The storm was upon New York in a mere instant. The rolling clouds were not expected that evening; the weather forecasts predicted sunny skies and a bit of clouds, yet now a storm was approaching, how unusual.
The mall was the center of attention for many that evening; it was an oddity and a commodity to watch this sort of news coverage. While the news crews couldn't get in close, they could still give an overview of the situation. It started to rain halfway through. It was light, then it got stronger, smacking and tapping anything it could. The cloudy sky and the obnoxious rain made for a combination equal to that of a movie.
The commander received the news that 280 could not be returned at that time, nor did SHEILD have any plans on giving it over. The commander had a pathetic face while listening to all this; if he had any other face, it would be even more absurd. Since he couldn't do anything about 280, he was racking his noggin for any other solutions.
Then he got some even more news. He was being reassigned from that situation, and instead, SHEILD was taking over. He was glad; he wouldn't have to worry anymore about his reputation and job security.
He didn't hesitate to step off the scene, as for the others that came with him, they didn't have that luck; he was reassigned; they were not. As of that point, they would be under SHEILD's control until everything was resolved.
Natasha and some other agents arrived fast, and they instantly began preparations for something. Natasha, on the other hand, made her way in through the roof like the other agents and made her way to where the hostages were.
"Where is the bomb?" Natasha could hear the agents and followed their voices.
"We don't know, we were only told the bare minimum!" Same response to every other question the agents had asked previously. The agents couldn't get close and risk the big bomb blowing up. Natasha was there but stayed hidden. She stood quietly near a planter and slowly went away, going east. She knows the bomb has to be in the building, and if it's not in the store, it must be somewhere else. She moved east and meticulously searched each store, eventually she came across the locked store, and the bomb was inside.
Thunder struck; it was a thunderstorm that had arrived, the wind had picked up, and the rain was now hitting sideways. The news crews were wearing raincoats, while all the helicopters that were in the sky beforehand were now gone. The gales swept up trash and wiped it on the ground and buildings. Some got caught in light poles, while others were glued to the ground, wet.
Natasha had been given orders to stop the chaos here, but she had also received orders to gather intel on the group. She reported the bomb's location to the other SHEILD agents, but she didn't intend to tell the others. She trusted her skills and training enough that she was confident she could sneak in with the hostages.
She walked back to where the other agents were and loudly proclaimed that the bomb had to be in the big store, as she had checked every other store as much as she could and had not found any bomb. She made sure the captors could hear it so they would be distracted. After her proclamation, the other agents began asking questions while she answered some. She told them she had other things to do and made her exit. She went out of sight, pried open a vent, and climbed in.
[Not this chapter;)]
Slaughter was living up to its name. When the clouds arrived, it made its killing so much easier. The horror of queens had arrived in a small city at the outskirts of NYC. Slaughter had thoroughly painted the city red; bodies and pieces of bodies were scattered about. Windows were broken, and walls were painted with smashed civilians.
When Clint arrived, some of the blood was washed away by the thunderstorm. The scene was a replica of Queens except now it was foggy, stormy, and eerie. Clint didn't want to split up the agents, knowing the danger, but they wouldn't find Slaughter if they didn't. We must remember they have not much knowledge of the monster in the dark. When the agents disappeared into the fog, Clint sped through the city searching for survivors and keeping his ears open for screams and other abnormal sounds.
280 at the moment of the agent's arrival had just finished decapitating a kid and throwing him through a window, which had shattered. The parents had already died, a bit ago; they were nothing more than scattered limbs, like Lego minifigs. 280 moved on fast to the next closest human.
The agents were in a circle, each looking in a different direction. They were twitchy at any sound. 280 didnt discriminate, however, and as soon as it was close enough launched itself at the agent. As soon as the agents saw 280, they uncircled (What?) and started flashing lights. They fired a few shots to call in the other agents and Clint, but stopped firing soon after.
Clint heard the gunshots and pulled off an amazing 90-degree turn, ran full speed to the sounds of the shots. The other agents who had split up also made their way to the shots but were a lot slower for obvious reasons.
280 had been forced to disappear multiple times because of the light, but it always made its way back to the agents. Luckily, the agents were not amateurs and managed to hold it off until the other arrived. Clint was the first to arrive. He pulled out a special arrow made specifically for 280, he nocked it and fired it. The arrow was a replica of what the MTF pulled when trying to capture 280. The arrow burst open and made a boundary of light.
He then launched a building and launched another arrow. This time it was aimed at the end of the boundary. At that moment, the other agents made it, and when they saw the lights were already set in place, they instead turned the way Clint was aiming and ran that way. The arrow launched with a zip, resembling the sound of a zipper.
The arrow landed and exploded, creating a shallow hole.
As for the agents inside the bounds, they had the great pleasure of leading the berserker down to the trap that had been set up. Clint didn't enter the light show; he instead followed outside the light, in case of accidents, he trusted the other agents knew what to do.
[MTF]
Although they had not been involved in the events that had been happening, they were not sitting still. They had been following the bomb that had been purposely left to be taken. They had the mission of following the convoy, seeing where they took the bomb, then following any agent they could.
The bomb being transported is the bomb that is planned to blow up, hopefully forcing SHEILD to act, and also completing the system's requirements. However, that was until an agent spilled the beans.
While the MTF was waiting for the moment of detonation, they caught the chatter of a couple of operatives, and the information they shared was crucial to what they were about to do. For some unknown reasons, the agents who should have been trained in keeping quiet failed at their jobs and openly discussed the escape of 280, albeit they were whispering, but it made no difference.
"I can't believe that shadow thing escaped." They were standing near a building, bored out of their minds, presumably.
"Talk about bad luck, not only did that thing escape, but also a girl with powers." The other one responded with a grin
"I get they told all of us, but isn't that a risk to... idk information leaks?" The one who started the conversation ironically is questioning the risk of information leakage.
"Ehh, at least we have something to talk about, that's interesting." SHIELD will be tearing itself apart trying to figure out how the information leaked, specifically to the people they didn't want that information to get to.
