Adessa Julie Finn
Far from the regular bustling noise of the village community sat one of the two still existing oldest houses in the settlement, stretching back to the time of the old settlers of Maya Village. Most of those settlers were no longer in this world. But a part of their memory remained in the surviving structures. This particular house had changed considerably with time — its occupants had grown in number and its walls had expanded to match. It was the Finn household. And here lived one of those whose blood connected directly back to that founding time.
Baby Adessa Julie Finn was a growing child of the community, and one who, just like her father, had been blessed with powers that defied any easy and logical explanation. Her first birthday was approaching fast and in two days time would arrive.
But she had no idea what that meant. As she was still one year old.
What she did have was a particular attentiveness that went beyond what most people expected from a baby her age. She watched things. She processed. She communicated in her own way with the people around her, not with words yet but with expressions and sounds and a level of social awareness that made people pay attention. She just didn't understand why everyone around her was so busy and excited.
Whatever she had been doing that morning had clearly worn her out because she was now sound asleep in her wooden crib while the household moved around her in a state of organized chaos.
They were preparing for her birthday. That was also part of why August and the diplomatic delegation had pushed their visit to the Xavior Bloc to the end of next month. The child's birthday came first as August's priority.
Both of her parents were well known throughout every stretch of the community. They were regularly seen in the streets, at work, and giving help to people who needed it. The community had taken to calling them saints, which was a nickname that had stuck over time simply because of how they treated everyone around them. August had his own other nicknames too, ones that spoke more to the other side of who he was. But the saint label was attached to both of them and nobody disputed it.
Adessa of course had her own nickname. The Ice Princess.
Why? Because she was cold to people she didn't know. And even to people she did know she would sometimes just look at them and make a sound that those around her described as "hmmpff" — a short unimpressed exhale that communicated exactly what she thought of being approached. Because of that the community had concluded that she had a cold attitude.
If she could have explained herself, she probably would have said something closer to: leave me alone, I'm fine with just watching you.
But the nickname had settled and nobody was bothered by it, in fact some were fans of her. Still everyone was happy to see a new child of Maya Village. Children here represented something particular — the hope of a future that many of the adults hadn't dared to expect before finding this place. A place with peace even when it was surrounded by danger. A place where life was free from what had fallen on so many of them before they arrived.
On other aspects August had also made a promise to the village for the day. Food and ale for everyone in the village taverns, all day. It was his way of including the community so that they had a reason to also celebrate beyond just the Finn household.

The First Birthday
The 25th day of the 4th month of Year 6859 arrived.
Adessa was being dressed by her parents in a beautifully commissioned dress, made by Bonny and Su's Tailoring House with embroidery work done by Mitch-Maya's Embroidery. The result was something that made everyone who saw her stop and say something wonderful about it.
"Happy Birthday Adessa! So cute! What a beautiful baby you are! You look just like a princess with that dress!"
That kind of thing, from most people she encountered, echoing wherever she went. Adessa received it with her customary expression of mild indifference and watchful attention.
Before the party itself could begin there was the portrait painting. The family of three dressed for the occasion and sat for a painter who had recently come to the village and was among the new residents working through their vetting process. Her name was Curtie Smeeth. She had done portrait work in a town somewhere to the south before circumstances brought her here. She had overheard in passing that the Finn household was looking for someone who could do this kind of work and presented herself for the commission.
Curtie would in time become known in the village for this specifically. She would eventually leave whatever other work she had taken up and return to painting and portraits as her primary occupation. Though it was Commission-based, working as a freelancer, she was also charging twice the daily wages of a permanent resident as a base rate for each painting with the price scaling up from there depending on the size and complexity of the piece. She figured it would be good for her in the long run.
The portrait session that morning had August and Angeline on either side of Adessa, who sat on their shared lap looking at the painter with the particular attentive seriousness she brought to most new things. The parents looked at each other and at her with the kind of expression that didn't need description.
After the morning session they changed into comfortable clothing and opened the household to their guests. The celebration ran well throughout the day and it lasted into the night.
---
The Gifts
The first one to present her gift was Angeline; she gave Adessa a hair pin. Custom made by a villager who had the crafting skill for it. A beautiful piece that was designed specifically for Adessa's face, upon being shown it and having it placed on her, she responded with a genuine giggle — which from the Ice Princess counted as high praise. This also made Angeline glad that her lovely daughter likes it.
August's gift was different. He was practical in most things and his gifts followed that pattern. But for this one he had gone to someone he trusted completely with anything that required skill and care. Admin Magnus, the entity who had been involved in building August's equipment since the beginning, who had been there through every step of August's second life in this world even before August had fully understood what that life was going to become. He commissioned Magnus for this.
The result was the Starforged Aetherloom. A pendant built around five gems sourced from deep within Mount Apomayon by the dwarven clans, each carrying properties that corresponded to one of Adessa's five elemental affinities. August had them masterfully cut and set together in a circular formation.
---
The Starforged Aetherloom
Artifact Rank: Divine Heirloom (Dormant)
Artifact Type: Pendant
Creator: A Celestial Artisan whose true name has long been forgotten by history. Ancient records remember only that they were a benevolent being who wandered the endless cosmos, serving as both guide and cherished friend to August Finn. Their true identity has since been erased by the passage of time, leaving only the masterpiece they entrusted to the mortal world.
(Admin Magnus: Hehehe a masterful piece needs it's own mysterious background)
---
Fashioned from Starforged Aetherium — a celestial metal tempered within the light of newborn stars — the Starforged Aetherloom is a one-of-a-kind heirloom unlike any other. Set within its elegant circular frame are five Primordial Resonance Stones, each painstakingly mined by the dwarven clans of Apomayon, whose halls lie deep beneath the sacred mountain overlooking the Village of Maya.
Though each gemstone embodies one of the five primordial elements, none are ordinary minerals. They are living mana crystals born where the world's ley lines converge with the echoes of the heavens.
On the first birthday of his daughter Adessa Finn, August Finn presented this pendant as both a blessing and a promise — a symbol that no matter how vast the world became or how difficult the road ahead might be, she would forever carry a piece of her father's love close to her heart.
To the people of Maya, it is a priceless family heirloom. To the dwarves of Apomayon, it is the finest masterpiece ever born from their mountain.

