Chapter 2 - New Home

This feeling. No, this pressure, that enveloped me felt as though my entire body was being tightly squeezed by the comfort of a warm blanket. It wasn't a bad feeling, in fact, it was quite nice. Almost as if the faint pressure surrounding my body was empowering me.

Like a battery giving life to an electronic of sorts.

I liked it. I liked it a lot. I could feel myself regaining strength. This pressure was giving me the strength I so desperately needed.

But oddly, it went on for quite a while. So long in fact, that I thought I was inside a dream, with nothing but eerie blackness surrounding me for miles.

When I did finally awaken from this supposed "dream", I realized just how wrong I was.

Moments later, I felt the strange pressure start to slowly intensify as it felt like my entire body was being squeezed even harder,

Then, finally, I saw something. Light. It was light! I could finally see again.

But before noticing anything, I felt the cold embrace of hands. Multiple hands in fact, wrapping me in something warm before I could even move.

I tried to see what it was, but I couldn't see very clearly due to my vision still being quite murky. Moments later though, I could see much better as my eyes were cleared of some strange gooey substance.

I tried to perceive exactly what was going on but all I could see was a very tired looking woman speaking a language I couldn't understand in a very faint, exhausted voice.

Next to her, a tall, burly man with black hair, staring directly at me.

But wait, why are they looking at me? Is this woman holding me? Why would she be holding me?

Wait... What the hell... Why can't I move? Why am I not able to control my limbs?

But when I looked down to try and find them, I realized the horrifying reason why.

Looking down, all I could see was a tightly wrapped cloth blanket around my entire body. I began to wonder exactly why that would be until, finally, it hit me.

I'm a baby?????

***

I think to myself as I lay comfortably on a makeshift crib that my parents placed me in.

It's been exactly one week since I realized I was in the body of a baby, and I've found out many things since then.

First is my new name, Ronin Vale. From what I hear my parents talking about, I have started to understand this world's language a bit better. That's how I determined my new name. It's not bad, and frankly, I quite like it. On earth, it meant wandering samurai or samurai without a master, and I think that fits my personality quite nicely.

Second is the fact that I'm not on Earth anymore. No, this is an entirely new planet, one that would stump any aspiring astronomer from Earth. The reason being, because this planet was filled with countless dangers. Dangers that the inhabitants of earth couldn't even compare to.

Third, I live on one of the continents of this planet known as Superia, and on this continent, inscribed on every map, lie three domains.

The first one, the domain in which I live in is called Anthrador. The inhabitants being mainly human.

The second, where the Elven race roams free, is called Eldoria.

Finally, in the last domain, known as Beastaris, is where the beast people gather. The domains are divided equally amongst the races, as to not provoke any land-hungry ruler into going to war.

And finally, but most importantly... The greatest aspect of this world in which I had reincarnated into, magic. Yes, I know they may not be very advanced in other aspects like technology, but who needs it when you can shoot fire from your fingertips?!

Also, forget about the medicine, magic's got that covered. Entertainment? Magic can easily suffice.

How about education? Magic academies!

These are all wonderful things that magic makes up for that even Earth doesn't have.

But alas, I could do none of it for one simple reason: I'm a baby!

Babies shouldn't be able to do magic at such a young age. At least that's what everyone else thinks, but not me. I know I can do magic because of the voice.

The voice that told me I would get a special privilege once I came here.

I haven't actually figured out exactly what that privilege is, but I know it obviously has

something to do with magic if this is the world I was sent to, but I haven't even tried to figure it out, so maybe today I can do it

Thinking back to when I used to read novels in my free time, so I wasn't always so bored, I realize that this is actually somewhat of a cliche. I mean come on, a man being betrayed and murdered by his best friend to only then spark some sort of divine intervention, being reincarnated by a supposed god and given a powerful tool that is supposed to give them an edge over the other people.

That is one hundred percent a huge cliche. But what do I care?

I mean, as long as I'm alive, but I guess I'm supposed to have some sort of cool ability now or something else that's supposed to start my journey of becoming the strongest... or something?

Whatever, for now, let's just try figuring out what exactly these supposed "Gods Of Creation" gave to me. But how do I figure it out? After all, I am just a baby; what exactly am I able to do?

Let's think back to the old cliches... Oh I know! I just have to say some sort of phrase to activate it and get it to reveal itself to me. But... I can't exactly talk or else my parents will hear me. Okay, let's just try thinking the words instead.

System!

Dang that didn't work? Okay, let me think some more, I don't exactly remember them all. Oh I know.

Status open!

BOOM!

Right in front of my eyes. It appeared, a status screen. Look exactly like one from a video game or a novel. I can't believe that worked!

