Chapter 14 - Chapter Fourteen: Reunited (2)

Cassiel stormed into the bar, anger clouding his vision as he spotted his target.

"YOU!" He smacked the drink out of the man's hand. Red skin. White suit. An amused smile.

"Cassiel. What a wonderful reunion," the man said, taunting.

"You were supposed to be locked up!"

"And you were supposed to be in heaven, making sure I was, in fact, trapped. Took a little vacation for, what—three hundred centuries?"

"What are you doing here?"

"Me? Just having a little fun terrorizing innocent humans. You know, normal boring evil."

"You came for my human!"

"Your human?" An arrogant smile curled on the man's face, one eyebrow raising.

Cassiel knew he had slipped up, but he didn't flinch. He didn't even blink.

"A mate? Forbidden, no?" the man said, voice dripping with mockery. "Is that why we have the honor of seeing you—you—a celestial being, one of the most important in creation, in a shabby, unholy place like this?"

"Shut up. Do not go near my human. I am his guardian. If you hurt him, you'll face the consequences. I should banish you right now, but I won't. I'm giving you a chance."

Cassiel turned and started walking away.

"Oh my! Angry Cassiel. Too bad I've seen that before," the man chuckled.

Cassiel froze. His eyes flashed electric blue, the air around them snapping silent and cold.

"Do as much as think about him," Cassiel said, voice deadly soft, "and I'll come for you. I'll snap your limbs and feed them to you until you choke on your own filth.

Do. Not. Test. Me."

He left the bar without another word, catching the fear in the man's eyes as he went.

"I've missed you too, Cassiel," the man murmured, before getting up and disappearing into the night.

Erick had gone to get food for Damian because he complained about how terrible the hospital food was. Damian was staring outside the window when he saw a shadow from the corner of his eyes. Turning his head he saw it was Cassiel.

Cassiel silently walked towards the bed, checking his body if it was getting better or worse. He could've healed Damian himself but he had to save up his energy. It was still weak.

Silence clouded the room till it became too heavy not to notice. It wasn't a comfortable type of silence. It was filled with so much unanswered questions and awkwardness.

"Wow, you guys are really terrible at communicating." Erick walked into the room and set the takeout on the table beside Damian's bed.

Cassiel watched Erick warily, not knowing whether to trust him or not.

Erick helped Damain up and got him comfortable.

"What? You're not going to offer to help? I could just feed him myself, we are as close as pies, y'know." Erick smirked, wrapping his arm around Damian's shoulder and bringing his face close to Damian's.

Cassiel stiffened watching the both of them.

'Was he Damain's lover? If he already did have a lover then he won't accept me...'

His jaw ticked and he met Damain's gaze.

"If you want me to." He muttered.

Damain looked at Cassiel then back to Erick who was — not so descreetly trying to get Cassiel jealous.

Damian cleared his throat. "Cassiel, this is Erick. My best friend." He emphasized. "And Erick, this is Cassiel. The new— uh —friend I was telling you about."

"Nice to meet you, Cassiel." He walked over him and smiled. "Don't worry. I'm not into men, no matter how attractive and so my type Damian is."

Damian visibly shuddered.

"Cassiel, if you don't mind...can you feed me please? I can't really use my hands right now."

Cassiel nodded and walked towards the bedside. Sitting on the bed.

"Well, I'll take my leave then. I've got someone pesky waiting for me anyways. Damian, keep in touch." He said seriously and walked out.

Now it was only the both of them in the privacy of the room and Damain was becoming nervous.

Cassiel assumed the duty of a caretaker easily. Feeding him, giving him water when asked and when he was done eating helping him adjust his bed to lay on it.

"I'm sorry, I let this happen." Cassiel whispered into the night.

Damian remained silent but only for a short while.

"Thos thugs, was there a reason they came after me?"

Cassiel shook his head.

"Don't worry from here on out I'll protect you. From any creature, dead or living." His eyes flashed blue.

"How reassuring. You do know that I still don't trust you, right? I don't know who you are, where you're from or what you want."

'I want to stay by your side forever.' Cassiel thought, instead he said, "I'm here to protect you."

"From what!?"

"You should rest, Damian. You need your energy."

"So what? You're just going to leave now?"

Cassiel smiled softly. "Never again. I'm staying by your side for as long as you want me." He stood up from the bed, covering Damian with his covers.

"Goodnight." He whispered, tempted to graze his forehead with a kiss, he only stared at Damian's beautiful eyes before straightening up and going to sit on the chair beside him.
