Chapter 530: Hah—Hey!
Along with that line came Steven himself—his figure reappearing as the invisibility wore off.
He'd seen lines like that countless times in all sorts of questionable doujin. And as for what usually came next… well, it was almost guaranteed to head straight into not safe for kids territory.
But there was no way Steven could just stand by and watch something like that happen.
Without hesitation, he stepped forward and placed a hand on the man's shoulder. Then, with a grave expression, he stared him straight in the eye.
"Unlawful imprisonment of a young girl. Restriction of personal freedom. That's illegal behavior. Come with me."
If not for the stocking mask still stretched over his head—courtesy of Lin Yuxia—his words might've actually sounded convincing. Paired with that righteous tone, it almost carried the weight of real authority.
Unfortunately, his sudden, out-of-nowhere appearance, combined with his utterly ridiculous outfit, made the entire scene absurd beyond belief.
Not only was the man caught off guard—even the tiger-striped girl, who had been moments away from despair, now stared at him in complete confusion.
After all, who would expect someone dressed like that to just materialize out of thin air?
She didn't fully understand what he was saying… but at the very least, it seemed like she might actually be saved.
"Mind your own damn business!"
The man finally snapped out of his shock after Steven placed a hand on his shoulder. Regardless of who this guy was, his sudden appearance was nothing short of a slap in the face.
And those words?
To him, they sounded like outright mockery.
Already short-tempered, there was no way he could suppress his anger.
No matter who this guy was, he was going to pay for this.
Without hesitation, the man grabbed Steven's arm. As a trained elite mercenary, he specialized in joint-lock techniques. With a sharp twist of his wrist, he aimed to snap Steven's arm clean off.
But—
Something was wrong.
His grip, which could easily bend steel, failed to produce any effect.
The arm resting on his shoulder felt like a mountain—completely immovable.
His expression darkened instantly.
Without thinking, he ducked and slipped out from under Steven's hand, retreating a step.
Anyone with that kind of strength… was no ordinary opponent.
The anger on his face faded, replaced by cold vigilance.
Yes, he might be lecherous and crude—but beneath all that, he was still an elite operative of Umbrella. Against a real threat, he wouldn't be careless.
"…What exactly do you want?" he said, a faint red glow flickering in his eyes. His voice carried a brutal, almost feral edge. "If you're here to save her… then be prepared to be crushed."
His gaze was filled with killing intent.
Not like Lin Yuxia's frustrated glare—this was genuine. Given the chance, Steven had no doubt this man would reduce him to a bloody smear without hesitation.
Unfortunately for him, he was far out of his league.
"Hold on a second," Steven suddenly said, raising a hand as if calling for a timeout. "Let me find some music that fits the scene."
Compared to the tense, life-or-death atmosphere, Steven looked completely out of place—like an actor who had wandered in from a comedy set.
And then—
He actually pulled out an old-fashioned portable speaker, the kind typically used for public square dancing.
Under everyone's bewildered gaze, Steven even took the time to set up an orange spotlight behind himself, casting a dramatic glow across his back.
Anyone who didn't know better might've thought he was filming a movie.
But once the initial shock wore off, the lecherous man had no intention of letting Steven continue his nonsense.
No matter what this guy was doing—it didn't change the killing intent surging within him.
He didn't rush forward. Instead, he raised one hand and aimed it at Steven from a distance. Then, as if gripping something invisible, he clenched his fist and slammed it downward.
"Watch out!"
The tiger-striped girl, who understood his abilities better than anyone, shouted a warning. She had been defeated by that very move before—she knew exactly how dangerous it was.
But she was too late.
By the time her voice rang out, Steven had already felt something forming above his head and crashing down toward him.
It was like an invisible warhammer descending from the sky.
Even before it struck, the sheer pressure alone was enough to make one's skin crawl.
And yet, despite sensing the danger, despite hearing the girl's warning, Steven didn't move.
He continued fiddling with his equipment as if nothing was happening.
The next moment—
BOOM!
A heavy, muffled impact shook the room.
The invisible hammer struck Steven directly, kicking up a cloud of dust that completely engulfed him.
The sound alone was enough to alert the Umbrella members outside.
As for the attacker—
The tension on his face finally eased, replaced with a hint of satisfaction.
With that technique, even advanced Columbian combat armor would struggle to withstand the impact. For an ordinary-looking guy like this mysterious kid, take it head-on with his body? There was no way he survived.
Most likely… he had already been reduced to a pile of pulp.
With a sneer, the man looked toward where Steven had been standing, eager to turn to the bound girl and demonstrate exactly what happened to those who played hero.
Meanwhile, the tiger-striped girl averted her gaze slightly.
Even someone like her—a trained fighter—had been knocked unconscious by that strange Originium Art when caught off guard.
For someone like Steven to take an even stronger hit like that…
She didn't even want to imagine the outcome.
But then, something unexpected happened.
As the dust slowly settled, a strange yet stirring melody echoed through the small room.
An orange glow, like the light of a setting sun, illuminated the room.
Through the fading dust, a figure stood tall.
"…I thought I just caught a petty thief."
Steven stepped forward, now having removed the stocking mask. His stance shifted—feet planted firmly, one fist raised high above his head, the other held in front of him in a textbook military martial arts pose.
"…Turns out I stumbled into a terrorist nest."
He inhaled sharply—
"Hah—HEY!"
"Any evil shall be brought to justice!"
