Chapter 172 - Before the Crossing of Worlds

The new year begins with noticeable changes across Kael's circle. Void, now fully acknowledged as Kael's close tamed demon, regains full access to his abilities and grows steadily more reliable. Pallas senses that her time is approaching and quietly prepares to enter a long slumber. Lyra dedicates herself to caring for the children at the orphanage, while Luminor, now fully settled into his role as a knowledge-bound being, spends most of his days buried in books or assisting Arra—the magic engineer who has completely recovered—in dangerous but productive experiments.

Vex continues his erratic behavior, obsessively creating new potions with little concern for safety. Thorne, together with his secret lover, roams from territory to territory, challenging increasingly dangerous dungeons. Arden returns to his ninja clan to undergo harsher training and reclaim his roots. Elian escorts Amara back to the Overflowing Blackwood Forest to live among the elves. There, Amara, as a rare special-class mage, begins experimenting with abomination magic, using the forest's monsters as test subjects. Malina returns north to her father's noble domain to further train her beasts and phantoms, while Zephyr takes on the responsibility of personally training Blue.

After spending peaceful time with Lyra, Kael prepares himself to begin his cross-world journey and fulfill the task assigned by the Gods. One day before his departure, he and his companions decide to take a short vacation in a seaside town renowned for its seafood and rare delicacies. This time, Aelric and many others join them, turning the trip into a full gathering of the Eldrath family.

Lord Eldran Eldrath, the family patriarch, arrives with Lady Velina Eldrath, his second wife. All of Eldran's children attend—Arcturus, Kaiden, Varyn, Selene, Marielle, Thalia, and Aelric—each bringing their own families. Velina's triplets, Evelyne, Alina, and Daeron, also attend. Though unmarried, all three are already engaged, with Daeron betrothed to the Third Princess. The seaside town quickly becomes crowded with Eldrath bloodlines spanning multiple generations.

Aelric's immediate family is also present: Lady Seraphelle Eldrath, Kael's mother; Kael himself; Amara; and Blue. The reunion grows even more extraordinary when the royal family unexpectedly joins the vacation. King Valtherion Theron arrives with Queen Willow, accompanied by the First Prince Atlas, the Second Prince Cedar, the First Princess Cypress, the Second Princess Holly, and the Third Princess White—who is officially engaged to Daeron.

Seeing both the Eldrath clan and the royal family gathered in one place, Eldran questions the king about who is governing the kingdom in their absence. King Valtherion laughs and reveals that, thanks to Kael's assistance, a "king" remains on the throne. Kael has used his cloning skill to create a perfect double of the king, capable of ruling in his stead. Eldran casts a meaningful look at Kael, recognizing the weight his grandson now carries.

Kael then openly announces to everyone that he will soon be traveling across worlds to fight battles beyond their understanding. His journey may take a long time, but it is necessary to protect their world from future destruction. In response, Kael decides to extend his stay and spend two additional days with his family and friends before departing.

During the vacation, Arcturus privately calls Kael aside to ask for help. His youngest daughter has awakened spirit magic and is struggling to control it. Kael initially reacts with mild disbelief, reminding his uncle that Arcturus himself is a powerful fire mage. However, Arcturus insists, revealing his true request—he wants Kael to summon Queen Seraphel, the Queen of Spirits, to guide his daughter, even if only once. In that moment, Kael realizes how deeply his uncles and aunts trust him, and how intertwined his fate has become with every branch of the Eldrath family.
