Chapter 15 - Panzergrenadier

"Bang!"

The marksmen hit the enemies accurately.

It did stop the Germans from charging rapidly, but it didn't stop them from advancing.

Whenever they fire, almost immediately, the suppressive fire from the half-tracks' machine guns will be directed at them.

Or even worse, the cannon from the panzer.

Gromov looks at it, feels hurried.

The mortar is still far away from the commander. He doesn't even know how long it will take for the small probability to hit the commander.

Fine, he's not gonna wait until they hit the commander.

"Just fire at this coordinate, don't save the ammunition."

"Tell those at the front, they do not need to stay there for a long time. They are allowed to retreat to an inner area."

Gromov does not expect to stop the Germans from entering the town either. There is a reason he ordered the construction of the tunnel.

"Turn themselves into the tunnel, use the tunnel to create a surprise attack on the enemies."

"Do not create unnecessary sacrifice."

When the German infantry distance from the first house are only left with 100 meters, those who remained in the half-tracks also dismounted from them.

They first loaded blank cartridges into their rifles, then attached muzzle attachments specifically designed for rifle grenades and the grenades themselves.

"Biu!"

A muffled gunshot rang out, and the grenade mounted on the muzzle was immediately launched.

Boom!

Most of it has successfully shot into the houses.

Many Soviet soldiers did not expect the explosion. Most of them did not even know the existence of this type of weapon.

"Fall back!"

Does not know who shouted, soldiers just assume it was the order from the higher order, and start running back.

"Hahaha! Weak! Only one round of shooting and all of them start running."

Carl, watching this in his tank, laughed.

He then changed his radio channel to the half-tacks and the infantry commander.

"You guys better do it quickly, you don't want to lose the chance and glory of raising our banner above Kyiv."

And he received the reply.

"One hour, Carl."

Half-tracks' commander replies.

"Half an hour."

The infantry commander also replies.

"Hahaha!"

Listened to their reply, Carl laughed even harder.

"Alright, let's have a bet. Let's see who takes down the town in a shorter time. The loser does not get the lunch."

"Agreed!" They both answered in unison.

Things also developed as they thought.

After entering the town, they encounter no strong resistance.

However, what they don't know is. They are entering a trap that was prepared for them.

Boom!

One German who just opened the door of houses has triggered an explosion.

"Beware of trip mines. Don't touch anything suspicious."

Because of the order, the entrance and exit of the tunnel are not spotted by them.

Brusiliv can be divided into a few sectors, each of which is divided by a 'Y' shape road.

One entrance from the north, and exits to the south and north again.

And a small river divided the town into the east and west parts.

Gromov has ordered, everyone in the West does not need to do strong resistance.

They can turn themselves into the tunnel immediately after losing contact with the enemies.

Undeterred by the lack of resistance, the German army advanced rapidly, causing their infantry to become separated from their half-track vehicles.

"Carl, there is something wrong. There were the enemy's mortars shooting at us just now. It should be a battalion here. But from the number of enemies we met, it was far from a battalion."

The infantry commander reports to Carl.

"Nothing to worry, it is normal, isn't it. Most of their troops have already suffered heavy casualties, I heard from the prisoner. Some of their battalion have only one company of personnel remaining."

Carl answered nonchalantly.

Despite the infantry commander still being suspicious, he still accepted Carl's explanation.

But soon, the last suspicion in his mind has disappeared.

His company took down the whole west town in less than half an hour.

However, when they are crossing the river, they suffer heavy casualties.

Dense bullets have been fired at them. The first batch of soldiers that crossed the river had no cover, and all died.

The Panzergrenadiers immediately fired one grenade after another at those houses that were resisting.

Whenever they see the explosion and though the threat has been clear, bullets from those houses shot at them again.

"Report, we have encountered heavy resistance in the eastern town. Requesting half-tracks reinforcement."

"Roger that, we are coming."

Meanwhile, the mortar team has stopped fire, either the Germans or the Soviets.

Gromov has returned to his KV.

Through his RTS view, he can see that most of the Germans have already entered the town, including the panzer battalion and half-tracks.

"Hold your fire until the enemy half-tracks enter your sight."

He informed his crew. Then pick up his telephone, tell the same thing to the infantry outside and let them inform Bodanov as well.

That is the best way when you don't have a radio on the tank.

A few minutes later, the first half-track appeared in the tank sight.

"Fire!"

The 45 mm shell penetrated the half-track without any difficulties.

"Enemies tank!"

"Request for the Panzer backup."

Receiving the request, Carl immediately gives his order to his company, which has already entered the town and station on the street.

"First platoon, move."

The street was narrow. It would still be useless even if they had the numerous advantages of a tank.

Meanwhile, outside of Brusiliv.

In the small villages where the Germans set their mortar and stop their trucks.

An eye was looking in the Brusiliv through the skylight of the basement.

"Commander, how is the situation?" One of the soldiers asked.

"Shhh! Soldier, remember the order." An NKVD soldier stopped him in a low but undeniable voice.

Alexee turned around from the skylight, only shaking his head.

There is a platoon here, with an additional 10 NKVD soldiers.

The existence of the NKVD soldiers was simple. Prevent anyone from deflection, telling the plan to the Germans.
