WILOW-Ch.341: Conquering the City
Astapor City, Slaver's Bay
POV of Domeric Bolton
A few hours later.
Blood flowed on the streets of Astapor as Domeric ordered two-thirds of the Unsullied to take the city while Muron led the other one-third of the Unsullied, as well as his men, to take the various ships on the dock.
It all began when the Good Masters accepted Domeric's offer, gathered 13,000 Unsullied, and handed him the whip, a symbol of their mastery, in front of them.
"Dovaogēdys! Naejot memēbātās!
"Unsullied! Forward march!"
"Kelītīs!"
"Halt!"
Domeric first tested whether the power of the whip in his hand was truly acceptable.
All the Good Masters were surprised that he could speak Valyrian. Kraznys, unable to hide his astonishment, stepped forward and asked him.
"Ydra ji Valyre?"
"You speak Valyrian?"
Domeric turned his head slightly back in response and grinned at Kraznys.
Then, turning back to Unsullied, he gave his new order.
"Dovaogēdys!"
"Unsullied!"
"Āeksia ossēnātās, menti ossēnātās, qilōni pilos lue vale tolvie ossēnātās, yn riñe dōre ōdrikātās."
"Slay the masters, slay the soldiers, slay every man who holds a whip, but harm no child."
"Urnet luo buzdaro tolvio belma pryjātās!"
"Strike the chains off every slave you see!"
Then chaos ensued.
The Unsullied, now under Domeric's command, began killing the Good Masters around them.
Meanwhile, Kraznys and the other Good Masters were telling the Unsullied that they were their true masters and ordering them to kill Domeric, but no Unsullied listened.
After all, the Unsullied were trained to obey whoever held the whip.
He gave the order with a hand gesture to Muron, and Muron, with the two men he brought with him, began killing the Good Masters one by one.
Frankly, he would have liked to kill Kraznys with dragon fire, as Daenerys had done, but he didn't want the existence of Kilgharrah to be known to outsiders yet.
And now, a few hours after he gave his orders, the streets of Astapor had turned red, but it seemed that taking complete control of the city would take some more time.
"You don't need to fear me." He told Missandei, who was looking at the dead body of her "good" slave master, in incomprehension. "I will not hurt you. Or anyone else innocent in this city."
The girl looked up at him, and he could see some fear in her eyes.
He subtly cast a calming charm on her to prevent her from panicking and offered her his hand.
After some hesitation, she took it, and he helped her up. "What is your name?" he asked.
Domeric knew her name from the information he had gathered from the destiny line of this world, but they had never officially met.
"This one's name is Missandei…" She said, "…slave of Good Master Kraz…" then she looked at the dead body of her master and paused.
"Good Master…" he scoffed, "…That always cracks me up. But whatever. This man is dead now. Along with all his other slaver friends. Which means you're free. At least until I leave and someone else comes back to fill the power gap in this city."
The girl remained silent, so he continued.
"Would you like to work for me?" he asked the girl.
Frankly, Domeric knew Missandei had no other choice. She might speak 19 languages and possess a sharp intellect, but she was also a beautiful woman with no means of protecting herself.
And if she wasn't under someone else's protection, she could more or less guess what might happen to her in this now even more chaotic city.
He already knew the Common tongue, the Old Tongue, High Valyrian, and Low Valyrian, which allowed him to communicate in the whole of Westeros and a large part of Essos.
After all, people in Westeros only used the common tongue.
But he could learn a few new languages from her, after all, if he wanted to travel to different parts of the world and learn about various kinds of magic, learning new languages would be a good idea.
Especially for reading tomes and inscriptions from other ancient civilizations, such as the Valyrian Dynasty.
The girl didn't say anything, so he continued, "I'll offer you my protection. Give you a fair wage and a home to live in. What do you say, Missandei?"
The girl looked at the carnage around her and then at him. She gave a timid nod.
"Wonderful." He said with a small smile.
---------------
It took a whole day for the Unsullied to subjugate the city and kill off all the Good Masters.
More than a few of the Good Masters had Unsullied of their own, which would clash against his Unsullied.
Whenever such a thing happened, he would put the Good Master under an Imperious Curse and had him stop the fight.
Then he would take those Unsullied and kill the Good Master.
This way, the casualties in his new army decreased to an almost negligible amount, and by the end of the day, he had gained 2,000 more Unsullied.
Halfway through the day, Muron informed him that a few of the ships managed to escape, but most of them were captured.
After that, Muron and his men went about looting the mansions of the Good Masters.
By the end of the day, he gained an army of 15,000 Unsullied, about 1.8 million gold coins, 5.3 million silver coins, 2 million gold coins worth of treasure, and 80 more ships.
All in all, this was one of the most productive days of his life.
And the city was still filled with a large population. Most of them were slaves who only knew how to do menial work, but many of them were decent workers and craftsmen. Not to mention beautiful women.
He and Muron spent the next day separating those who wanted to come with him to his lands from those who did not.
Domeric told them that if they came to his lands, they would no longer be slaves; he would provide them with shelter and food until they could stand on their own feet.
He also said he would pay them fair wages for their work and warned that if they stayed, Wise Masters and Great Masters from other cities would likely come to capture them and enslave them again.
But despite his warnings, only about two-thirds of the slaves accepted his offer. Domeric had no intention of forcing those who refused.
He knew that some did not trust him and wanted to try their luck on their own. Others planned to plunder the city after Domeric left, collect what was left behind, and even seize control of the city.
Domeric had no problem with their plans. He had no intention of holding Astapor in his rule after all.
By the end of the fourth day since his arrival in Astapor, he had 15,000 Unsullied and 90,000 people, a third of whom were skilled workers.
Now he only needed to figure out a way to transport these people to his lands.
