The others around seemed to notice the anomaly between the two and stopped to watch them. Nemesia felt Brand's gaze and quietly responded, "I once heard people speak of the beauty of the Outer Sea of the Sea of Shining—"
"You, once heard—?"
"Yes." Nemesia nodded, seemingly no longer intending to speak, she took off her cloak and hung it on the back of the chair, turning around to sit with the knight's etiquette.
Brand watched her and did not pursue further—yet he knew in his heart that it was impossible! He had seen such a scene himself, endless blue waves, with sunlight casting patches of white and golden reflections on the sea, where the sky and sea meet, and the white and brown peaks of the Kalanja Mountain Range piercing the clouds.
But those memories now felt like a faded, yellowed old photograph. He vaguely remembered the faces in that picture, and one face was becoming vivid, overlapping with the face of the female knight before him, as if it had been re-colored.