+30% Mana Regeneration.
+20% Casting Speed.
+20% Elemental Resistance.
Greatly improves elemental harmony, allowing multiple elemental spells to coexist without interference.
Reduces mana consumption of elemental magic by 25%.
---
Hidden Blessing — Celestial Resonance (Locked)
This blessing remains dormant until the pendant recognizes that its wearer has truly embraced all five elemental paths. Upon awakening, the five Primordial Resonance Stones cease acting as individual crystals and resonate as one, becoming a flawless conduit between the wearer and the world's mana.
The Starforged Aetherloom then reveals its true nature — not merely as a treasured heirloom, but as a celestial legacy entrusted from the heavens to a father's beloved daughter, destined to illuminate generations yet to come.
---
With that the birthday wrapped up. With Adessa, wearing the things her parents had given her, a hair pin and a pendant both, went through the rest of the celebration in her customary manner of watching everything closely and reacting to it in her own way. The household and their guests stayed well into the night. With the taverns across the village had August's food and ale running all day as promised.

The Proposed Route
After a few days of rest the good times came to pass and August returned to work.
The diplomatic mission to the Xavior Bloc needed a formal plan. As the mission's chief security officer and the person responsible for getting Chief Red there and back safely, August took the lead on the route assessment with input from the relevant department heads.
What they produced was the following.

---
Section III — Route Options
Two routes were assessed.
Route A — Full Overland (Not Recommended)
| Leg | Path | Distance | Est. Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maya Village → forest interior (150 km) → detour curve north (50 km) → corridor junction | ~200 km | ~4 days |
| 2 | Junction → south along the forest-oath corridor toward Arwen's border | ~3,600 km | ~51 days |
| 3 | Arwen border → through active war zone → Xavior Bloc defensive line near the Great Central-Western River | ~500 km | ~10 days |
| — | Delays, detours, checkpoints, emergencies | — | ~10 days |
| Total Outbound | | ~5,300 km | ~75 days |
Diplomatic stay: ~14 days. Return: ~75 days. Full mission duration: ~164 days (~5.8 months)
In favour: No dependency on river access. Full wagon capacity throughout. Field testing opportunity for Wagon 6.
Against: Over five months of total mission time. Requires crossing Arwen's entire active war zone. Arrival at the land-facing side of the Xavior Bloc's Spiked Tortoise Defense. No operational discretion — a wagon convoy this size is visible to every faction on the route. Road conditions through war-damaged territory are unconfirmed.
Verdict: Not recommended. Viable only as a fallback if river passage cannot be secured.
---
Route B — Land to Kirka, Then River South (Recommended)
| Leg | Mode | Path | Distance | Est. Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Overland | Maya Village → forest interior/detour/junction → Kirka Village Docks | ~800 km | ~11 days |
| 2 | River Vessel | Kirka Docks → south through Ogind | ~2,500 km | ~10 days |
| 3 | River Vessel | Ogind south → Arwen river corridor → Xavior Bloc river anchor | ~300 km | ~2 days |
| — | — | Border clearance, river inspections, delays | — | ~2–3 days |
| Total Outbound | | | ~3,600 km | ~26 days |
Diplomatic stay: ~14 days. Return: ~26 days. Full mission duration: ~66 days (~2 months and 10 days)
In favour: Roughly three times faster than Route A. Reduces total mission time from ~5.8 months to ~2 months and 10 days. The Xavior Bloc holds its position on the river — they already monitor and control river traffic through their territory, making this their known and managed point of contact. Count Zain has already expressed direct interest in Maya Village through his own envoy — a coordinated river approach is far more likely to be recognized and welcomed. Bypasses the most dangerous stretch of Arwen's interior entirely. A delegation traveling by river vessel is markedly less conspicuous than a large wagon convoy through contested territory.
Against: River access requires merchant guild arrangement or imperial coordination. Wagon 6 must be left at Kirka for the river portion. Subject to possible river inspection from remaining hostile operations in the Arwen corridor. Return requires retracing to Kirka to retrieve Wagon 6.
Verdict: Recommended.

