The location was a decommissioned slaughterhouse on the outskirts of the city. The two entered from above, through the docks where trucks used to unload.
Salin crawled silently across the floor. His breath formed small white clouds in the warehouse's frigid air. Just ahead was Boris.
— Relax, kid — Boris whispered, his voice echoing slightly off the zinc walls. — This suburban trash trembles just hearing the name Goden. We go in, grab the girl, and we're back in time for dinner.
Salin didn't relax. He scanned the shadows with sharp senses. The silence was too heavy. There was no sound of careless footsteps, no whispers.
