Chapter 16 - The talk

However, before Eris could strap Bruno to the glider and jump off, Elsa intervened. Even the duke and the duchess rushed to the scene.

"Milady! You will not be doing any such thing." Elsa said and had to restrain her physically. While Eris still protested. She claimed to know what she was doing and that she is confident the glider will fly.

But none of them were having it. "Eris, stop this dear." The one to speak was her mother. While the Duke apologized to the prince for his daughter's eccentricity.

But the Prince Bruno was actually excited to see what his new would be fiance was up to. He shook his head.

"It's alright your grace. I am also a bit interested in what lady Eris was doing. She looked really into it." He walked a bit by the glider and touched it. It looked exciting.

Meanwhile, the duchess was already scolding Eris. "Dear, he is the prince. You cannot do this. Do you want to kill him? And get our whole family executed? What if something happened to his highness?"

Eris, still held by Elsa looked at her mother. As if she was confused. "Who said, I was trying to kill the brat? This glider can fly and I was going to be with him."

"Lady Eris!", "ERIS!" both the duchess and Elsa scolded. "You cannot call the prince a brat." The duchess said. "Also, what do you mean you would go with him as well! What were you going to do?"

"I was going to fly it. I made it. So, of course I will fly. Do you think he knows anything about flying?" She said the last sentence pointing at Bruno.

Both of them were taken inside the mansion. Duchess asked Eris to apologize to Bruno. But he brushed it saying it was no big deal.

"See, even the br... his highness understands," she said as a glare from her mother stopped her from saying brat.

"Young lady, you will apologize to his highness, otherwise you will not allowed to leave your room for an entire month." Elsa said.

This forced Rommel/Eris to apologize to the prince. Her ego bruised that she had to bow to a literal toddler younger than Manfred. However, Bruno promptly accepted the apology relieving everyone else.

Bruno was here to have a fiance. Though he didn't yet understand the meaning of marriage fully at his age, he was thrilled to have a partner of same age, who can freely come and go and play with him. But here as it turned out, this girl who would be his wife was a fun one.

He had noticed how diligently she worked on that glider, ordering servants and even him to do what she wanted and when she saw that they were failing, she worked herself. Not to mention her absolute trust that this thing could actually fly.

He even noticed Eris's dress, though it wasn't something a young lady of the ducal house should wear, but it was something and somehow, made the girl look more handsome.

After a while, everyone left them to talk of course, Elsa stood outside the door to make sure she doesn't run with the prince again.

Also, the glider was removed from near that cliff. The duke wanted to take it apart but since it was the first thing, her daughter made and so diligently, the duchess said to keep it. It was then locked up somewhere out of Eris's reach.

Inside the room, Bruno once again looked at his future wife. "What was that thing that you build lady Eris?" He asked.

"Huh, bra... Your Highness," she corrected herself quickly, "That was what we call a glider. It flies or what pilots say, glides." She explained.

"Excuse me! That thing made of simple wood and canvas and ropes can fly?" He asked surprised.

"Sure, it flies. I have built one before. I have flown a few myself as well. Too bad the ladies and the gentleman here are too scared. They won't allow me."

Bruno stood up, "Then come to my palace some day. Tomorrow if possible. We can build one there without interference." He said closing in on Eris.

Eris looked up to meet his eyes filled with excitement about flying. The same excitement when Manfred was first going to ride horse. She remembered the incident, smiled a little. She misses both her son and wife.

"What's the matter lady Eris?" Bruno was taken aback he didn't expect Eris to smile like that. "Can I not fly? I always wanted to know how the skies look like. They say gods live there." He excitedly said.

"Nothing, you remind me of my Manfred. He is just like you." She said, "If he can ride a horse, you can fly as well. But don't be fooled. God doesn't live in the sky. He must live somewhere else."

Bruno was taken aback. "Who is this Manfred, lady Eris?" He asked.

Eris froze for half a heartbeat. "Scheiße," she thought. She had let the name slip too easily. But she quickly recovered herself. After all, she is someone who spoke with a very rude Austrian painter bluntly and didn't blink.

"Just a treacherous boy who is too quick to betray his father to his mother." Eris said. "I miss that brat and his mother."
