"Don't worry about it. Just tell me, who is she? Did you get her pregnant and now she's blackmailing you?" Julia Zabinski leaned in, looking suspicious.
Nicholas Croft responded helplessly, "Mom, how can your imagination be so wild? Is your son really that kind of person?"
"Why not? If you can even bring a mistress home, what else can't you do?" Julia Zabinski glared at her son disapprovingly, as if Nicholas Croft were a villain who could do no good.
Nicholas Croft lowered his gaze and sighed, as if making a decision. When he looked up again, his handsome face was serious.
"Mom, if I told you I've been married before and that the truth isn't what Hannah Hargrave said, would you believe me?"
"What? You were married?" Julia Zabinski's mouth dropped open in surprise. "How did we not know, your dad and I? To whom? Not Hannah?"
