"Get lost? So that's your answer?" Celia muttered under her breath as she looked at him, her face shifting into something sadder.
"I thought you would listen to all my words, just like I listen to yours. Clearly, I was the only one who thought like that."
She sniffed a little, wiping at her eyes even though Isaac could tell the tears were not real.
He stayed still, watching her without much change in his expression. His heart did not soften at the act. Instead, he reached up to gently pry her arms from around his neck.
But Celia held on tighter, refusing to let go. She pressed closer and spoke again in a soft voice.
"I still haven't forgiven you for dying before me."
Isaac paused for a moment. The memory of that incident still weighed on him, even if he knew she was using it to push him. He felt a pang of guilt despite seeing through her words.
He wondered briefly if he should just accept what she wanted. The thought crossed his mind quickly before he pushed it away.
