Chapter 62 - Chapter 59 – I want a date

My lovely niece asked us to have some cake first, then we went shopping for clothes, then went to the movies. It was past 9 PM when Nathan drove me back to the office before they headed home. I went straight to Aahmes as soon as I got to the lab.

"Knock-knock, is my grumpy Habibi still sulking?" I asked with a grin, carrying a box of his favorite red velvet cake.

"I am not angry," he replied, not even looking up from his microscope.

"Really? Then why were you so violent earlier?" I asked with a pout. "Just how many times did you jab me with your elbow?"

"That is because you kept acting in an inappropriate behavior in front of other people."

"What's inappropriate about what I did?" I placed the cake on his table. "You have always been my Habibi, aren't you?" I placed my chin on his shoulder and lean on his back.

"You're heavy, professor," he complained. I bet his face is as emotionless as his tone of voice.

"What are you peeping at, anyway?" I inquired. "Let me peep at it too."

Aahmes moved to one side. I peeped at the microscope and looked back at Aahmes in amazement!

"Sir Eric, so you were back!"

We both look at Pedro who appeared with a big grin on his face.

"The 4th batch of blood tests for this month just arrived, and guess what?"

"Eureka!" I exclaimed, pulling Aahmes off his seat and giving him a big smack on his cheek! "At last! We have finally detected our first omega catalyst! Have you informed the patient about the news?"

"Yes, Sir, they're coming over tomorrow morning for a checkup." Pedro checked the folder he was holding. "The kid's name is Raynald, and he haven't manifested as an omega yet, and he's at 9 years and 7 months. There are also two kids who have already manifested as alphas, both just turned 10 years old."

"And are the results the same as the result they got from the Secondary Gender Test we took four years ago?" I asked eagerly.

"Yes, Sir, for all three subjects!" Pedro replied as eagerly.

"Bravo! This calls for a celebration!" I cheered.

"Sir, you haven't given a name for the gene you discovered, right?" Pedro went on. "You just labeled it as J618. Why not give it a proper name now to celebrate the moment?"

"Good idea! We need to name it, now that we've proven its existence and significance!"

I looked at Aahmes whose flushed face quickly looked away from me.

I guess he can't get enough of my good charms!

"I shall call it, the Aahric Gene!" I said with a grin. "In favor of my Habibi, and in remembrance of the day he arrived here, 4 years ago!."

Aahmes suddenly looked at me, his eyes wide open.

"Y-you... remembered?" he asked softly.

"Remembered what?"

"N-nothing."

"That's right, Dr. Abdel arrived on March 11th!" pondered Pedro.

"Yup, I even thought he was an imposer, or a spy!" I laughed. "I thought he was out to steal my research!"

"I guess today is your anniversary, then?" Perdo asked with a grin.

"What anniversary? It's just the day he arrived in the company. There's nothing special about that. Right, Habi–"

I was taken aback when I saw Aahmes' face. It was once again, as blank as a brand new ream of bond paper!

"That is right. Who cares about dates," he said before stooping over his microscope once more.

I looked at Pedro in a panic.

He looked alarmed, and gestured at Aahmes with his mouth.

"Ah, look at the time!" he suddenly said, "I guess I need to go home to my hubby and son soon!"

He looked at me again, his eyes bulging.

"Okay, say hi to my godson for me."

I watched him flee, wondering what his problem is, before turning back to Aahmes who had decided to check out the cake I brought. I grin and pull at the ribbon tying his hair.

"That's your favorite red velvet cake, made of sweet beet puree from your favorite cafe!" I told him. "You wanna eat now, or should we check the results once more?"

"...date..."

"Huh?"

I tilt my head and lift the silky hair that fell over half of his face as he stared at the cake in the box.

"I want a date."

"What date?"

His head suddenly turned up to face mine. His cheeks were flushed, his brows frowning, and his lips pouting out like a little kid!

"I want to go on a date!"

"Ha? But it's already past 9, just were do you plan to go?"

"I want to go on a date!" he said again.

I stared at him and sigh, touching his forehead to check his temperature.

"Do you have a fever? You only act this way when you're sick. Is that why you've been moody all day?"

"I'm not sick, and I want to go on a date with you right now," he poked me on the chest. "I don't want to eat my cake here at the office. And I won't go home unless we go on a date!" He stood up, placed his fists on his waist, and glared at me.

He looked so cute! Like a little child having a tantrum! He looks so much more beautiful when he shows emotions, after all, even when he's fuming at me!

"Okay, okay, I get it, let's go on a date!" I try not to laugh. "So, where do you want to go?"

"Anywhere," he replied, "as long as it's a proper date."

I couldn't help but smile and sigh.

"Okay, then, for my Habibi." I took his hand and kissed it. "I will show you a date you will never forget."

Aahmes' face flushed even more.

I picked the box of cake and took his hand. He smiled at me as I led him out of the office – the breathtaking smile he shows only to me.

We made our way to the elevator, down to the parking lot, towards his car where I stood in front and turned around to face him. I touched his face and kiss his ruby lips. I slipped his hair behind his ears when we parted, softly caressing his long ivory nape.

"Habibi..." He stared at me with his languid eyes, his lips slightly parted. "Sorry but, I can't drive, let me tell you where we're going instead."

The smile disappeared from his face.

"Oh." He sighed. "Of course."

He opened the car for me before going to the driver's side, sighing as he got in.

"Just make sure I won't forget this date," he told me, "and that I won't regret it either."
