The first ray of morning light streamed through the curtains, spilling onto the bed. Nicholas Croft turned over and instinctively shielded the sleeping woman with his chest, keeping the sunlight from waking her.
Although his eyes remained closed, his mind was alert. After ending the call with Hannah Hargrave yesterday, he turned to open the bedroom door only to find Sophie Foster standing there, barefoot as if waiting for him.
Her cold gaze fixed on him, making him feel guilty, afraid she might have heard that the call was with Hannah Hargrave. Quickly, he shifted the topic with a smile, "Baby, why are you standing here barefoot? The floor is cold, let me hold you back to bed."
As Nicholas Croft extended his arms, Sophie Foster nervously stepped back, glaring at him with questions, "Whose call was that just now? Was it Hannah Hargrave? How does she know you're back? Have you two been in contact all along?"
