The heavy silence of her bedroom offered no refuge from the spiraling chaos in Gia's mind.
She was currently face-down on her mattress, violently smothering her own face with a plush pillow as if trying to asphyxiate the sheer embarrassment out of her system.
"Mmmmmph!"
The muffled groan vibrated against the fabric.
She rolled onto her back, clutching the pillow tightly over her features, kicking her legs against the duvet in a desperate, helpless rhythm.
How could she have been so stupid? How could she have taken a perfectly good, solid, irreplaceable friendship and torched it to the ground in a single, alcohol-fueled lapse of sanity?
She pulled the pillow back just enough to stare up at her ceiling, her chest heaving, cheeks burning hot enough to melt metal.
"I shouldn't have done that," she whispered to the empty room, her voice trembling. "I shouldn't have destroyed everything like that..."
