Chapter 236: Preparations for the Worst-Case Scenario
Bolton Lands, Underground Base
POV of Domeric Bolton
A month later.
Domeric sat in the magical library in his underground base and stared at the various designs of a bowl-like apparatus in front of him with a frown.
Ygritte peered over at the designs with confusion. "Why did you bring me here, Domeric?" she asked as she turned and looked at the room that she had only visited once before when he performed the Body Enhancement ritual on her and his three subordinates.
He pointed at the designs of the bowls and asked, "Can you guess what those are?"
Ygritte peered at the diagrams, which were filled with magical equations that she could not understand without at least a decade of study in runes and enchantments.
"Some kind of magical bowl." She guessed, and he smiled before saying. "Did I ever tell you about a thing known as a pensieve?"
She scrunched up her brow and tried to remember his talks with her about her past. "I think you did mention something like that once or twice. But I forgot what it was."
"A pensieve is a magical device which can be used to see someone's memories of the past." He then pointed at a different shelf in the room.
This shelf was unique because, instead of books, it was filled with thousands of glass vials containing glowing strands.
The shelf was divided into different sections, labeled Year 1, Year 2, and so on, up to Year 7. After that, it had additional shelves named Higher Runes Study, Higher Enchantment Study, Dark Arts, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Rituals, and a few others.
"These…" He said, pointing at the thousands of vials, "…are the copies of my memories. And this…" he said as he took out an emerald color pendant. "This is a portkey that would bring you from anywhere in the whole North to this place, along with half a dozen people. It's a multiple-time-use portkey and can be used to bring you out of this place as well, with a different password."
"Why are you telling me all these things?" Ygritte asked with a frown.
He smiled and kissed her on the forehead. "This is just me preparing for the worst-case scenario." He said, "I know that I'm a rather powerful wizard, especially in this world. But I am well aware of my own mortality. And in case I ever fall in the battle, then I want my legacy to live on."
"This room and all the other rooms beside it. It will be my legacy to my children. If I fall, then you must bring our children here. Tell them about their heritage. About my truth. I've yet to succeed in creating a Pensieve. But once I do, I'll teach you how to use it, and you must teach it to our children. With it, they'll be able to use my memories to learn all the magic I know."
"You're not planning on doing something foolish, are you?" Ygritte asked, looking concerned.
"No. Just preparing for the worst-case scenario." He said before he pointed at a magical trunk at the corner of the wall.
"In case the Wall falls, I die and the White Walkers take over the whole of Westeros, that trunk has enough supplies to feed a dozen people for a quarter century. It also holds the magical books and other supplies needed for the education of our children."
"I've also planted weirwood trees inside and turned them into Heart Trees so that even if the White Walkers cut down the Heart Trees on the surface, the Heart Trees inside will continue to generate the magic required to run this place." He said, "I'll also cover this place with a Fidelius Charm so that only those whom I tell about this place will ever be able to find it."
"In that case, please raise our children well and ensure they become good wizards or witches. Inform them that the most effective way to utilize their powers is to protect those they love. If they use their powers for evil purposes or to suppress others and gain a position above them, this will only bring them a life of misery. Please tell them this as advice from their father."
Ygritte nodded resolutely before she moved forward and pulled him in an embrace.
"I understand," she said, "But make sure to take care of yourself. I would rather have you be there for our children and teach them how to use magic than have them learn from your memories. And you know that I can't live without you anymore, right?"
He held her tightly to himself and nodded his head, "I will. I'll not be reckless like the last time. I'll be more careful this time. And I also can't live without you, Ygritte. That's why I'll do whatever it takes to get back to you, safe and sound. Always. "
She nodded and separated from him.
They stared at each other for a long moment before he picked her up, pulled her in for a kiss, and then sat her down at a table.
She quickly started to remove his shirt while he pulled down her breeches.
He could have used magic to remove their clothes, but doing it on their own made the task more pleasurable.
While magic made many things easier, the pleasure of some things lay in their difficulty. So Domeric would occasionally set aside his magic and focus on his journey and its challenges. And in this case, the clothes.
He removed her shirt and kissed her nipples from above her bra before he unhooked it and threw it away, and her took her breast in his mouth once again.
She removed his pants and started stroking his cock as he moved upward and gently bit her neck.
Then the vibration in his magical mirror brought them both out of their pleasurable haze.
He looked at her and sighed before he picked up the mirror and found Lyra calling him once again.
