"Ah, so cute, so cute!", that's the casual type of comment.
"! How did you catch that Alolan Vulpix?" — classic trainer's curiosity.
"Nice muscle development on its limbs. Its potential seems high." that's the breeder speaking.
Though it was late at night, most of Silas's friends were still awake.
Young people, after all, don't need too much sleep.
Silas took photos of Alolan Vulpix from every angle.
Not just Alolan Vulpix; his other Pokémon partners had all been photographed like this when they were young.
Except for Serperior, Togekiss, and Ralts, all of them had been raised from eggs by Silas, bit by bit.
Even with those three, the difference in age was minor.
"Vulpix!"
Alolan Vulpix blinked sleepily at the movement.
"Sorry for waking you up."
Silas quickly set down his things and lifted the little Alolan Vulpix.
It nestled on Silas's shoulder, wobbling its small head.
Its front paws reached frantically for something.
Silas noticed it was the blue headscarf he had just unwrapped.
"Do you want it?"
He asked with a smile.
Alolan Vulpix nodded, the fur on its head bouncing energetically.
"Alright, I'll put it on you."
Silas agreed cheerfully.
Such items didn't matter who wore them.
He joked, "You little rascal, did you come out early just because of this?"
"Vulpix!"
Alolan Vulpix lightly tapped Silas's shoulder with a paw.
Its white face showed a slight blush.
Silas decided to just assume it was sleepy.
Female Pokémon really do tend to be cuter than males in personality.
After some fuss…
Silas looked at Alolan Vulpix wrapped like a little mummy and nodded in satisfaction, it actually looked kind of cute.
"Vul Vulpix!"
Sleepy Alolan Vulpix protested, eyes barely open. Regardless of appearance, it was too tight and too warm.
It struggled to loosen the blue headscarf.
Silas blushed; clearly, he wasn't skilled with this kind of thing.
He quickly freed Alolan Vulpix from the scarf. They stared at each other, big eyes meeting little ones.
"Why don't you try it yourself?"
After a moment's hesitation, Silas laid the blue scarf flat on the bed.
Alolan Vulpix, wobbling like a little model, sighed helplessly.
"I just hatched, why do I have to do this myself?"
It bit a corner of the scarf, folded it with its mouth, and in a single motion rolled over, wrapping itself inside.
"Incredible, looks a bit like ice cream," Silas commented.
"Toge?"
A spiky-headed Togekiss peeked from behind a door. It seemed to have seen something amazing.
Excited, it leapt onto the bed and opened its mouth, ready to lick the blue-and-white "ice cream."
"Swish!"
Silas immediately scooped up Alolan Vulpix with the scarf.
"Toge?"
Togekiss tilted its head.
Silas explained, "This isn't ice cream, it's your new friend."
He showed Togekiss Alolan Vulpix.
Curled into a tiny ball, Alolan Vulpix's tail seemed to merge with the fur on its head.
Togekiss looked disappointed and lowered its head.
"You've already had two today. Eat more and you'll turn into a little pig," Silas scolded with a wry smile. Would he fall for Togekiss's acting? No way.
This Pokémon was a drama king, especially when it came to snacks. Serperior had been tricked countless times by it.
Even Silas initially would give in and let it eat more because of its antics. But eventually, he got used to it.
Want extra food? No chance!
Togekiss lay on the bed, legs stretched straight to the ceiling, defeated.
Silas gently placed Alolan Vulpix on the other side of the bed, ignoring Togekiss, and slipped under the covers.
"Togekiss!"
Feeling the trainer's movement, Togekiss rolled over.
Its light weight prevented the bed from collapsing, otherwise Silas felt it would have broken.
"Not going to sleep in your own room today?"
Silas smiled at the motionless Togekiss.
Togekiss gave a tired nod.
"Alright, goodnight."
"Togekiss!"
The room went dark.
Thanks to Alolan Vulpix's faint white glow, one could see a handsome young man sleeping on the right.
Beside his pillow was a curled-up white, ball-shaped creature, Alolan Vulpix with fluffy fur.
Naturally, the young man's head rested atop it, making it more comfortable.
Creak
Another door opened.
Ralts floated quietly through the air.
Its Psychic powers let it clearly see the scene.
It landed between Silas and Alolan Vulpix.
"Ralts."
Feeling the cool air nearby, Ralts closed its eyes happily.
The next morning, Silas found his bed completely filled.
He struggled to move Pidgeot's wings off him.
He was shocked to see that, except for Gigalith, all the other Pokémon were sleeping on the bed.
Luckily, Gigalith was smart and hadn't climbed up.
Otherwise, last night would have been impossible to sleep.
"Ralts."
Ralts weakly called to Silas.
He realized it was trapped by Serperior, coiled around the center of the bed.
He carefully created a gap for it, and Ralts finally freed itself, flitting above Serperior to complain about its "wrongdoing."
It had arrived first, but Serperior had claimed its spot. The commotion didn't go unnoticed by the other Pokémon.
Blaziken, lying across Togekiss's pillow, stretched lazily, enjoying comfort.
"Toge Togekiss!"
But Togekiss wasn't so easy to deal with.
A patch of its white fur had turned yellow.
No prizes for guessing, it was Blaziken's doing. It's high body temperature had browned Togekiss's fur overnight.
Pidgeot and Ampharos weren't in much better shape.
Ampharos was fine, mainly Pidgeot.
It had been zapped by Ampharos's static electricity, so it draped a wing over Silas's body.
The other wing hung down to the floor.
"You guys…"
What could Silas do? They were all his Pokémon, so he could only coax them gently.
Fortunately, they were used to roughhousing, so after a bit of commotion, everyone settled down again.
