Chapter 126 - 116

Akshatha attended the Mumbai audition with a strange feeling in her heart.

As she waited for her turn, fragments of her past-life memories began coming back to her

The male lead had been secured relatively early, but the search for the female lead had taken much longer. The production team had spent months auditioning, testing and considering different candidates before finally settling on the right person.

And now she was standing at the beginning of that very same process.

The difference was that this time, she knew what the destination could be.

Her past-life memories gave her an advantage that none of the other candidates could possibly have.

She knew the importance of the role.

She knew that the casting team would not make the decision quickly.

And she knew that simply being called for an audition did not mean she would get the part.

Still, she had something else this time.

Preparation.

Confidence.

And memories of what had happened before.

She walked into the audition room and gave it everything she had.

She did not try to force the role.

She simply performed naturally and allowed the casting team to see what she could bring to the character.

After the audition, she left without showing how much the opportunity meant to her.

She knew better than to become overconfident.

The production team continued their search.

Eventually, they narrowed the candidates down.

Seven girls were selected for serious consideration.

Akshatha was one of them.

Seven candidates.

One role.

And the final decision would take time.

She knew that.

In her previous life, the search had taken months.

This time, however, she was determined to use everything she remembered—not to manipulate the process unfairly, but to make sure she did not lose an opportunity she already knew could change her life.

She would give every audition, every screen test and every meeting her absolute best.

The other six candidates were talented.

They had their own strengths.

They deserved their chance.

But Akshatha had something none of them possessed.

She already knew what this film could become.

And somewhere deep inside, she also knew that if she played her cards carefully, she had a real chance of becoming the one who finally secured the role.

Still, until the production team officially chose her, she considered herself only one of seven.

There was no guarantee.

There was only an opportunity.

And Akshatha intended to fight for it.

After giving that audition, Akshatha returned to the United States.

There was no point in sitting around waiting for an answer. The production team had already made it clear that the casting process would take time, and she had work commitments that she needed to honour.

So she went back to her regular routine.

Whenever the thought of the film crossed her mind, she reminded herself that the production would take some time to make its decision.

She had already done her part.

Now she simply had to wait.

And, just as she had expected, the wait was not short.

About a month and a half later she got the call.

The production team wanted her back for another round of auditions.

Akshatha immediately understood what that meant.

She had made it further into the selection process.

Akshatha immediately understood what that meant.

She had made it further into the selection process.

She travelled back to Mumbai once again.

But this time, the atmosphere was completely different.

Only three girls remained, including herself.

And the male lead had been brought in for the final chemistry tests.

This was no longer simply about whether an actress could perform the role on her own.

The production team needed to see whether the two leads could actually make the audience believe that they belonged in the same story.

Each finalist was given scenes to perform with him.

Some were simple conversations.

Others required more emotional involvement.

The casting team watched everything carefully.

They observed how naturally the two actors looked at each other.

Whether their expressions changed at the right moments.

Whether their dialogue felt like a genuine conversation or simply two people reciting memorised lines.

They watched the pauses between sentences, the small reactions, the comfort level between them and even the way they responded when the other actor changed the rhythm of a scene.

Akshatha understood immediately.

This was not a test she could pass simply by delivering perfect dialogue.

Chemistry could not be manufactured by technique alone.

It had to feel natural.

She walked into the room for her turn and greeted the male lead calmly.

There was no awkwardness in her expression.

No nervous attempt to impress him.

She simply settled into the scene.

The first test was a relatively light conversation between the two characters.

The male lead delivered his line.

Akshatha responded.

Then he slightly changed his expression and delivery from what they had rehearsed.

Instead of sticking rigidly to the prepared rhythm, she reacted naturally.

A small smile appeared on her face.

She paused for half a second before answering.

The male lead picked up on it and adjusted his own timing.

The conversation suddenly felt less like an audition and more like two characters actually talking to each other.

The casting team remained quiet.

But Akshatha noticed that several of them had stopped taking notes.

They were watching.

The second scene was more emotional.

There was tension between the characters, and the scene required them to challenge one another without becoming theatrical.

Akshatha maintained eye contact while delivering her lines.

When the male lead became more intense, she did not immediately match his intensity.

Instead, she allowed a brief silence before responding.

That silence changed the entire mood of the scene.

He reacted to her expression.

She reacted to his.

Their performances began feeding into each other.

That was what the production team had been looking for.

Not simply two talented actors performing well individually.

A connection.

A rhythm.

A sense that one person's performance naturally created the other's response.

The third test was different again.

It was quieter.

The characters had to share a more personal moment, with fewer words and more expression.

This time, Akshatha relied less on dialogue and more on subtle reactions.

A glance.

A hesitation.

A faint change in expression.

The male lead responded naturally.

For a few moments, neither of them spoke.

Yet the scene continued to communicate what the characters were feeling.

When the director finally called cut, Akshatha stepped back.

She did not try to judge the reaction of the people in the room.

She had learned that reading too much into casting-room expressions could create unnecessary expectations.

The same process was repeated with the other two finalists.

Akshatha watched quietly from the side.

Both girls were talented.

One had a very strong emotional performance.

The other had excellent screen presence and confidence.

Akshatha knew that this was not going to be an easy decision for the production team.

But she also noticed something during the tests.

Their timing had become almost effortless.

When one changed pace, the other adjusted.

When one paused, the other did not rush to fill the silence.

When the scene became emotional, neither performance overwhelmed the other.

There was balance.

And that balance was exactly what a lead pair needed.

After all three chemistry tests were completed, the production team asked the finalists to wait outside.

Akshatha sat quietly, trying not to overthink.

For months, she had been moving through this process—first among many candidates, then among seven, and now finally among three.

Only one of them would get the role.

She knew the other two had earned their place there.

She also knew that talent alone would not decide the outcome.

The production team would consider everything—their individual performances, their screen presence, their suitability for the character, their chemistry with the male lead and the overall direction they wanted for the film.
