Chapter 218 - Chapter 218: Tedious Training

"Ugh."

Silas let out a long sigh as he walked back.

With about a month left until the preliminaries, he still felt his team's strength wasn't quite enough.

It wasn't that he was worried about his longtime partners.

Pidgeot, after breaking through to Quasi-Elite level, had been steadily improving as usual.

Not exactly a leap in power, but at least gradually increasing.

As for Blaziken, after completing its first molt, it had naturally reached level 49, the threshold between Advance and Quasi-Elite

According to Silas's estimation, it would likely break through very soon.

By then, Pidgeot's long-held position as the team's strongest Pokémon would probably be gone.

Fortunately, Pidgeot was mentally prepared and didn't care.

In its words: even if Blaziken became stronger, it would still have to call Pidgeot "big brother" upon seeing it.

Silas felt relieved—at least this meant the Pokémon had genuine relationships with each other, not just putting on a facade in front of him.

Gigalith's level was also rising rapidly thanks to Silas's heavy investment.

No surprises there; it would easily reach Quasi Elite level before the tournament started.

The preliminaries weren't a quick process—they were long and grueling.

By the main tournament, Silas estimated Rhydon would be even stronger.

The main concern, however, was with the three newer Pokémon.

Servine was the least worrisome. At level 36, evolving into Serperior would only take a couple of days.

Optimistically, it might even reach Quasi-Elite by the main tournament.

In the Quartz Tournament (Unlimited), it would easily be a frontline Pokémon.

Togepi… a little less promising.

There wasn't much to comment on. Silas felt grateful if it simply evolved—nothing more was required.

Watching it eat, drink, and sleep every day, he couldn't help but envy it.

He wanted that too, but it wasn't feasible.

Recently, Silas's main focus had been the newly added Shiny Mareep.

Given the time constraints, he had made extensive preparations.

For example, he had exchanged a generic Leaf Stone for a Thunder Stone of equal quality.

Just like with Servine, Silas's task for Mareep was to absorb a little energy each day while using the Thunder Stone to sense the electric field and improve itself.

Mareep's Electric-type talent exceeded his expectations.

Even though Mareep had Elite-Four potential, its efficiency in absorbing energy was comparable to Servine, who had near-Champion potential.

However, Mareep's physical endurance was average, which left Silas a bit helpless.

Data showed its stamina was about average for its level—a decent but not extraordinary figure.

Silas had invested more than just energy absorption.

A few days ago, a Power Amplifier obtained by trading a Calm Bell arrived.

He had to plead with Roseanne to get it—mainly because production was limited and complex. Silas had acquired it at a low price by cutting the line.

Price wasn't the main problem—the timing was tight.

Silas felt he first owed an apology to Looker.

Roseanne's condition was that Silas shouldn't speak on his behalf.

Silas didn't understand how she already knew before he had started. Women were too hard to understand.

With this careful nurturing, Mareep should evolve into Ampharos before the main tournament without issue.

After all, it wasn't a starter Pokémon that had to wait until level 36–37.

Once it surpassed Advance Level, evolution would be almost instantaneous—just a matter of money and time.

Thanks to Silas passing the Level 6 Pokémon Breeder Exam ahead of schedule, he had reliable sources for high-quality berries from multiple seniors.

This solved a big problem.

Otherwise, buying large quantities of berries at premium prices would have been a huge financial hit.

"Ugh… Four Quasi-Elite Level + two Advance Level (?), can we even make it to the top four? It's risky."

Silas thought. If anyone nearby heard, they would probably scold him.

"You think you can, huh?"

An elderly woman scolded a drunk old man on the street, tugging his ear.

"You're over seventy and still bragging that you could punch a Caterpie or kick a Weedle when you were young? Really impressive, huh?"

The old lady scolded as the old man mumbled incoherently.

"I'm telling you, I was an extremely… extremely skilled Trainer. You dare to talk nonsense? I can't allow it."

He was clearly very drunk and couldn't speak clearly.

"I can't? Hmph."

The old woman laughed and dragged him home.

Everyone silently prayed for the old man—this seemed like the 32nd time this month.

Silas returned to the Pokémon Center, restored his team, and after lunch, set out again.

The familiar training grounds awaited.

This was the place where Pidgeot and Blaziken had trained as young Pokémon in the countryside.

Compared to the previously cramped area, after Silas's extensive renovations, the space was now much more open.

During Pokémon battles, a little damage to the surroundings was inevitable—but he hadn't done it intentionally.

The six Pokémon spread out, quietly training.

"Mareep is now level 13. Evolution should happen within a day or two. Its Static accumulation is sufficient too—everything is proceeding smoothly. Looks like another double blessing is coming."

Silas trained his body inside the gravity field set up by Gigalith.

At the same time, he kept a close watch on his team.

Each of the little ones displayed excellent vigor, which made him very satisfied.

"Togepi~"

Except for one.

"Tehe~"

Togepi hurriedly stood up, unlucky—just as it was sneaking a little break after training, it got caught.

It looked exactly like a student caught by the teacher.

Silas gave it a reproachful look but didn't say much.

A little laziness was fine; the Pokémon had still been training.

However, compared to the others who voluntarily completed extra training, it was slightly behind.

"Blaziken, your third kick angle is too low—raise it more;

Pidgeot, I've told you many times—correct your habit of leaning to the right. Don't subconsciously always dodge to the right, your openings are too large;

Servine, make the whip swings more tricky, cross them like your movements—don't go straight at the target;

Gigalith, open the path so the sand moves ahead of your Solar Beam, otherwise in a sandstorm your Solar Beam will lose effectiveness;

Blaziken, again, your power is insufficient—speed up, accelerate, bring out your advantage..."

The repetitive, mechanical instructions echoed through the forest.

Amid the Pokémon cries and the sound of objects being struck, everything felt so tedious.
