Chapter 166 - Chapter 164 — The Diary’s New Owner!

October arrived, bringing with it a damp chill that soaked the castle grounds and seeped into the walls of Hogwarts itself.

A wave of colds swept through both staff and students, leaving Madam Pomfrey scrambling to keep up. Her invigorating draughts worked like magic—instant results—but the downside was that anyone who drank it had steam pouring out of their ears for hours afterward.

Astoria had been feeling under the weather recently, and Harry had forced her to take some of the potion.

"Here's how it went—we were in the Gryffindor common room," Harry explained.

"I said, 'Come on, drink it.'"

"She said, 'Nooo, I don't wanna!'"

"I said, 'Drink it, and you'll feel better. Be a good girl.'"

"She said, 'But it's bitter and gross! I don't want it, brother!'"

"So I held her in my arms and fed it to her. She struggled—and that's when you walked in…"

"You have to believe me, Officer, uh, I mean… Miss Officer," Harry said, looking at Hermione as if he were being interrogated.

Hermione narrowed her eyes. "Really? You weren't doing anything… suspicious?"

She pulled Astoria behind her protectively and asked, "Astoria, is what he said true?"

Astoria straightened her rumpled robes with a sweet smile. "Yes, it's true. Other than prying my mouth open and forcing me to drink some weird liquid, he didn't do anything else."

Harry: "⊙▽⊙"

Hermione: "Σ⊙▃⊙川"

"Help!!" Harry yelled, racing around the common room with Hermione hot on his heels.

Adorable Astoria clapped and giggled from the sidelines. "Go Hermione! You're almost there!"

Heavy, bullet-sized raindrops beat relentlessly against the castle's windows for days on end.

The lake had risen, flower beds were a mess of mud, and thanks to Hagrid's magic, the pumpkins in his garden had grown to the size of garden sheds.

Still, the weather did nothing to dampen the students' enthusiasm for Quidditch training. A few days before Halloween, on a stormy Saturday evening, Harry saw Malfoy returning to the Great Hall after practice.

He was soaked to the bone and covered in mud.

"Yo, Malfoy. How's it feel?" Harry greeted him with a grin.

Malfoy's normally perfect hair was plastered to his face, and he glared at Harry with pure hatred. "You're insufferable."

Harry rolled his eyes. "Kicking people while they're down, rubbing salt in the wound—isn't that your specialty?"

Malfoy froze. He's… right. He couldn't even argue.

Lost in thought and forgetting the state he was in, Malfoy stood there dazed. Harry couldn't stand it.

"Scourgify."

A gentle breeze swept over Malfoy, drying him instantly.

"I didn't ask for your help!" Malfoy snapped.

"Who are you calling 'old man,' huh? You brat," Harry replied, pinching Malfoy's cheek with a grin.

"Malfoy, what happened to your face?" Goyle asked during dinner, staring at the red marks.

Malfoy shoveled some food into his mouth and muttered, "I fell during Quidditch practice…"

Sunday.

Light rain misted the air outside.

Harry and Astoria arrived at the Quidditch pitch early in the morning.

Ever since she learned about Quidditch, she had fallen in love with it—probably because she liked the feeling of flying freely through the air. Her favorite class was Flying, and she often came to watch teams practice.

Rain didn't bother her at all—she was still as excited as ever.

Harry cast a series of charms on them: Rain Shield, Wind Shield, and Warmth Charm.

(And don't ask how those spells work—this is the magical world. Logic isn't the main theme.)

Astoria stood in the rain, fascinated as the drops slid off an invisible barrier around her body, like she was glowing.

Harry tried to cast a rain shield for Cho Chang as well, but she refused.

She was training—she couldn't accept unfair advantages like that.

Which was exactly why Harry didn't like Quidditch.

Training was one thing—but training in a storm? That was just masochism.

In the Muggle world, athletes didn't go out of their way to train in awful weather. Football and basketball were played in indoor stadiums—you never saw rain on the pitch.

When Cho mounted her broom and took to the sky, she suddenly noticed the rain had stopped.

But the rain was still falling…

She turned to look—Harry was waving happily from below, and Astoria was mimicking him, waving enthusiastically.

Cho sighed. Thankfully, the rest of the team was flying too high to notice anything unusual.

Even though Harry and Astoria were protected from the rain, Astoria still clung tightly to Harry's arm, seeking even more warmth.

"Brother, isn't Quidditch kinda weird?" Astoria asked, resting her head on Harry's chest.

"Why do you say that?" Harry asked, resting his chin on her head.

"The rule says you can only end the match if the Seeker catches the Golden Snitch. I read there was one game that lasted three months before the Snitch was caught in the desert. Isn't that… a little flawed?"

"Yeah, it's definitely a loophole. Compared to Muggle sports, Quidditch rules are really underdeveloped. But they'll probably improve one day."

"What kind of sports do Muggles have?" Astoria asked, intrigued.

"Oh, loads—ping pong, volleyball, football, javelin, swimming, rowing…"

Astoria gawked. Her expression was like a country girl entering the big city for the first time.

As Harry spoke, he realized how poor the magical world's entertainment scene really was. No movies. No television. No comics. Just Quidditch and wizard chess.

The wizarding world lived in poverty—they needed liberation.

Maybe he could introduce something. Mahjong? Poker? Or something else?

After practice, Cho Chang left in a hurry—trying to avoid her teammates noticing she hadn't gotten wet at all.

Soaked to the bone, her teammates trudged off the field. Meanwhile, Cho remained completely dry. The kind-hearted Cho felt incredibly guilty.

That night, in the Gryffindor boys' dormitory—

Everyone had gone to bed.

Ron quietly got up, turned on a small lamp, and glanced around to make sure the others were asleep.

Then he opened a notebook.

It was his secret.

A few days earlier, he had somehow gotten lost and wandered into an abandoned classroom.

That's where he found the diary.

He had taken it without thinking.

Later, he discovered the diary could talk to him.

It felt like he'd found someone he could really open up to—a friend. He poured out his heart to the soul inside, named Riddle.

His envy and even jealousy toward Harry.

His jealousy of his brother Percy.

His frustration with his broken wand.

His dislike of Professor Lockhart.

His fear of Snape…

A few days ago, Snape made me polish all the silverware in the trophy room… wait a second, why does that sound familiar…

Ron shook his head, feeling fuzzy. His mind had been in a haze lately. He probably had a cold too. He'd have to see Madam Pomfrey for a dose of Invigorating Draught tomorrow.
