The next day was the day after Eddie took his Pokémon to relax.
Early in the morning, when Eddie walked out of the laboratory to start training, Blaine approached him with a serious expression.
"Eddie, you'd better return to Pallet Town right away. I received some news that something has happened in Pallet Town."
"But the specific information seems to have been blocked by the League. You should go back and check the situation now."
Blaine knew quite a few people. This morning, a League officer friend of his told him that someone had reported an incident in Pallet Town. The League unanimously believed that it was Team Rocket causing trouble, so he should prepare for war.
"Something happened in Pallet Town?!"
Eddie raised his eyebrows in surprise.
Although he knew Team Rocket would take action, he didn't expect it to happen so soon.
It wasn't that he didn't want to go back early to take precautions, but he simply didn't think it was necessary.
Regardless of whether Team Rocket captured the townspeople of Pallet Town or not, he would still go to Saffron City to fight them.
In the original story, they never harmed the townspeople of Pallet Town. Well, it seemed they had no choice but to act that way.
They did this just to lure Ash, Gary, and the others, and to destroy them in one decisive strike—these powerful trainers who had always opposed Team Rocket.
Originally, they wanted to force Ash and Gary to come to Saffron City for battle through this move, but now they probably also wanted to force Eddie to come.
But as mentioned before, Team Rocket had no intention of harming the residents of Pallet Town, so Eddie hadn't gone back in advance to prevent this from happening.
Furthermore, he didn't know the exact time when this incident would occur, and the original story didn't mention it either. How could he prevent it? Should he give up his training and go back early to guard Pallet Town constantly?
It would be better to wait until they were captured, and then Eddie would deal with Team Rocket and solve the root problem directly.
Finally, he wasn't afraid of fighting Team Rocket alone, but he was concerned if there were three executives leading Team Rocket's forces.
He could face the three executives, but he couldn't stop all the other members of Team Rocket, so the result would be the same. Even if the opponents brought the three Legendary Birds, Pallet Town would probably be destroyed by the aftermath of the battle anyway.
Therefore, Eddie had ultimately chosen to set this matter aside for now. He would focus on training and improving himself, and wait for the war to start before going to rescue everyone.
However, he hadn't expected Team Rocket to act so quickly. He had only been on Cinnabar Island for a few days and they had already accomplished this.
"Alright, Blaine, I'll head back now. We'll see each other on the battlefield."
Now that Team Rocket had already taken action, he couldn't continue training—now was the time to fight.
But he had to go back to Pallet Town first to meet up with Ash and Gary. They would probably be returning by now as well.
Eddie thought about it and released his fastest Pokémon, Garchomp, rode on it, and flew away.
Blaine stood on the ground near the lava, watching a huge sonic boom cloud erupt in the sky. Then he adjusted his sunglasses and returned to the laboratory to make final preparations for the decisive battle with Team Rocket.
To the north of Cinnabar Island was Pallet Town. Although it looked very close on the map, it would still take some time even for a Garchomp to fly there.
At this time, Eddie opened his Pokédex and called Green.
However, the call connected almost immediately after Eddie dialed. It seemed that Green was also using her Pokédex at that moment.
"Eddie! I got some news. Something seems to have happened in Pallet Town! And now a large number of Team Rocket members have appeared in Saffron City. They've already started taking action!"
"Not only that, there's now a huge energy barrier covering the entire city. Is this a Light Screen? How many Pokémon were used to create such a large Light Screen?! And this thing is so strong that Blastoise can't break through it no matter how hard it attacks."
Green became unusually anxious. It was obvious that Team Rocket's actions were much faster than she had imagined, and because of the Light Screen, she couldn't get inside at all.
"Calm down. Don't act rashly. Don't fight Team Rocket alone. Find a place to rest first. I'm on my way back to Pallet Town. I'll meet up with Ash and Gary first, and then we'll come to your location together."
"Green, you need to be prepared. We may be the main force against the three executives."
Although that was what he said, Green was smart enough to understand that Eddie's mention of psychological preparation didn't refer to just the three executives, but to the three Legendary Birds.
"Eddie, don't worry. Although the time was short, I've made some preparations on my end. The battle should be manageable."
Eddie felt relieved after hearing that, and then he spoke to Green for a few more moments before hanging up.
"Ring ring ring!"
However, just after Eddie hung up, the Pokédex rang again.
"Eddie, they've begun to act. The Supreme Chairman of the Pokémon League has personally appointed me as the Commander-in-Chief of Kanto, and I'm fully responsible for all matters regarding the Kanto League."
"And right now, Brock and Misty are also setting out with the trainers they've already gathered, preparing to completely surround Saffron City from the four directions—east, south, west, and north."
The caller was Erika. She knew the situation was urgent, so she only explained the key points to Eddie and asked where he was.
"I'm on my way back to Pallet Town, planning to bring Ash and Gary with me. You should surround Saffron City first—I'll be there soon."
"By the way, Blaine is back. Give him a call and he'll follow your instructions. There should be a main Gym Leader commanding each of the four directions."
Eddie wasn't vague and quickly told Erika his approximate itinerary and Blaine's contact information. She understood after hearing it, then said "we must survive together" and hung up.
As the Commander-in-Chief of Kanto, Erika must be incredibly busy. The fact that she was able to take a few minutes to inform Eddie about the situation showed that she was squeezing time out of her packed schedule.
"It seems everyone has taken action. Then I need to take charge of bringing those two super-skilled Rookies over."
Although Eddie was joking, there was a hint of seriousness in his eyes.
War was coming, and even he had to prepare himself mentally.
After a while, Eddie, who was riding on Garchomp, saw land, and then he ordered Garchomp to start descending at an angle.
From the air, Eddie had already seen the deserted Pallet Town, and the place where he landed was near Professor Oak's laboratory.
However, the next second after Eddie landed, he heard a familiar voice.
"You're back."
Eddie turned around and saw Gary with an angry expression and Ash with a serious look on his face.
The super-skilled Rookies had reunited in Pallet Town.
