What's going on?
Alain watched in shock as the girl gently untied her apron and walked slowly toward him.
The girl was tall, around 165 centimeters. With bright eyes, white teeth, a high nose bridge, and fair skin, she was pure and beautiful.
Her hair was dark blue, and her eyes were the same deep blue.
The snug apron highlighted her slender waist and full curves.
No matter how you looked at it, this was Mita, right?
She didn't take off the apron, walking lightly toward him.
"Here, give me your coat." She stood charmingly before Alain, her head tilted slightly as she held out her hand.
Her palm was as flawless as moonlight, seeming to reflect a porcelain-like luster in the sunlight.
Alain's hands moved before he had time to think. He took off his coat and placed it in her hands.
The motion was so practiced it was as if he had done it countless times.
And the girl, just as familiar with the routine, walked to the bathroom. Soon, the sound of the washing machine could be heard.
While she was gone, Alain sat on the sofa to sort out his thoughts.
He had originally seen the scene in this room and thought the person with him in the illusion was that person—
Alain's ex-girlfriend, a girl named "Yang Wanhua."
But when he actually walked into the kitchen and saw her... unexpectedly, her appearance was presented in the form of Mita.
And...
Alain remembered the low ponytail he had first seen upon entering the kitchen, and his expression darkened.
Yang Wanhua's form in the illusion was not only that of Mita, but specifically Crazy Mita.
His gaze shifted to the photo of the two of them on the dining table. The girl in the picture had long, black hair and deep brown eyes. Though equally beautiful, compared to the "foreign beauty" of Mita, Yang Wanhua was an Asian beauty.
Her height was also around 165cm, but she definitely shouldn't have dark blue hair and pupils.
This proved that, at the very least, his own perception had been altered.
And to be able to do this...
"Mist Entity." He spoke the name.
At the same time, Alain's thoughts couldn't help but drift to what Cute Mita had said:
[I saw Monika and Crazy Mita talking.]
[Crazy Mita wants to create a world with only one Mita.]
Combining this with the Crazy Mita in the illusion... Alain could only think that Crazy Mita was indeed related to the illusion.
After all, it was right in his face...
"No." Alain shook his head, rubbing the space between his eyebrows.
The enemy must have a purpose for doing this. Even if there was no purpose, it was definitely to mess with him.
According to Alain's current guess: the Unknown Port was behind the Mist Entity. Since it had made such an obvious attempt at provocation—
Then what Alain had to do was also very simple.
Since it wanted to drive a wedge between him and Crazy Mita, he would not let the enemy get its wish.
Whatever the enemy desperately wanted to achieve, Alain would shatter it.
To trust Crazy Mita, to trust Mina, was also to trust himself.
With this thought, his chaotic mind relaxed a little.
Just then, Wanhua came out of the bathroom and saw Alain sitting on the sofa at a glance.
She smiled slightly, tiptoed up behind him, and hugged him. "Surprise!"
Alain's shoulders stiffened. He turned his head at the sound and saw the smiling Mita girl.
The thought of his ex-girlfriend appearing with Crazy Mita's face gave him a sense of dissonance.
"You scared me," he said with a small smile.
"Well, I'm going to cook now. Wait for me!" After she spoke, she let go of Alain and walked toward the kitchen.
Alain watched her back, his gaze shifting slightly to the photo on the table.
He and she had met in a school building. At the time, Yang Wanhua had dropped a textbook, and he happened to pick it up, thus beginning an ill-fated relationship.
Acquaintance, friendship, romance, confession, and then heating up. It was a university romance.
Alain's own family situation was rather special: after he became an adult, those two scumbags mostly left him alone. Fortunately, his self-discipline from his past life as a transmigrator was still intact, and working part-time in his spare time was enough to cover tuition, meals, and other expenses.
After Yang Wanhua heard about this, she invited Alain to move into the small apartment where she lived, to eat and live together.
Alain looked around the nostalgic apartment.
This was where it all began. It was also the end.
Their relationship had heated up in this apartment, and the end of the relationship was here as well.
He glanced at the light pink calendar hanging on the wall. Today was the 29th.
There was less than a day until that day—the 30th.
"I see..." He now understood what the Mist Entity wanted him to see.
It truly was... an indelible memory.
"Alain." From the kitchen, the girl's call came through, accompanied by the 'clack-clack-clack' of chopping vegetables.
Alain pulled his gaze back and answered casually, "What is it?"
"How are your parents doing?"
"They're fine. It seems like they haven't been very busy," Alain recalled something.
Those two scumbags had gone abroad right around this time. The 'not very busy' part was probably them packing their bags, getting visas, and so on.
"Oh... I see." Wanhua's chopping stopped for two seconds, then resumed with a 'clack-clack-clack'.
"By the way, that bracelet on the table, do you like it?"
"Bracelet?" Alain looked at the low table in the living room and only then noticed a blue, ring-shaped object.
"That's the latest prototype from the professor's research lab~ But even though they say that, I actually did it all by myself."
"That old hag is really something else," Alain replied proficiently, picking up the bracelet. He examined it back and forth and found a small screen, about the width of his little finger.
"Right?! I'm telling you, that woman is always trying to take credit for her students' work. She usually doesn't care about anything, but whenever I'm writing a paper or taking on a project, she comes over acting all concerned..."
The girl's chattering didn't affect Alain's observation. He looked at the small screen and put the bracelet on.
The dim screen lit up, displaying information such as Alain's heart rate.
"Hmph~ That project from the company before, I clearly took it on myself, but she insisted on putting the whole 'group's' name on it. In the end, a whole bunch of senior and junior classmates came to split the bonus. The old hag took the largest share.
"You've worked hard." He felt along the bracelet's strap and quickly found what he was looking for.
It was an extremely thin and short sharp object, almost impossible to find if one didn't feel for it carefully.
The tip of the sharp object was clearly aimed at his wrist.
"By the way, about the bracelet—" Alain's words were cut short.
"Hmph!" Her kitchen knife slammed heavily onto the cutting board. Shreds of cabbage flew in arcs and fell into the sink.
"Hey, hey! Are you listening? You're being so perfunctory, why!" Wanhua's eyes widened.
Her deep brown eyes were incredibly hollow at this moment, as if chaotic, spinning lines had been drawn with a black pencil.
The knife on the cutting board was embedded deep within it, cutting a deep gash.
The cabbage juice trickled down the blade, forming a single droplet that finally fell onto the board.
Alain stopped observing the 'little mechanism' on the bracelet, merely glancing at the heart rate on the small screen, his expression as calm as ever.
"No, I was just going to say, I really like the bracelet you gave me."
She tilted her head slightly and blinked her big eyes. "Is that so?"
As if nothing had happened, she turned back and continued to work on her big project with a 'clack-clack-clack'.
"I'm glad you like it."
