Volunteering.

By definition, it was an act done without expecting anything in return.

From that perspective, the boy's explanation wasn't strange at all.

In fact, many hero cadets participated in volunteer work. It wasn't uncommon for students training to become heroes to spend their free time helping at shelters, orphanages, and welfare facilities.

The director had heard plenty of stories about young people with sincere hearts who devoted themselves to helping others.

Even so, he couldn't bring himself to trust them so easily.

For nearly half a year, he had been under constant pressure.

People had approached him again and again, each with different methods and different excuses.

Some offered funding.

Some proposed partnerships.

Others attempted to use influence and authority.

No matter how they approached him, the goal was always the same.

They wanted control of the orphanage.

Because of that, the director had become suspicious of almost everyone.
