Chapter 48 - The Human Faction

Underneath the Casino, the human faction was having a meeting.

Sitting at the table was Francesca Guerrera, head of the Guerrera Family, with said family behind her.

Tripp was in his seat as the hunter's acting head, having gained the respect of the others, who stood behind him.

Next to him sat Matt and Bonnie.

And Father Kieran O'Connell, with a seat at the table with Cami by his side, and his men behind him.

In addition, there was the mayor, the chief of police, and their people, as well as Cami's cousin, Declan, who was also getting a stink eye from her for knowing and not telling.

"Today marks the first grand meeting of the new human faction that will decide the fate of our city going forward. Let's begin the discussion with Father Kieran, who called for this meeting," said Francesca, acting speaker for the event, given the location.

Father Kieran stood up and cleared his throat, "Ahem, thank you. I think you all know why we're here. The supernatural elements in our town have gotten out of control and are starting to spill out into the streets, harming innocent civilians. As such, I propose we arm ourselves with weapons that can turn the tide of this fight to our favor," he said, gesturing for his people to place the boxes on the table.

"Within these boxes are the many Dark Objects I have acquired over the years through various means, each with their own unique power," said Kieran, pulling the top off a box and taking out some of them.

"This Tibetan Idol, for example, has the ability to weaken an entire army."

"The Devil's Star has been cursed with the intention of injuring and likely killing the person stabbed by it by causing a thousand cuts all over the body," said Kieran, pulling out a dark object in the form of a shuriken, or throwing star.

"The Bracelet of Obedience has been cursed to allow the wearer (usually a witch) to enslave a person to their will," said Kieran, pulling out a dark object in the form of a bangle bracelet.

"The Cursed Shackles have been cursed in order to shackle witches and prevent them from using magic against their captors," said Kieran, pulling out two dark objects in the form of wrought-iron manacles.

Bonnie gave those last two a wary look.

"These are just some of the objects I have within these boxes, and with them we can fight back and free our city from their evil," said Kieran righteously.

"Alright! Now we're talking," said Galen cheerily.

"Why do you only bring these to us now?" asked the police chief.

"Using dark objects carries risk, a risk I wasn't willing to take until now," said Kieran.

"What risk?" asked the mayor.

"Not all risks are known, but from what I've seen, they can warp the mind, make you crave using them even when you don't want to anymore," said Kieran.

This began a debate with many questions before Bonnie was able to speak after introducing herself.

The police chief stood up threateningly, "A witch! What is she doing here!?"

The hunters each stood up for her in turn, minus Jay, weapons readied, as the room grew tense.

Kieran stood hands raised, "Please, we are all friends here after the same thing. From what I'm told, this is Bonnie Bennett, a witch from Mystic Falls, who personally fought against the Originals there before they came here."

"We can verify that," Tripp confirmed.

The mayor patted the police chief's arm to get him to stand down before turning towards the witch. "Bonnie Bennett, is it? Why are you here?"

Bonnie sneered, "Same as any hunter, I expect, revenge... I also have objects that may help bring not only this city, but the world peace," Bonnie remarked, gesturing for Matt to place a suitcase on the table.

Opening it, she revealed four daggers: two gold and two silver, along with four vials filled with ash.

"The gold daggers can be used to put down Klaus, the silver daggers can be used to put down the other Originals," said Bonnie.

They each stood for a closer look, sparking another debate.

"And that's not even the best part," Matt smirked once the talking subsided, placing the musical device on the table.

Tripp grinned, taking over the presentation, "This is our greatest weapon, something that requires a demonstration, Jay, Connor, if you would be so kind to bring our guest."

They came back with a vampire in chains.

"Release him," said Tripp.

"What is this?" asked the chief of police suspiciously.

"Patience, no one will be harmed; besides, we'd be the first to get attacked," said Tripp, brushing away his concerns.

Giving the chief a look, the mayor shut down any further interruptions. "Proceed."

Releasing the vampire, Matt opened the box, and as soon as it moved, it crumbled, clutching at its ears.

"As you can see, with this…"

One of the Guerrera's suddenly ran forward, having spotted and confirmed his objective, shouting, "Katherine Pierce sends her regards!" Ripping his shirt apart, revealing the bomb underneath.

Bonnie's eyes widened, looking towards Matt just before everything turned bright white. Barely managing to raise a shield in time as the world around her exploded and the building above collapsed.

Dazed from the impact and the weight of destruction pressing down on her, it took a moment to gather enough magic to free herself from the burden.

Worried for her friend, she cried out, "Matt!" unsure if she extended the shield in time to protect him.

"Bonnie!" came a weak response with a series of harsh coughs.

Using her magic to clear debris, she found him badly injured. His body skewered, mangled, and crushed, it was a miracle he wasn't dead already.

"If only I were faster, I'm sorry Matt, I'm so sorry," she cried, looking devastated.

"No, this is my fault, I saw Katherine when we were saving Tyler, but I thought I was hallucinating Elena," said Matt, coughing painfully.

"No, Matt, I'll save you!" cried Bonnie, clearing more debris and giving them more room.

"Stop, 'cough', Bonnie, 'cough'," Matt strained against the pain, spitting up blood.

"Hold on Matt, I'll save you… I know! If I kill you, I'm supernatural," said Bonnie, shaking away her tears.

"Stop," Matt gasped, extending his hand toward her, "That won't work; I'm too far gone."

Taking his hand, Bonnie stopped, "You can't leave me," she choked.

"It'll be okay, Bonnie… You're strong," Matt coughed.

"No, I can't, not without you. Don't leave me alone," she cried.

"You can," said Matt softly as he took his last breath, his grip going slack.

"No, Matt… Please," she begged him, tears flowing as she collapsed into him, bawling.
