Jinchūriki—a word born from the Sage of Six Paths' legendary battle with the Ten-Tails. The story goes that even the Sage himself couldn't withstand the Ten-Tails' overwhelming chakra, so he split its power into nine separate beasts. As for those nine tailed beasts, he no longer had the strength to seal them away. Instead, he kept them close, guiding them with patience and wisdom. In those days, the tailed beasts were, for all intents and purposes, "free-range."
But even divine creatures aren't immortal. Turtles may live long, serpents may soar, but in the end, all return to dust. Not even the Sage of Six Paths could outrun time. After leaving behind a few final teachings, he departed this world—leaving the nine nearly eternal tailed beasts to wander the land.
Faced with such overwhelming power, humanity could only envy and fear. How could they ever hope to wield it?
That's when the clever ones found a solution—imitating the Sage's sealing technique, they began sealing tailed beasts inside human hosts. After all, a tailed beast is just chakra given form, and sealing jutsu are designed to bind chakra. The logic was sound.
Every village developed their own signature techniques for the job—Konoha's Five Elements Seal and Adamantine Sealing Chains, Cloud's Iron Armor Seal, Stone's Seven Star Seal, and more. The relationship was like locking both jinchūriki and tailed beast in the same prison—the jinchūriki as the warden, the beast as the prisoner. If they got along, they could fight side by side, like Bunpuku and Shukaku, or Yugito and Matatabi. If not, the beast stayed locked away until the warden died—like Mito Uzumaki and Kurama. And when the warden died, the seal broke.
But there was always a flaw in this system. Human life and stamina are finite. Sealing jutsu, at their core, are just chakra-restricting ninjutsu, requiring constant upkeep. If the host's chakra or focus faltered, the seal would weaken. Compared to the tailed beasts' lifespans, a human's decades are a blink. When a jinchūriki died—or in the case of childbirth—the seal would fail. That's why every village treated such moments like a code red.
Orochimaru had studied this problem inside and out—and found a loophole: artificially creating a "weakened state" in the jinchūriki using genjutsu pills.
These drugs didn't just create illusions—they shattered the mind, unleashing the deepest darkness within. The host would spiral into negative emotions, unable to maintain the seal, allowing the tailed beast to break free.
Of course, it depended on the host's mental state. Someone like Blue B, who'd lived in constant terror, was an easy target. But try it on a master like Bunpuku, whose mind was clear and bright, and the pill would barely scratch the surface—he'd probably dispel it with a few verses of scripture.
As for the psychological damage to the host? Orochimaru couldn't care less. Typical—hurt others for his own gain.
Rin's situation mirrored Blue B's. She was young, her inner darkness not so deep, but after being "poisoned," she fought her inner demons for as long as she could. It wasn't until she saw Obito about to be executed by Mist ninja that her emotions exploded, her defenses collapsed, and the tailed beast's seal shattered completely.
Master Genshi didn't know all these details. But he knew one thing: the Three-Tails had to be sealed again, no matter the cost. For that, he unleashed his ultimate move—the Great Mighty Heavenly Dragon.
This dragon wasn't some street tattoo, as Aming had joked, but a profound sealing formula. Years ago, the First Mizukage Byakuren had painstakingly carved it into Genshi's skin, a safeguard for emergencies.
But activating the "Great Mighty Heavenly Dragon" Azure Kang Seal burned through massive chakra. Genshi was old, his body failing. Using this technique meant staking half his life.
Genshi clenched his teeth, hands forming the unique seals. The blue dragon on his back let out a piercing roar, then shot straight into the Three-Tails' massive body. The beast wailed like a foghorn, crashed to the ground, and lay motionless.
A ghostly glow began to radiate from its body. The blue dragon danced across its shell, and the Three-Tails' form shrank, collapsed, and finally contracted into the unconscious figure of a young girl—the jinchūriki, Rin.
"Rin!" Kakashi shouted, ready to rush forward, but Koharu Utatane held him back with iron resolve.
"Wait!" she commanded, her voice cold and steady.
"But—"
"I said wait!"
When the sealing was done, Master Genshi collapsed with a thunderous crash. His towering physique deflated like a burst balloon, aging visibly until he was once again a hunched, frail old man—older than ever.
"Master Genshi!" Aming cried, throwing herself at his side. Half his body hung limp, half his face twisted, mouth slanted and eyes unfocused.
Genshi's throat worked as he struggled to speak:
"Aming… looks like… I've had… a second stroke… I'm done for… don't worry about me… save Rin…"
Aming, who had served Genshi for years, understood instantly. She wiped her tears, nodded, and dashed to Rin's side, channeling chakra into the girl's chest.
"Fugaku, Kakashi—get ready!" Koharu barked.
After a tense moment, Aming withdrew her hands and let out a long breath. Rin's face regained a hint of color—her life was no longer in danger.
"Move!" Koharu Utatane burst out of the trees like an arrow, Fugaku, Kakashi, and Inoichi Yamanaka right behind her.
No one expected the Konoha shinobi—supposedly dead in the fortress—to appear now. The Mist ninja were completely unprepared.
The ten or so Mist ninja left to contain the Three-Tails scrambled to intercept the four Konoha shinobi.
"Fire Release: Fire Blade Technique!" Koharu's blade erupted in flames, a torrent of fire stretching several feet long. She swung, cleaving the nearest Mist ninja clean in two.
"Block me and die!" Koharu snarled, blood splattering across her face—like a demon risen straight from hell.
