Cherreads

Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Kushina arrives

[Draw complete. You obtained the following items:]

[Potion x2, Burn Heal x5, Poké Ball x3, Cherish Ball x1, Nugget x1, Chimchar Egg x1, TM: Spark x1, Exp. Candy XS x3, Leftovers x1, Moomoo Milk x2]

After the draw finished, Uchiha Hayato's bag was suddenly packed with all kinds of items.

He silently went through everything he'd received. Potions and Burn Heals were common medical supplies, useful in real combat and daily training alike.

The Nugget, on the other hand, was something you could trade for money. The headache was that he had no way to explain where it came from. Both his parents died on missions. The village and the clan knew his family's financial situation inside and out. Unless he came clean and admitted he had the ability to summon items from another world.

[Spark: Cloak your body in electricity and slam into the opponent. May sometimes paralyze the target.]

Hayato raised an eyebrow. In the Pokémon world, this was an Electric-type physical move with a base power of 65. But reading the description, it sounded an awful lot like Lightning Release Chakra Mode. If he kept using it, would it eventually function the same way?

He was getting excited.

[Exp. Candy XS: Permanently increases chakra reserves by a small amount.]

Hayato looked at the pale-green wrapped candy in his hand and popped it into his mouth. Faintly sweet. His internal chakra reserves grew a little, though the effect wasn't dramatic. Still, he was in a good mood. Every little bit adds up. Someday he'd be sitting on a mountain of chakra.

Small goal first: get his chakra reserves up to one Kakashi's worth.

[Leftovers: While carrying this item, injuries slowly recover over time.]

In the original games, it looked like a half-eaten apple core. Here, it had become a small white pendant.

Hayato couldn't help but laugh as he hung it around his neck. "So does this basically make me a budget Sage Body?"

But none of that was the main attraction. What drew him most was the Pokémon egg.

For shinobi, summoning beasts were a critical part of your combat strength. Jiraiya and his teammates, who hadn't yet earned the title of the Legendary Sannin, would one day fight alongside their summons on the battlefield of Amegakure and make a name for themselves. The Third Hokage Sarutobi Hiruzen's Enma was practically his right hand if you don't count Danzo.

His gaze fixed on the Chimchar egg as he murmured to himself, "Does this mean I have my own summoning beast now?" A warm pulse of joy ran through him, and in the next moment, a warm egg appeared in his arms.

Just as he held it with anticipation, the warm egg cracked open in his embrace. He could feel a heartbeat pulsing from inside. The shell fractured apart, and a burst of brilliant light erupted from within, flooding the entire room.

Hayato squinted. When the glow faded, a tiny, adorable Chimchar sat in his hands.

"Chiii~!"

The little Chimchar tilted its head, round eyes sparkling with mischief. Once it confirmed the human in front of it was a friend, it immediately leaped off him and started bouncing all over Hayato's room.

"Hey, wait, where are you going?"

This Chimchar was clearly the rambunctious type. Barely hatched and already refusing to sit still, exploring everything in sight.

Hayato scrambled to keep up, fumbling the Cherish Ball out in front of it. "Will you be my partner?" He looked at the little Chimchar nervously. Even though it was born from the system, it had a mind of its own. It was a living, breathing creature.

Chimchar turned around with a goofy look, placed its fuzzy little paw on top of his palm, the flame on its tail flickering and dancing with excitement. Then, in a flash of white light, it vanished into the Cherish Ball.

Hayato clenched his fist. A Pokémon... I got one!

At the same time, he noticed his system status had changed.

[Name: Uchiha Hayato]

[Egg Group: Human-Like, Field]

[Ability: ??? (Blaze available to equip)]

[Type: Fire, Electric, Water, Yin]

[Moves: Transformation Jutsu, Concealment Jutsu, Escape Jutsu]

[Pokémon: Chimchar]

[Bag: Potion x3, Burn Heal x5, Poké Ball x3, Nugget x1, TM: Spark x1, Moomoo Milk x2]

[World Alteration: 0.12%]

Abilities can be shared? Hayato was stunned. He really had turned into a human-shaped Pokémon.

Without hesitation, he equipped the Blaze ability. Nothing seemed to change. Hayato shook his head. If possible, he'd rather Blaze never activated, because that would mean he was already in danger.

He pressed the button on the Cherish Ball, let Chimchar back out, and revised his life plan entirely.

Short-term: learn Spark. Master the Summoning Jutsu and form a proper contract with Chimchar.

Long-term... Hayato thought it over. Survive the Great Ninja Wars. If at all possible, become the Fourth Hokage. Change Konoha. Make Pokémon Great Again!

Hayato nodded quietly to himself. If there was no Uchiha Obito, no Naruto or Sasuke needed to save the world, if the ninja world could find peace on its own, maybe the future wouldn't be so bleak.

"Chi... chi..."

Chimchar hopped in place a couple of times, its big dark eyes staring up at him pitifully, looking like it was about to burst into tears any second.

"What's wrong, little guy?" Hayato looked at Chimchar, a warm smile spreading across his face.

"Grrrrrr..." That was Chimchar's stomach growling. The little thing was hungry. Seeing its sad puppy expression, Hayato couldn't hold back a quiet laugh.

Looks like before he could become a shinobi, he'd need to be a babysitter first.

When the new semester started, Hayato brought Chimchar along to the Ninja Academy.

Today, Uchiha Hayato had put unusual effort into his appearance. A fitted black shirt layered under a sky-blue jacket, a small Uchiha fan crest embroidered neatly on the chest. Simple but sharp. His neatly combed short hair framed a face that was still boyish but carried a cool edge, and the easy smile on his lips softened what would otherwise be a distant expression.

Hayato was quite satisfied with how he looked. People are visual creatures. First impressions matter. Setting aside battlefield accomplishments, one of the big reasons Orochimaru lost the Hokage race to Namikaze Minato was the latter's charisma and likability.

He was a second-year at the Academy now. The school didn't teach much that was actually useful. Most of it was ninja world geography and history, plus theoretical ninja knowledge. Taijutsu and ninjutsu classes barely made up a sliver of the curriculum.

Still, his system mentioned World Alteration. So he needed to act like a tiny butterfly, beating its wings harder and harder until the ripple became a storm.

"What kind of ninja beast is that?"

"Never seen one before. It's a monkey. Is it related to the Hokage's Enma?"

"But that kid's an Uchiha."

Everyone's eyes were glued to Chimchar. Anyone could tell at a glance that this was no ordinary creature.

"Good morning, Hayato." Namikaze Minato greeted him with a smile, though his gaze lingered on the Chimchar perched on Hayato's shoulder, curiosity written all over his face.

"We've known each other this long, and you never once mentioned you had a summoning beast?" Minato thought to himself, a hint of envy flickering in his eyes.

He'd never seen anything like it, but Chimchar's bright, lively eyes, its fuzzy little body, and the flame blazing on its tail all captivated him completely.

"Morning, Minato. This is my partner, Chimchar. You can call him Koen." Hayato smiled faintly, and the two settled into their seats.

The blond boy had a thousand questions, but the school bell cut him off before he could ask any of them.

A red-haired girl walked into the classroom behind the teacher.

"Starting today, we have a new transfer student joining our class..."

"I'm Uzumaki Kushina!"
