Chapter 116 - Chapter 116 - The Hospital

Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta City, Georgia.

Thud!

The semi truck slowly came to a complete halt before the hospital, but not before it rammed onto a walker blocking the way.

Everyone quickly alighted from the truck before Glenn hurriedly ran ahead and delivered a final blow to the walker struggling on the ground.

"Are we sure we should even be here?" He asked while looking around them and added. "It looks like this place is occupied."

"How did you come to that when we just arrived?" Nolan asked while holding onto a baseball bat.

Glenn gestured with his finger around their surroundings. "There's dead walkers everywhere. It looks like this area is routinely cleaned up."

"The army occupied this place and turned it into an evacuation center during the outbreak, but it's obvious this place also fell. Though we can't be sure of that since as Glenn stated, there's certainly people living inside the hospital. Hmmm…I was hoping there won't be people though, but I sure hope they won't be too unwelcoming for us." Smiling, Michael looked up towards the tall building while feeling curious about something.

'I wonder if Dawn had already taken over this place from her Captain? But it's still not that long though, so maybe not yet?'

Daryl looked at Michael and asked. "Hey, are we gonna keep standing here or what?"

Michael turned his head towards him and responded. "Come on, let's look around and see if we can find a spot to get into the building."

Following his words, Michael led the way to the front with Daryl at the back, and started looking for a way to get inside.

Meanwhile, on the rooftop of the hospital.

A person in a police uniform was quietly watching them through her binoculars.

"Raiders? It hasn't been long since we repelled one and now there's more coming?" Anxious and horrified, the woman quickly headed back inside and arrived at an office where she found an attractive woman in the same uniform looking through some documents.

"What's wrong? What happened?" Seeing the panicked look on her face, the woman frowned.

The policewoman quickly answered. "Dawn, there's trouble outside. People have appeared and they're already looking for a way to get inside. It won't take long before they find "that"."

Dawn immediately dropped what she's doing and hastily rose from her seat. "Get everyone ready! We'll ambush them the moment they step foot inside that hole."

The policewoman hastily left the room to call the others while Dawn grabbed her gun and an extra magazine and also left a minute later.

The other survivors living in the hospital immediately started looking for cover when they heard that another group of survivors is here again to loot the building, while the other police officers slowly gathered together in a corner.

"Dammit, it was only two days ago when we got attacked. Now, another one shows up?" one policeman complained while feeling anxious and worried.

The policewoman, the one who reported to Dawn earlier, responded. "Quiet down, will you? People are already afraid."

"So what? We're the ones risking our life protecting them, Amanda." the fair-skinned policeman retorted.

Dawn was walking down the hallway when she saw them gathered at the corner and quickly scolded them. "What are you still dawdling here for?! Let's go!"

Walking past them, Amanda and the bald fair-skinned policeman exchange a look, and in that brief exchange, a lot of unspoken thoughts were conveyed between the two.

The several police officers hurriedly left through the emergency exit and down the stairs with guns drawn.

Meanwhile,

Michael and others are still looking for a way inside the building and so far, they still have no luck.

"It's certain that there's people inside with how thoroughly every window was barricaded." Glenn said while they were walking past a row of windows that were reinforced with metals of different sizes and types. Though the glass on the windows does not exist anymore as it was clear they purposely removed when looking at the remnants at the jambs.

"It seems this place still had power when they welded those things."

Nolan hurriedly walked ahead and right beside Michael. He hesitated for just a moment before asking. "Aren't you really strong, boss?' Why don't you try ripping those reinforced windows? I think we can get inside if you get rid of at least two of those metal rods."

Michael looked at him and said. "You think I'm some kind of a superhero or something?"

Nolan shrugged his shoulders. "But we saw you lifting Daryl's bike with no trouble though, I doubt those reinforced barriers wouldn't budge under your strength."

"Those are two different things, dumbass. No matter how strong I am, I think that's still something impossible." He chuckled, but he also grew curious though since he actually never tried wrenching one before.

"You won't lose anything if you try it." Glenn encouraged him since he was also curious if the man could actually do it.

Michael sighed and looked at Daryl, who just shrugged his shoulders at him when their eyes met.

"I'll try. You guys keep an eye out. I'm sure the people residing inside this hospital already know we're here." said Michael while loosening up his shoulder. He stood before one the windows and grabbed one of the metal bars.

'If I do this right, I think I can pull it off since it's easier to push than to pull, but who the heck thought it was a good idea to weld it like this?' Michael thought when he finally noticed that the metal bars were welded from the inside.

Twank!

'Hmm..? it came off easy? I didn't even put that much force behind it.' He got startled since the metal bar came off as easy as taking off a pen cap. He looked at the people behind him and showed it to them.

"Well, it came off easy."

"What the heck? Who's the idiot that welded it like this?" Nolan came running to him and also noticed how the metal reinforcement was welded.

"Enough of that, let's head in from here." Michael grabbed him and pulled him away.

He turned his attention back towards the window and raised his foot before he Spartan kicked it.

"Sparta~"

Bang!

Clang!

The metal rod flew inside and rolled down the floor with a metallic noise.

"Shouldn't we be quieter? The whole neighborhood had probably heard that." Glenn said with worry and entered following Nolan with Daryl just behind him.

"It's a dang ghost town already. Probably only those inside would have heard it."

Three blocks down from the hospital, there's a large swarm of walkers idling quietly on the street, and when the sound of something had reached their ears. They were like a doorbell camera that'll active once it detected movement, and a large portion of these walkers turned their heads towards the direction of where the sound came from and started moving towards it.

"Ahhh, brains~"
