The scanner showed three distinct movement signatures leaving the castle through a west-side entrance. Two on foot, one showing energy readings that made the device struggle to accurately record. A third presence.
And beyond them, the unmistakable energy trace of a vehicle. Moving at normal road speed away from the preserve.
"How recent?" Modriana asked.
"Forty minutes. Maybe less."
"Direction?"
"Toward the city center initially. But the trace splits here—" The operative pointed at the scanner's display.
"The vehicle continues toward the District."
Modriana looked at the split trail carefully.
"We follow both trails," she said.
"Kendra, take two and follow the vehicle trace to the Maeridian District. Stay back, observe only, and do not engage in anything until you understand what you're looking at."
"Yes, Captain."
"The rest with me."
