sense something else in this place?"
Yin:
(scared)
"WHAT?"
Shinji:
"Karuno, come here."
Pharus then explains how she sensed some energy being present with them in this exact place, something really negative.
Pharus:
"This girl saw it; it was calling for her!"
Gayo:
"WHAT? WHY HER?"
Pharus:
"She is the easiest target among all of us! She is the only one who feels any negative emotions of sorrow at the moment!"
Shinji:
"Are you suggesting it was a demon?"
Pharus:
"Demons don't just appear out of thin air, so I don't think it was a demon. But some creatures on this island are Scary!"
Yin:
(panicked)
"FIRST A GIANT TALKING RED WOLF AND NOW A DEMON!?"
Pharus:
"I don't know the name of the creature, but I used to call it the wanderer. It's a creature that usually eats the dead bodies of other creatures to survive. It also targets other beings who express emotions of sorrow, guilt or regret. It doesn't kill you, but it does make you want to kill yourself by increasing the intensity of those negative emotions if you look into their eyes for too long!"
Karuno:
(scared)
"Are they demons?"
Pharus:
"No, and they are not even hostile unless you make eye contact and have any of these negative emotions in your heart. My mother and I used to encounter these a lot, and after she was gone, they started to overwhelm me and almost became the reason for my death!"
Shinji:
"Can the wanderer go anywhere on this island, or does it just stay in this building?"
Pharus:
"I have seen them phase through the walls of this building, going in and out, but it doesn't just live here; it moves to any living creature. Much like the green wolves, these things also sense fear as well, but unlike the green wolves, I don't know if there is a possible way to kill them or if they can even be killed in the first place!"
Karuno:
(concerned)
"If not us, then it must have gone for Zohan and the others!"
At the cave.
Kaboto:
"How far deep does this cave thing go? We have seen nothing till now, and it's hard to breathe in here, and it's hot!"
Omi:
"Quit whining like a baby, you are literally 7 feet tall."
Kaboto:
"It's hot in here because of your head!"
Sato:
(staring off into the distant part of the cave as the crew stops in their tracks, arguing)
The cave's environment turns cold as a tall, thin figure appears in the distant part of the cave.
