Chapter 59 - Chapter 59: Damn That Trainer!

Dreams—those were just dreams. Right now, there was no way Dratini could ever become a Legendary Pokémon like Eternatus. But hey, people need dreams, right? Eternatus is a Dragon-type, and so is Dragonite. Maybe... just maybe, it's not completely impossible.

Of course, Gabriel kept those thoughts to himself. But he had already decided on the direction for Dratini's development: harnessing the power of Dynamax energy.

Dynamax energy—an overwhelming force in its own right—would be the key. He was no longer interested in simple stat growth or temporary evolution. What he wanted was a true transformation—an internal change that elevated Gabriel's very essence. The path he'd chosen would push the limits of ordinary training, and if they succeeded, the result would be closer to a mythical beast than a typical Dragonite.

This wasn't some random fantasy either. Gabriel already had the groundwork laid.

He flipped open his Rotom Phone—Meyu—and started reading the files sent over by Everette, the researcher now working at Jindu Academy. The dense data on Dynamax energy, biological responses, and compatible evolutionary pathways scrolled across the screen.

"You should train Dratini to utilize Dynamax energy passively during battle," Everette had written. "Even outside of an actual Dynamax transformation, you can train the body to become more attuned to the energy. Over time, it will change the Beast physiological thresholds."

In simple terms: turn Dynamax energy into a passive buff.

This wasn't just a fantasy. Everette had backed his suggestion with examples of Galar Pokémon who'd adapted to Dynamax exposure even without access to a Power Spot. Certain species—even unevolved ones—showed signs of stat growth, energy amplification, and elemental resistance after repeated exposure.

Gabriel couldn't help but chuckle.

So the researchers in Galar had already figured some of this out, huh? But even if that was true, it didn't mean the rest of the world could easily replicate it.

Well, it didn't matter. He had something better—he had Everette.

The guy was sharp, ambitious, and willing to bet his future on Dynamax energy research. He might even become a member of the Elite Four someday. With that kind of backing, Gabriel felt confident pursuing this unorthodox route.

Dratini's training started that afternoon.

The plan was brutal.

First, simulate extreme gravity to mimic the pressure of a Dynamax transformation. Then, introduce an energy feedback loop using the prototype Dynamax Band Everette had developed. It couldn't trigger a full Dynamax shift, but it could generate controlled bursts of energy—just enough to force Dratini's body to adapt.

Dratini groaned the moment the energy kicked in. Its small body trembled slightly, eyes narrowing as the surge flooded its muscles. Gabriel knelt beside it, hand on its back.

"You okay?" he asked gently.

Dratini gritted its teeth and nodded.

Good.

They pushed forward.

By the third session, Dratini was already showing minor changes—its scales were subtly more iridescent, and its reaction time had improved. But that wasn't the real goal. What Gabriel wanted was complete harmony between body and energy. That would take weeks, maybe months.

And time... wasn't something they had in abundance.

The academy's midterm evaluation was coming up. Every student would be ranked, and those who failed to meet the benchmark would be demoted—or worse, expelled. Gabriel didn't care about status, but he wasn't going to let Dratini's progress get interrupted.

He looked at his partner, now panting but still standing tall.

"You did great today," he said.

Dratini coiled around his arm and gave a tired, determined chirp.

Gabriel smiled. "Let's show them what we're made of."

But just as he turned to pack up their gear, a sharp voice cut through the air behind him.

"Hey! You again!"

Gabriel didn't even have to turn around to know who it was.

James.

The overly enthusiastic, battle-hungry classmate who never seemed to learn when to quit.

Gabriel groaned. "What is it this time?"

James pointed dramatically. "I challenge you! You beat me last week, but I've trained hard since then. I'm ready!"

Gabriel sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Damn that trainer…"

Dratini let out a low growl, clearly echoing the sentiment.
