Chapter 425 - Chapter 425: Trying to run? Did you ask my permission?

Under everyone's astonished gaze, two of the five metal plates slammed into the Shield Charm.

They shattered it as easily as glass.

Slash! Slash!

"Arrrrrrgh!"

Two deep wounds appeared across the wizard's chest, and he screamed as he collapsed to the ground.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

At that moment, the other wizards' spells reached Wade.

However, the remaining three metal plates intercepted them with ease.

Crack!

By the time the others reacted, Wade had already Apparated above another wizard.

This wizard reacted just as quickly.

He clearly understood that Wade's strange magical devices seemed particularly effective against Shield Charms.

So he did not use one.

Whoosh!

Galleons flew from his pocket one after another, transforming into small shields that formed a defensive layer above his head.

This time, he used Transfiguration to create multiple layers of physical protection.

He refused to believe that Wade's metal plates could still cut through his defences.

Moreover, shields this sturdy could block many spells as well.

However, Wade did not use the metal plates to slash at him this time, nor did he cast a spell.

In the blink of an eye, an exquisitely crafted revolver appeared in his hand.

Bang!

"Argh!"

The revolver fired, and the small shields the wizard had Transfigured were pierced by a single shot.

However, those shields were indeed extremely sturdy. Even Wade's modified bullet lost most of its explosive power after breaking through them.

But even greatly weakened, it was still a bullet.

A jet of blood burst from the wizard's chest.

He collapsed and died before he could even scream.

Crack!

Wade Apparated away again.

The other wizards' spells struck nothing, blasting one crater after another into the ground.

In the space of a few breaths, two of the twenty enemy wizards had fallen, while Wade had not lost so much as a strand of hair.

Although the masked wizards still held the advantage in numbers, Wade's combat ability placed them under immense pressure.

Crack!

Wade reappeared, but all they saw was his figure flicker before vanishing again.

"Did he run away?" one wizard finally blurted out.

"No! He didn't flee! He used a Disillusionment Charm!" another shouted. "Watch your backs..."

Slash!

Before he could finish speaking, his eyes slowly bulged.

A thin line of blood appeared across his throat.

The Disillusionment Charm Wade had enhanced with ancient magic was virtually indistinguishable from true invisibility. In the dense fog, it made him even more elusive.

A single Sectumsempra had killed a powerful wizard.

Three formidable wizards had died within only a few minutes. No matter how ruthless the others were, fear began to take hold.

"Retreat..." one wizard forced the word from his throat.

Hidden in the air beneath a Disillusionment Charm and using his flying spell, Wade immediately noticed him.

It was the same wizard who had asked whether he was Wade Reynolds at the beginning.

So he was their leader?

That settled it. Wade locked onto him completely.

The others could escape, but he could not.

"Trying to run? Did you ask my permission?"

Wade's voice echoed from every direction at once.

The leading wizard abruptly looked up and fired a Killing Curse towards him.

Wade ducked aside, somewhat surprised.

He had located him so quickly by following the magical trail?

He truly was no ordinary opponent.

And it seemed they had finally decided to kill him.

The leader swung his wand sharply, causing the surrounding white fog to churn violently.

The mist seemed to come alive as it surged towards Wade.

The next moment, Wade found himself completely enveloped.

Is he using the fog to reveal my position? What kind of bizarre magic is this?

Before Wade could fully process it, more than twenty Killing Curses came hurtling towards him at once.

But Wade could fly, and Killing Curses were slower than many other spells.

Whoosh!

More than twenty streaks of sinister green light tore through the white mist before gradually fading into the distance.

Wade's figure appeared before the masked wizards once again.

The remaining twenty immediately launched another attack.

However, before their Killing Curses could reach Wade, another spell identical to the earlier bolt of lightning appeared and swept towards them.

This time, however, the lightning did not come from the Wade standing in front of them.

It came from behind.

Boom!

"Argh!"

Caught completely off guard, more than ten wizards were reduced to nothing beneath the lightning.

The survivors only managed to escape because their companions' screams gave them enough time to react.

At the same moment, the twenty-odd Killing Curses struck Wade.

Yet to the astonishment of the remaining wizards, the spells passed straight through his body as though through an illusion.

They spun around and finally saw Wade standing behind them.

He had cast the lightning from there.

"How is that possible? He was clearly..."

"Who told you that everything you see must be real?"

Wade smiled and snapped his fingers.

The other "Wade" gradually faded away like a phantom.

Only then did unmistakable fear appear in the masked wizards' eyes.

If they could not determine whether what they saw was real, how were they supposed to fight?

"Retreat!" the leader roared again.

If there had been any reluctance before, it had now vanished completely.

The others were filled with regret as well.

Had they obeyed immediately and Apparated away when their leader first ordered the retreat, they would not have lost so many people to Wade's surprise attack.

Crack! Crack! Crack!

This time, they did not hesitate and Apparated away one after another.

Yet when their figures reappeared, they were stunned to find themselves still standing in exactly the same place.

The wizards stared at one another in disbelief.

How had they Apparated back to where they started?

There was clearly no Anti-Apparition Jinx here.

"I told you. Everything you experience may not be real, including your own thoughts," Wade said calmly.

"Impossible! You altered our destinations while we were Apparating?"

"No, no. You've misunderstood. I merely caused you to experience the slightest illusion."

"You... you've been toying with us?" the leader demanded furiously.

With the ability to create such illusions, Wade could have killed them effortlessly.

Yet he had deliberately dragged the battle out for so long.

What else could it be but toying with them?

"Oh? And how do you know that the fierce battle you just fought against me wasn't also an illusion?"
