The Ways of the World?
Will would stare at Sam for a moment, before Sam would get up from where he was seated, Sam would walk around to the foot of the bed and lay his hands on the frame of the bed.
Sam: "Will, where were you born? Wayside Inn, Renova, maybe even a barrier?"
Will hesitated before answering.
Will: "I was born at Wayside Inn, why?"
Sam: "Alright, you were informed we're in Gaia right?"
Will would nod
Sam: "Gaia, it's a bit of a mess to explain, one side is hot while the other is much colder. We're currently in Sentinel which is in the warmer area of Gaia. Sentinel is right next to the Sea of Dust which is a large desert and is the hottest place in Gaia averaging 35 degrees. This all together makes up the Southern part of Gaia, now if we head to the north we enter the royal wood, it's the largest part of Gaia and connects to the town or Oresfall and the deep forest. It's typically warm and more bearable than the Sea of Dust. Now, if we head to Oresfall it's the town connecting to the coldest area, the Tundra. The Tundra is the coldest part of Gaia, it snows all day and you can't see a foot ahead of you. From what I know, nobody who goes there ever makes it back."
Will: "I think I like it here, it's warm but dangerous." Will would feel the wrap on his wound.
Sam: "I will get into the next part, in Gaia there are 4 types of classes. Sword, Spear, Dagger, and Fist. These weapons all correspond to basically what are abilities you can learn by gaining expertise in that weapon and having money. First off, to use abilities you need something known as Mana."
Will would scratch his head at the ideas Sam was laying out for him.
This is all slightly farfetched, Ajax and his group didn't mention these classes or Mana.
Sam: "Mana, it's the life force that seems to connect everything in this world. Using Mana you can run faster, climb up walls, and apparently create charged punches that can do serious damage."
Will: "Apparently? Are you saying you've never done it?"
Sam would look away for a slight moment
Sam: "I don't actually… Have Mana."
Will would be a little embarrassed for Sam, seeing him embarrassed.
Will: "So, how does somebody acquire Mana?"
Sam: "I'm Glad you asked, the truth is there is only one way to get mana"
Sam would stand up and give Will a stern look as he cleared his throat, "The only way to get Mana is to be hit by a Mana casted spell from a mage."
Will would tilt his head at the prospect forwarded his way.
Sam would continue, "Mana exists everywhere, the atmosphere, in the structures, and of course within ourselves. Mana is crucial to everything, classes use mana to use their techniques. While techniques may use mana they are far different from a mana casted spell."
Will would listen carefully trying to absorb each piece of information he would hear.
"Spells are specific types of mana abilities that can be learned with a scroll, the mage association holds many of these scrolls in their possession."
Sam would perk up as something comes to his mind, "I guess I forgot to tell you that all these spells are categorized as magic and the users of magic are called Mages"
A question would come to Will's mind.
"Mages are the only ones who can use magic? So how do the classes use mana in their techniques?"
"Class techniques are apparently far less complicated from the spells a mage has to learn." Sam would smile a bit saying that, Will would avert his eyes back down to his wounds.
I realize these guys have more figured out than I would have expected, it's such a wonderful thing they saved my life.
Will would look up to Sam and give a faint smile
"You guys really have it all figured out, don't you?"
"For the most part, it took a lot of trial and error. There is still a lot we haven't figured out. Right now our biggest worry is the other people."
Will's smile would fade as he would ask a question that had been eating at him for a bit since he woke up, "I want to know why you saved my life."
Sam would open his eyes in a bit of shock at the question. "What do you mean dude?"
"You have to have some idea of what I have done?" Will would scoff a bit almost hinting at almost a sense of pride in the past events
Sam's calm and collected demeanor would completely disappear as he would take a step forward and sit on the bed and look directly at Will.
"Yeah, I do." Sam would pause for a moment before continuing, "Most people we have met so far are shitty beings, I have a hunch with every passerby that they might just be another person willing to stab us in the back and leave us for dead."
Will would be surprised at the change in tone, almost feeling uncomfortable having Sam this close to his face.
Sam: "I saved your life looking for support from you, stabbing your most trusted allies in the back is surely one hell of a way to get yourself killed just like those others out there. I want your full cooperation, I want to be your friend."
Will's mouth would stutter trying to think of the response to give to that question, his heart would waver weighing the traumatic experience with Ajax to now, has he finally found somebody he can trust in this world?
Sam: "You don't look to be too beat up, if you need some time to think over your decision you will have until tomorrow before we leave. Take some time to think it over, 'kay?"
Sam would rise and take one last look to Will before leaving the room with Isaiah, who had been quiet the entire time.
Will would look at his hands again and would feel a sense of fear. "Shit. I can't take their words seriously at all."
Even if they had saved Will's life it was hard for him to grasp if they were lying to him or not, being lied to before gave him a deep sense of distrust over anybody he met.
Will would clear the thoughts of his head and look over to the window covered by curtains just across from his bed, a small bit of late afternoon sunlight would peek in from the small crack down the center.
Will would remove the covers from himself slowly and attempt to maneuver his legs off the bed and onto the floor. He would feel a sharp pain for the moment but it would be successful and he would rise, despite another pain he would up.
Slowly making his way towards the window he would almost shimmy his way there. He would think back to Sam moments prior commenting that he wasn't that badly injured, quite the contrary unfortunately. Despite the effort he would make it to the window and open the curtains.
A beautiful sunset would be present before his eyes, the first one he had seen so far in his new life and he would appreciate the fact he was able to see it. Will's first day in Gaia was ending and it had left a deep mark on his soul, a new appreciation for life, and a strong journey ahead.