Section IV — Comparative Summary
| Factor | Route A (Full Overland) | Route B (Land + River) |
|---|---|---|
| One-way distance | ~5,300 km | ~3,600 km |
| Travel time (one-way) | ~75 days | ~26 days |
| Full mission duration | ~164 days (~5.8 months) | ~66 days (~2 months and 10 days) |
| Arwen exposure | Full crossing required | Bypassed via river |
| Approach to Xavior Bloc | Land-facing defensive perimeter | River — known, managed access |
| Operational discretion | Low | High |
| Leadership gap | ~5.8 months | ~2 months and 10 days |
| Recommendation | Not recommended | Recommended |

Section V — Diplomatic Stay Plan (14 days)
| Day | Activity |
|---|---|
| 1 | Arrival and formal reception; presentation of credentials and letter of introduction from the Elder Council |
| 2 | Rest and orientation; security assessment by Talon escort |
| 3–4 | Preliminary meetings with Count Zain Xavior's staff; agenda-setting |
| 5–7 | Core diplomatic sessions; Maya Village's position and proposals formally presented |
| 8–9 | Count Zain's response period; delegation available for counter-proposals |
| 10–11 | Working sessions on specific agreements, trade routes, mutual recognition |
| 12 | Draft agreement review |
| 13 | Formal closing session |
| 14 | Departure preparation and farewell protocols |
Additional days may be added at Chief Red's discretion depending on negotiation progress.
---
Section VI — Risk Notes and Pre-Departure Requirements
1. Chief Red's absence of approximately two months requires the Elder Council to assume collective executive authority with a designated spokesperson named prior to departure.
2. River passage requires advance arrangement with a merchant guild or coordination through the imperial peacekeeping force at Maya Village. The latter is strongly preferred. Hopefully Baron Kirka's introduction would be sufficient.
3. A communication should be sent ahead through imperial channels notifying the Xavior Bloc of the delegation's intent and approximate arrival window before departure.
4. Secure storage for Wagon 6 at Kirka's wagon facility, including a small custodial guard, should be confirmed with Kirka Village's Chief Rommel before departure.
---
A message had already been sent to Baron Kirka several weeks prior regarding the possibility of hiring one of his merchant vessels for the river transit. A reply was expected next month. Departure was set for close to the end of Month V. They would be away from the village during the first months of summer and expected to return around the end of summer or the first weeks of fall.
Most of the journey would be spent traveling.

Communicating with the Bees
On another part of the forest, Terrence and his escorts had continued their observation of the Mossback Honeybee colony.
By this point the bees had fully registered the humans' presence and had concluded they were not a threat. Workers hovered nearby during observation sessions without aggression. The colony went about its activity without meaningful disturbance from the group watching it. Terrence kept his notes and his distance and waited for an activity from the bees to occur.
Then came the breakthrough.
The queen broke protocol and made direct contact.
It was telepathic, exactly as Terrence's theory had suggested it could be. The first thing that happened was quite the surprise — he had been sitting quietly with his notebook when the communication landed and his immediate reaction was to go on guard, which caused every escort around him to snap into a defensive formation before he had time to explain.
He held up a hand to stop them.
"Okay everybody, stand down. I have some good news."
He took a moment to compose himself before explaining.
"I was surprised — the queen of the colony made contact. Telepathically. She asked me what we are doing here. I answered her. I told her we are researching and documenting the colony and hoping that one day we could coexist with them. I explained how we would go about it in terms she could understand — that it would work like us providing secure homes for them to live in, while we would collect the excess honey they produce each year, not all of it, only what is surplus beyond what the colony needs. Her response was that they produce a lot and she was interested in how this would actually work. So we agreed to test the idea. But before anything else she asked if we could find suitable logs to build their houses. If we could do that she would order some of her offspring to test them. I also proposed that we run the test here in the forest first, not within the village. And she agreed."
The escorts absorbed this.
Terrence said his goodbyes to the colony before the team packed up to head back. As he said it the queen understood through their communication that the humans were leaving and would return later on. She would use the time to prepare her own framework for how the arrangement would proceed.
She had concluded that humans, though somewhat unsophisticated to her perception, clearly had their own leadership structure and operated within their own organized system. That was enough for her to take the proposal seriously.
With that the month ended on a good note.