This is amazing! I say as I analyze the information on the seemingly holographic screen.

[Status]

Name: Ronin Vale

Level: 1 Class: None Race: Human

Title(s): None

Unique Traits: [Skill Tree] [Inventory]

Health: 10/10

Mana: 10/10

Available Stat Points: 0

Strength: 1

Agility: 1

Dexterity: 1

Intelligence: 1

Skills: Analysis(1)

I was absolutely baffled. Well, it looks like I found that privilege. I think to myself elated at what I discovered. To think I actually had a skill this whole time.

Damn, this whole thing is just crazy, and what does it even mean by unique traits?

As soon as I focus on the words Skill Tree, something else popped up, but this time it isn't a status screen. No, it's a message, a message from the system!

[You must level up a skill before unlocking the Skill Tree]

Damn, I guess that skill didn't just come from nowhere. Maybe I have it, because to gain access to this Skill Tree thing I need to level up a skill. It seems like I should probably use this skill a bit to see if I can level it up.

I look up towards the large cotton piece of cloth I've been using this whole time as a sort of pillow rather than a blanket, while I lay peacefully in my crib.

In the next moment, I focus hard on the cloth and think to myself the name of the skill, Analysis!

Instantly, a screen with the status of the cloth appeared right in front of me.

[Cotton Cloth]

Condition: Slightly Worn

Description: A piece of cloth. It can be used for many things, typically as a blanket.

This is amazing! I think to myself, looking at the description in astonishment. Using this skill gives me information on the intended target, and what's more, if I use this skill a couple more times, I might be able to level it up!

Before that, though, there is still one thing I need to check out. I look at my status screen in the direction of one particular unique trait, the inventory. I haven't tried this out yet, I wonder what it'll be like!

I focus on the word Inventory, and as I do, a brand new screen I hadn't seen before appears right in front of my eyes.

What I see on this screen, however, shocks me to the very core. Bringing with it an anger I had not felt since I had first arrived in this world. Etched onto the screen in front of my eyes was an item that I never wanted to see again in my life.

Inventory:

[Silver Dagger]

Gabe... it seems even after coming to an entirely different planet, I still could not erase your existence from my mind.

Damn, and here I was, trying to forget about him and that incident. So why? Why did I retain this dagger and nothing else? In any case, I will never be able to forget about the moment when my supposed "best friend" stole my life from me.

No matter, I will just focus on leveling up the analysis skill so I can finally find out what this Skill Tree is.

However, it seems that fate had other plans because in the next moment, I heard a young, flowery voice call my name. It was my mother, the person I had seen in my first moments of being born.

She advanced toward me with a joyful smile on her face, clearly displaying her cheerful mood.

Hearing this happy voice, I closed my eyes, pretending to be asleep as I was supposed to be napping. Soon following this action, I heard my mother stop at the crib and say,

"Oh Rony, it's time to wake up, sweetheart. I wouldn't want you to ruin your sleep tonight."

After she said this, I could feel hands wrapping around my waist.

Noticing that she was trying to wake me up, I slowly opened my eyes with a happy smile. Seeing this, my mother's smile grew even wider.

"You sure are happy, aren't you? Well, why don't we go fix you up a meal?"

When I hear this, I suddenly feel a bit hungry. A nice meal wouldn't be so bad right about now. I think as my mother lifts me to her chest and walks out of the room.

I live in a one-story house made of stone and wood for the roof. There being an extra layer of hay on top of the roof as to prevent any sort of leakage.

From the room my parents have placed my crib in, I determined the location of everything else. My parents' room was directly across from mine, and the bathroom was situated across the hall as well, with the kitchen being at the front of the house, being the first thing you notice when walking in the entrance.

This is where my mother had taken me. My mother placed me gently onto a wooden chair and walked off to prepare my meal.

It seems breastfeeding isn't a thing in this world. My parents just fed me mashed-up foods that seemed to resemble potatoes.

They taste quite nice, especially when topped with the especially rare piece of shredded meat that only comes into the house every now and again.

Using this time to eat the food that was placed softly in front of me, I remembered what I wanted to do. So, calmly looking up towards my mother, who still had that cheerful smile plastered on her face, I used my analysis skill, and what I saw filled me with glee.

[Mariselle Vale]

Rank: D

Abilities: Unknown

Relationship: She is your Mother

Hmm, I wonder what that rank means? Maybe it's the level of power she holds. Yeah, maybe that is this world's power ranking system. However, before I could think too far into it, something appeared in front of my eyes.

It was a message from the system.

[Analysis has leveled up]

[You have gained 1 Skill Tree point]

[The requirements have been met, the Skill Tree is now available]