"Alright, no morning training today."
Feeling dizzy from the early morning chaos, Silas gave his Pokémon a day off.
Pidgeot's eyes rolled.
"Don't get any ideas. Just this once, next time there won't be a break."
Not exaggerating, Silas could tell what Pidgeot was thinking just by the movement of its feathers and quickly abandoned any rebellious ideas.
He worried that tomorrow Pidgeot might try to "party" on his bed while he was asleep.
"Vulpix!"
Alolan Vulpix woke up groggily at the noise.
Why was it so lively so early in the morning?
"Ou!"
It was startled by seven heads leaning toward it.
Its previously bright vision immediately dimmed.
"Ralts!"
Ralts cheerfully greeted everyone.
As a Psychic-type, it was always full of energy. Special Pokémon like Cassidy's were rare exceptions.
"Vulpix!"
Feeling Ralts's goodwill, Alolan Vulpix squinted and returned the greeting.
Silas took the other Pokémon back to their rooms, cleaned them up, and prepared breakfast.
Two little ones bonding, what's all the fuss about, everyone?
"Here, this is breakfast for you two."
After a long while, Silas finally emerged from the last Pokémon's room.
He took out two bottles of large MooMoo Milk from his backpack and attached straws.
Alolan Vulpix's eyes lit up.
It quickly grabbed the bottles with its front paws to steady them.
"Glug glug!"
Drinking eagerly, it immediately mastered using the straw.
Ralts was more elegant about it.
"Ralu!"
It even gently advised Alolan Vulpix to drink more slowly to avoid choking.
Alolan Vulpix obediently followed the advice.
Being a Psychic-type, Ralts mostly trained using meditation. Its food mainly served as a supplement.
So its typical breakfast was just one big bottle of MooMoo Milk, containing all the energy and nutrients it needed for a while.
That's why it was so proficient.
Watching the two Pokémon get along well, Silas smiled and went to the bathroom.
While washing his face, he planned today's training schedule.
No morning training today, but there was still midday, afternoon, and evening sessions.
First, though, he had to visit the Goldenrod Gym.
Whitney had promised him her high-quality MooMoo Milk had arrived.
This special "MooMoo Milk" could even restore a Pokémon's lost stamina, comparable to some medical items.
That alone spoke volumes about its quality.
Back in his room, all eight Pokémon lined up obediently.
Seeing Alolan Vulpix perform its first lineup so perfectly, Silas smiled fondly.
"Let's go, guys."
Red light flashed one by one, and except for Ralts and Alolan Vulpix, the others returned to their Poké Balls.
"Vulpix!"
Alolan Vulpix stared blankly.
"Oh, right! I almost forgot, I haven't prepared a Poké Ball for this little one yet."
Silas tapped his head, realizing his memory had been a bit off lately.
He took out several Poké Balls and placed them in front of Alolan Vulpix.
"See? Pick whichever one you want as your home."
Alolan Vulpix opened its tiny mouth slightly and sniffed each one curiously.
Silas didn't rush it, just watched quietly.
Finally, it chose a pink Sweet Ball with a heart-shaped mark.
It had been handcrafted in Azalea Town.
Silas wasn't surprised, little girls often liked pink things. As for it being somewhat extravagant, he didn't mind.
This Sweet Ball had a special property: it increased the capture rate of Pokémon of the opposite gender during battle.
Simply put, if you use a male Pokémon to battle, capturing a female Pokémon with it is easier. Though Silas noted he hadn't yet faced any Pokémon that couldn't be caught.
"Just press this little button," he instructed Alolan Vulpix, unsure what it would do next.
Curious, it tapped the white button with its nose.
"Beep!"
The Sweet Ball signaled a successful capture.
Then Alolan Vulpix emerged naturally.
It ran straight to the bed, picking up the blue headscarf.
"Vulpix!"
It bounced on the floor, calling to Silas.
Silas crouched down, holding the Sweet Ball: "Come on in!"
Luckily, the blue headscarf was a Pokémon accessory, or it couldn't have entered the Poké Ball.
Seeing Alolan Vulpix return to its "new home," Ralts naturally perched on Silas's shoulder.
"Go go go~"
Silas happily left the hotel.
When he arrived at Goldenrod Gym, he was told Whitney hadn't gotten up yet.
"Huh?"
Silas looked at the front desk, puzzled.
The receptionist looked apologetic: "Our young lady sleeps in a bit later."
Silas checked the time, it was already past nine, and he had been worried about being late.
"Alright, I'll wait inside then."
Since he had already come, there was no turning back. He waited in the gym's guest room.
The front desk offered him some drinks and handed him a poster.
"This is for the annual Bug-Catching Contest at the nearby Nature Park in Goldenrod City. You might be interested. It's the day after tomorrow."
She blushed slightly as she explained.
"Thanks, I'll check it out."
Silas looked at the poster with interest.
He remembered that Goldenrod Radio wanted to make a show with him. But the radio station collapsed, so nothing further had developed.
He wasn't sure if they would contact him again.
Given his current reputation, a single appearance fee would probably be tens of millions.
The fact that he owned a Rainbow Feather made it even more valuable.
Ding ding ding!
As if on cue, Mary called while he was browsing the poster.
"Good morning, Mary"
"Good morning, Silas. I'm calling on behalf of Goldenrod Radio regarding the Nature Park event the day after tomorrow. Do you have time to discuss it?"
Silas paused. "Of course. I'm at Whitney's right now. Can we meet a bit later?"
Mary said, "You're at Whitney's? Perfect. We'll meet there, she'll help us a bit this time too."
"Alright, I'll be in the guest room."
Silas agreed.
