Mortal city.
It was mid-month, and inside the city, gongs and drums thundered as the crowd carried a palanquin toward the temple of the Yin Yang Gods. Inside the palanquin, aside from a boy and girl, there were offerings of livestock and fruits.
Rituals were held at the start, middle, and end of every month.
Each time, a boy and a girl were sacrificed—six people a month, seventy-two people a year.
This was to honor Grandpa Yang and Grandma Yin.
It was not superstition; after the sacrifices, the weather was indeed favorable, and the rain came in due seasons.
The only downside was that human lives were used as offerings. Typically, names were drawn by lot—whoever's family was chosen had no choice but to accept their misfortune.
The common people were pragmatic. Ever since they began worshiping the Yin Yang Lords, there had been no calamities, and, in addition, after each ritual, they felt spiritually refreshed and physically stronger.
