Irina stared at him.
For a moment, she genuinely had no idea what to say. Relief surged through her so suddenly that it almost made her dizzy, but the sight of the blood beneath him kept her from relaxing completely.
"Don't move," she instructed, placing a steady hand against his shoulder. "Just stay still for a moment."
Voss seemed to obey, although his gaze had already dropped toward his stomach. His clothing was torn, and the wound that had nearly taken his life remained clearly visible beneath the damaged fabric. He could see the blood staining his clothes and the floor, yet something about the situation felt terribly strange.
He was alive.
That much was obvious.
What he could not understand was why he was not in agony.
