In the morning, Jerome Bonaparte woke up from a sound sleep and looked at Augusta, who was still asleep beside him. He carefully pulled back the covers, quietly got dressed, and tiptoed out of the room.
The entire process was silent, fearing to disturb the sleeping Augusta.
When Jerome Bonaparte left the bedroom and arrived at a door (Hofburg Palace had far more doors than the Tuileries Palace), he saw Count Gneer sitting on a chair at the door.
Count Gneer also saw Jerome Bonaparte, and quickly stood up to bow to Jerome Bonaparte, saying, "Good morning, Your Majesty!"
"Good morning, Count Gneer!" Jerome Bonaparte replied with a smile, "How did you sleep last night?"
"Wonderfully, Your Majesty!" Count Gneer said to Jerome Bonaparte and then asked, "How about you?"
"I did too!" Jerome Bonaparte nodded in response.
"Shall I take you to the bathing area?" Count Gneer continued to inquire.
"Certainly!"
Under Count Gneer's guidance, Jerome Bonaparte went to the washing area.
