Wetton keeps his most loyal people in the City Hall, there are about fifty of them in total.
Bill nodded, he had seen about as much during his first few days on the island, and continued listening.
— …and the rest will not easily fight against the World Government.
The last question Bill asked Henzo concerned his family. He would have hated to arrest Wetton just so his son could become the next mayor. But he was glad when Henzo assured him that wouldn't happen.
After learning that the population hated the Wetton family, they discussed it further before Bill returned Henzo to his home.
He had been warned not to let Wetton use the battle suits, and Bill smiled at the comment as he said,
"With what I've planned, that will be impossible. Tomorrow, Wetton will be in shackles."
Finding a bounty hunter on his ship came as a surprise to Bill.
The man wore a black hat over his yellow overalls and sat on a wooden box, surrounded by four Beetleborgs armed with rivet guns.
"I told your people that I am an ally and that they should not point weapons at each other.
The man spoke with a sly, almost threatening smile, and Bill's gaze shifted from Baskud to the fair-haired girl standing near the main mortar.
MSS Victory was completely refitted: almost all of the ship's conventional armament was removed, replaced by two Royal Guns and a series of mortars.
Since it was the largest ship in his department, Bill never saw a time when either he or one of his lieutenants wasn't in command. And under normal circumstances, conventional guns wouldn't have been of any use if Bill, Rance, or Sasha were in danger.
But what the bounty hunter couldn't know was that he was within sight of Bill's most dangerous "weapon," and that "weapon" took the form of a blonde female cook.
Now, looking at the bounty hunter who was smiling, Bill asked:
- What are you doing here?
"Oh?" Baskud replied, looking puzzled before saying, "Well, I'm here to help you, and then you can help me later!"
Shaking his head at the suggestion, Bill immediately replied:
- Thank you for the offer, but this is a military operation, and we don't need your help at the moment.
Then, turning to the people surrounding the bounty hunter, Bill added:
— Operators, escort our guest back to his boat.
Hearing the order, Bill received the response: "Yes, sir," and "With pleasure." However, when two special operators attempted to grab Baskud's arms, the bounty hunter dodged and rushed toward Bill. Baskud was fast, but before he reached Bill, a figure appeared in his shadow and knocked him to the ground.
Hitting the ground with a "Gah!" sound, Baskud looked up and cursed, "M... Marines! You promised! Liar!"
Seeing Fia pin him to the ground, the hatred on the young man's face, and the realization that he had just "kidnapped" the old man, Bill thought that he himself looked like the villain in this whole situation.
Shaking his head, Bill ordered the bounty hunter to be handcuffed, and when he was raised to his feet, Bill said calmly:
"First of all, I didn't promise you anything. I said I'd consider your proposal, and I still plan to do so once the operation is over. You must understand that involving civilians in official matters is something I don't like."
Bill had no doubt about the man's strength, but Bascud was an unknown variable, and Bill wanted to arrest Wetton without causing casualties.
Then, turning to his special operators, Bill said:
— Put him in the chamber with the sea stone. The one with running water.
Having given this order, Bill looked at Baskud again and added:
"As soon as we're done here, I'll come visit you. You're not under arrest, you're being held for your own safety. Don't cause any trouble."
With an emphasis on the last sentence, Bill watched as the bounty hunter quietly walked away, accompanied by four jailers.
When the group was out of sight, Bill thanked Fia, to which she replied:
- He should be thanking me.
Bill:
- What do you think about him?
Fia thought for a moment, pulling her hair back and adjusting her ponytail, and replied:
"At first he seemed nice to me. He seems to think poorly of himself; I can see he's been through a lot of hardship."
Bill, throwing a strange look at her, asked sarcastically:
- Oh, you were able to understand this in such a short time?
In response to his strange look, she nodded her head slightly and said:
"It's just something you have to live through, Bill. Once it happens... you'll never forget that look."
Now, looking at her with less sarcasm, Bill nodded and said he'd take her word for it. The truth was, despite everything he'd been through in both his lives, Bill knew he was lucky.
He was lucky on Earth to be born at the right time and in the right place; and now he is lucky to be born the son of one of the most powerful men in the world.
But now was not the time to dwell on the past, and so he ordered Fia to gather the key people for the operation for a meeting in his office.
