Chapter 597: If It's Done Out of Kindness, Can You Even Call It Stealing?
As for how Steven had managed to snatch the item back from someone else in the blink of an eye, Lin Yuhsia had already given up trying to understand it.
This wasn't the first—or even the second—time he had pulled off something ridiculous like this anyway. At this point, she simply assumed he had another absurd ability that he never showed her.
Watching Steven casually play with the wine cup in his hand, Lin Yuhsia could only sigh helplessly.
What she didn't understand was why he had to go through all this trouble in the first place.
If he truly wanted the cup back then and there, all he had needed to do was pressure the detective agency's owner a little. There was no way the man could have held his ground against Steven.
"And now that you stole it back, isn't that basically the same as announcing to everyone that you did it?"
The owner wasn't an idiot.
Steven had shown interest in the cup one moment, and the very next moment it had mysteriously vanished. Anyone with half a brain could connect the dots and realize Steven was involved.
Looking at him with confusion, Lin Yuhsia finally voiced the question.
"Hey now, this isn't stealing."
Steven immediately corrected her with complete seriousness.
"I was telling the truth earlier. That thing staying in his hands—or yours, or even Wei Yenwu's for that matter—wouldn't necessarily be a good thing."
He lightly tapped the wine cup in his hand.
"The thing inside this cup can affect people's minds. I'm saving him here. How can you call taking dangerous contraband away from someone 'stealing'?"
The thing residing within the cup might already be incredibly weak, but it still wasn't something an ordinary human could resist. Clinging to something you couldn't control was just asking to get possessed one day.
"And besides," Steven added, "I left an identical replacement behind. Honestly, I doubt he'd even notice the difference between the two cups."
With Minecraft-style abilities at his disposal, creating a perfect replica of a cup was laughably easy.
As for whether Lin Yuhsia might betray him? Steven wasn't worried in the slightest.
This little mouse was already firmly aboard his ship. As long as he wasn't doing something that threatened the entirety of Lungmen, then forget sneaking away a cup, even if he dragged her along to rob a Lungmen bank, she'd probably just end up quietly serving her sentence beside him.
"Fine, fine. Sounds like you."
Lin Yuhsia rubbed her temples in defeat before leaning closer again, curiosity still written all over her face.
"But I still don't get it. Why are you so interested in this thing anyway? Is there really something special about this cup?"
"There definitely is."
Steven deliberately paused just long enough to hook her curiosity—
"But I won't be telling."
Before she could react, he flashed her a teasing grin and casually stored the cup away into his inventory, making it clear he had no intention of elaborating further.
Lin Yuhsia's mouth twitched.
"You know, has anyone ever told you your personality is absolutely awful?"
"Oh, a lot." Steven nodded his head, looking entirely unbothered.
Seeing how utterly unconcerned he was about what other people thought, Lin Yuhsia could only let out another long, helpless sigh before silently lowering her head and following behind him.
Whatever, as long as he didn't end up flipping all of Lungmen upside down, everything else could still be considered a minor issue.
Still, even if Lin Yuhsia had no intention of asking any more questions, Steven's rare day off was far from over.
After glancing up at the sky overhead, he immediately gave up on the idea of heading back early to "ride his little pony."
It wasn't even dark yet. Centaurea was probably still asleep, so there was no reason to rush back.
Might as well wander around Lungmen a bit more.
After all, it wasn't like sightseeing cost him anything.
Having made up his mind, Steven turned around and looked toward Lin Yuhsia, who had very deliberately fallen silent in the hopes that he would simply ignore her existence altogether.
Unfortunately for her, the moment she felt his gaze land on her, the girl could only raise her head with the expression of someone who had already given up resisting fate.
"You're not planning to drag me into more nonsense, are you?"
Seeing the little mouse look so utterly defeated only improved Steven's mood further. Still, in order to avoid genuinely driving her into a mental breakdown, he forcibly suppressed his laughter and shook his head.
"Nope. This time, I promise it's normal."
He pointed toward the unusually lively streets around them.
"Are you guys celebrating some kind of festival soon? The atmosphere feels way more festive than yesterday."
Many of the shops along the street were already putting up decorations in advance, and the smiles on the faces of passing pedestrians made Steven feel strangely nostalgic.
"Mm… if you hadn't mentioned it, I might've forgotten too."
Lin Yuhsia glanced around at the streets, which really were noticeably livelier than usual, before suddenly seeming to remember something.
"If I remember correctly, today should be the Sauin Pilgrimage."
Then she shot Steven a sidelong look.
"If you're really that bored, maybe you could help my father hand out candy to the neighborhood kids or something."
A faint smirk tugged at her lips.
"Consider it accumulating at least a little karma for your lifetime of evil deeds."
