In the following week, Jason remained in communication with the base established in Birmingham, disaster planning in Atlanta, and reform plans in Georgia. At the same time, everyone at the base was working.
Since the workload had been immense ever since Jason arrived, a large group was led by Arturo, who worked on the construction of the four enormous buildings, while Arturo and Luca handled everything related to electricity.
At the same time, Abraham and several more elite soldiers had been moving batteries, as well as other equipment, from Georgia to the central base.
On the other hand, Rick and Shane began moving heating equipment by helicopter to the central base.
It was not a very good moment to go outside, but all these people were prepared to bite down and cause a lot of damage.
Then the security personnel on the inner wall were withdrawn, as well as the maintenance staff of the base, so now almost all the personnel had joined the residential building construction project.
Hundreds of people flocked to the construction site. When did Arturo bring so many people? At first, he was overwhelmed by the workload, but Jason simply mentioned one thing and the work stabilized.
Because the dormitory style was similar to the design of a capsule apartment, the special dormitory areas were simple and at the same time optimal. Of course, there were capsules where couples and even families could sleep. However, for people without partners, the best option was to sleep comfortably in a capsule.
In terms of design, Jason's suggestion was followed, and a single-layer bed was uniformly built with a length and width of two meters. It wasn't that bunk beds were a bad option, but capsules had protective and isolation functions.
That's right—when it comes to this, many people should understand that it is much safer to sleep in a capsule where one will have small but necessary things like a mini refrigerator, a television that can play DVD movies, and many other things that provide the necessary entertainment to a person.
When Jason showed this design to the people in charge, they all agreed since the capsules were incredibly optimal. Even if only one person slept in that place, a couple of two could easily fit. Of course, the more couples living in the central base, the more people could sleep in that place.
…
Meeting room.
"We need the most modern things we can get, but we also need rudimentary things to ensure survival without relying on electricity. This is a smoke duct, and there is a mechanical area where, if there is no gas, each building can use firewood."
Seeing everyone's confused expressions, Jason didn't explain too much and simply told everyone not to overlook it; this would be extremely useful in the future.
People also began doing things this way without really understanding it.
The buildings constructed in total needed to have the capacity for at least forty thousand capsule dormitories; with this, at least fifty thousand people could live comfortably in this place.
These dormitory capsules were a bit larger than those in airports where people usually sleep, but they had many other features considering security.
With this person capacity, it was expected that in the future, the middle and central zones alone would have the capacity for at least fifty to sixty thousand people.
But there was no need for so many rooms at the moment; as long as one building was constructed, it could easily accommodate the current people at the base. However, the first thing that had to be done was to work on the underground ducts so that they were connected.
The area where the prison had originally been located would also be refurbished; the warehouse and the innermost garage would be relocated, and the largest area would be transformed into a fortress where research would take place and would serve as the operations center of the organization. But it would also be a place where people could live. Jason imagined that at least ten thousand people could easily sleep in the central zone with all the structures built.
Although everyone doubted Jason's transformation plan, they all followed his orders, and construction proceeded as planned.
"Don't worry, we will never live in small, narrow rooms all the time in the future. Once this place is built, you will be able to apply to live in a city, but you will need to have an appropriate job in that place. Thousands of people work in hundreds of different things, training, creating, and of course inventing."
Jason said something that really caught everyone's interest; many had seen the city of Atlanta taken by the organization and thought that living there would be less suffocating. However, they also understood that it was less safe.
…
The days passed in such a hectic time, and in the blink of an eye, the day of the first general assembly of the central base had arrived.
That morning, all members of the base left their work and approached the large plaza of the base.
With the increased numbers, a little more than five thousand people sat in front of the tall platform that had been built. Today they would not only learn what would happen in the future, but also the purpose of the buildings and other things would be announced.
For this event, Elias had come to see how far this place had grown, and since he arrived, he had done nothing but be surprised.
"Listen, today is the first general meeting created in this place. I don't want to give speeches that take even more of your time, so I will be brief."
"The main objective of gathering everyone here today is to form a formal governmental organization and choose the person in charge of each department in everyone's minds."
Wow!
There were applause and shouts from the audience; obviously, everyone was eager for this conference.
Seeing the enthusiasm of the survivors in the audience, Jason continued: "Due to the special environment we are currently in, the buildings will be composed of 80% capsules and the overall layout will be limited."
"Once an agreement is reached, formal work offices will be established such as government, education, health, agriculture, planning, military industry, police department, formal army, and many more things will be in your hands."
"These are the departments we have discussed so far. These are already formal in other bases, and now we will implement them here, and we have selected candidates who may be voted on by all of you to become the supervisors of each department."
"Those with outstanding self-awareness may also recommend themselves. There will be a skill evaluation at the end, and then through a vote we will choose the right people."
"What I want to explain to you beforehand is that we will directly appoint staff who have demonstrated their ability as heads of the various departments of the base. Next, I will announce the designation of the existing staff."
As he spoke, he took a paper in front of him, on which the current appointments for various positions at the base were listed.
Rick would now be the chief of police at the central base, Shane as deputy chief of the same department, and thirty command officers under him.
Then Hershel was announced as Minister of Agriculture, the deputy minister was yet to be determined, ten official members under him, and more than 500 teams related solely to agriculture.
The Janners would be the Ministers of Health respectively, with 50 direct subordinates and 100 different groups.
Guillermo was designated as head of the logistics department, with 500 members under his command.
Jason then appointed George as Minister of Education, with 50 military teachers under his command and more than 100 instructors.
Richard was the Minister of Military Industry, as a potential head of armaments, with a technical group of more than 50 people and a team of more than 300 under his command.
Jason was designated commander-in-chief of the entire main organization, with two battalion commanders, five company commanders, a thousand platoon leaders, five thousand squad leaders, and an army of more than twenty thousand fully trained soldiers with a reserve equivalent to all survivors of the S.T.C. organization.
The army had the largest number of people, and it was also the most detailed classification, because there were many right and wrong people, which left ample room for promotion and elimination.
…
"The last thing is the appointment of the main government departments. I want everyone to vote. Everyone cast their votes and chose whoever you choose since we must elect the appropriate manager for each department."
The voting was extremely boring; more than five thousand people voted, and the statistics and other work lasted more than three hours.
When they finished counting, a group of people in the plaza had already fallen asleep, and the rest were also drowsy.
Rick calmly looked at the audience, subtly gestured with his hand under the table, and then whispered a few words to the people around him with his usual expression.
Jason, sitting in the middle, was even more apathetic and also seemed sleepy. After another ten minutes or so, even Rick and the others lay down on the table.
The dozen people who were counting the votes suddenly stopped their movements and looked at the situation in the plaza in unison, all with triumphant smiles on their faces.
At that moment, several figures rose from the crowd in the plaza, and they all pulled out a handful of pistols from behind and slowly walked toward the platform.
The leader took a dagger from the people around him, a wicked smile on his face.
"Let the cleansing begin!"
