...
With Rayquaza's capture complete, the system immediately delivered both the mission rewards and Rayquaza's data to Liam.
At this moment, however, Liam couldn't care less about the rewards. A brilliant smile spread across his face as he rushed forward and picked up the PokeBall from the ground.
"Haha! I actually caught Rayquaza!!"
Holding the Dream Ball containing Rayquaza, Liam raised it toward the sky and shouted at the top of his lungs.
His emotions could only be described as overwhelming.
The joy surging through him was impossible to suppress. Even the hand holding the PokeBall was trembling slightly.
And honestly, who could blame him?
This was the first time Liam had truly captured a Legendary Pokémon—and not just any Legendary, but one as powerful as Rayquaza.
In the past, he had used special PokeBalls to capture the three Legendary Birds, but that had been based on mutual cooperation. Before capturing them, he had already promised that once everything was over, he would return their freedom.
And he had kept that promise.
Although several other Legendary Pokémon had since formed summoning contracts with him, those agreements merely meant they would come to his aid in critical moments.
Compared to Rayquaza, which was now genuinely his Pokémon, there was still a world of difference.
...…
"EUUS~"
While Liam was still basking in excitement, Deoxys, who had been floating silently in the sky, descended and stopped beside him.
It extended one of its tentacles and touched Liam gently.
Buzz~
"Where... did the black one go?"
Confusion filled Deoxys's voice.
"The black one? Rayquaza?" Liam chuckled. "I've already captured it. It's inside this PokeBall now."
He opened his palm and showed the Dream Ball to Deoxys.
Buzz~
"We... won?"
Deoxys stared at the small sphere and asked uncertainly.
"Yes. We won. It was a victory we achieved together."
Liam nodded with a smile, using his other hand to stroke Garchomp's head proudly.
"Kaaooh~"
Under Liam's touch, light flowed across Garchomp's body. A moment later, Garchomp reverted from its Mega Evolution state.
With narrowed eyes, it let out a low growl and affectionately rubbed against Liam's hand like a spoiled child.
"ROAR!"
Nearby, Aerodactyl also growled and reverted to its original form.
"...Deoxys."
Watching Liam and Garchomp together, a gentle emotion appeared in Deoxys's normally cold eyes.
It seemed to be reminiscing about something. Yet there was even more loneliness than nostalgia.
"What's wrong, Deoxys?"
Liam immediately noticed the change.
"Deoxys... Deoxys..."
But Deoxys only shook its head softly. Then it raised its head and gazed into the night sky.
The aurora still shimmered overhead, not yet faded. As it watched, it slowly fell into thought.
Liam didn't disturb it. He simply took out Garchomp's PokeBall and recalled it.
Then—
Buzz~
"I... no longer know... what I should do next."
"I arrived... on this world... a very, very long time ago. Then... I was attacked and fell into a deep sleep. I don't know how much time has passed."
"My friends... are long gone."
"I want to travel into space and search for them... but that journey will likely take a very long time."
"And I... don't want to be alone anymore."
As time had passed, Deoxys's telepathic communication had become increasingly fluent.
Even so, its thoughts carried an unmistakable loneliness.
Through the tentacle touching Liam, every word was transmitted directly into his mind.
After hearing Deoxys's story, Liam thought carefully.
He remembered that, in the future, two other Deoxys would indeed arrive on this planet, but after doing some mental calculations, he realized that Deoxys would have to wait at least five or six more years before meeting them.
Whether it could endure that wait was another matter entirely.
So Liam spoke.
"Don't worry, Deoxys. I'm sure your companions will come looking for you one day. It's only a matter of time."
He paused briefly.
"But if the waiting becomes too lonely..."
"You can stay with me."
"Let me be your companion for now. We can travel together. We can go on adventures together."
"I believe it would be an incredible journey. What do you think? Would you like that?"
Liam extended his hand toward Deoxys.
His invitation was sincere.
Buzz~
"A companion..."
Deoxys looked at the outstretched hand and fell silent for a moment.
"You were the one who awakened me. You were also... the one who saved me again. And you defeated that black one. I trust you."
"Although I am not a lifeform native to this planet… If you truly don't mind… I would be willing to accompany you for a time."
Deoxys extended a tentacle and gently wrapped it around Liam's arm.
Its telepathic voice had become clearer and smoother than ever.
This was its solemn answer.
"Of course I don't mind."
Liam firmly grasped Deoxys's tentacle.
"In my eyes, you're still a Pokémon. It doesn't matter whether you originated on this planet or not. You're still a Pokémon. And I'm a Trainer. A Trainer who considers Pokémon to be family and companions."
"Thank you for trusting me, Deoxys. I believe we'll become very good friends."
Liam tightened his grip slightly, as though hoping his feelings would be conveyed more clearly that way.
Buzz~
"Friends..."
"Well said my friend. Your conviction has never wavered. Those words came from the deepest part of your heart. I believe you….. My friend."
"From now on... please take care of me."
"I will."
