"Sort of. But before you get the wrong idea. Therapy is zero percent of my knowledge base. So come on. You stopped me from reading so, let's just do this." She urged.
Kate made disgusted noises, laughing. "Continuing my storieeee! I am moving ahead with the rouse. And it worked for so long. I don't even know how I got Sakura's attention. Then I got Richard and Riley's attention, Riley called me fat."
"She used the words?" Elsie asked, the corners of her lips quirking up.
"I'm assuming you know them?" Kate asked.
"No. But I know Gen and myself."
"I don't know what that means."
"You're stalling."
"Fine, anyway. I was going with it so much that it felt like a dream. Your people are so amazingly hot, you're all so rich and blah, blah, blah."
"And you just kept going?"
"I am I wrong for that?"
Elsie crossed her arms with purpose.
"It never cross your mind that you were being set up?"
"It was literally the only thing on my mind."
"And yet…"
"Yes." Kate sighed.
"No one told you what was gonna happen?"
"You sister showed me her ass just to warn me. I told you this."
"And yet you were caught?"
Kate stared at Elsie, "What are you trying to say?"
"You're angry right? You had access to a screen and never used it. You don't talk to the nurses, stare at the ground all the time."
Kate's brow rose, frowning. Elsie's face was open and expectant of a response. But after getting nothing, she kept going.
"You're spiraling."
Kate made a show of groaning loudly.
"Oh you effing got me!" Kate yelled.
"What?" Elsie asked, jumping.
"You did not eye that. You aren't reading me. You read a damn chart!"
She stiffened, somehow looking more posh.
"Of course I read your chart, of course I looked up what's happening. What else is reading if not that?"
"You want to know what reading is?" Kate hissed.
"Sure." She said simply.
"You" Kate stopped. She didn't know why but it was important that she stop, yes, there was rage building up inside of her, harsh and acidic in how unfair everything had been. She'd been ripped to pieces by her own realization. But that girl in front of her was her only girl. There were no replacement girls, no plan B girls, no plan B boys either. The plan had been to rip at her, stab and gut the only person who gave a shit. She had to cover her face, pressing down on her sockets to relieve the pressure and try not to be seen.
"You." She tried again. "You're an idiot. And I specifically want you to know that I was kinda happy a second ago when I thought you were just here to be here, maybe you were even her for me."
"Isn't it better that I'm here because you're not doing great?"
"And it had nothing to do with getting a better grade?"
"I see." Elsie said simply.
Kate didn't like how simply that was, that had been the voice of the offended. Kate did not have it in her gut to keep her in the room, to apologize or prostate herself to make Elsie stay. She just didn't have it.
