I excitedly set up my workstation. My room was big enough—I just had to shove the bed all the way into the corner. Monitors went up, positioned away from both the door and the window. I drilled. Loudly. Ruthlessly. Completely ruining Alyssa's sleep.
She knocked twice.
I ignored it. I was in work mode.
"Lore!" Alyssa finally barged in. I turned my head and switched off the drill. "For fuck's sake! I need to sleep."
"But I'm not done!"
"I don't give a fuck about your gaming setup."
Wow. She really thought this was a gaming rig.
"It's not a gaming setup," I said, but she just rolled her eyes. "Wait—before you go, can you reach that monitor?"
"Where?" She scanned the room and pointed at the biggest one.
"That one?"
"Yeah." I nodded.
She reached for it anyway. One second a raging lioness, the next suddenly helpful. Her moods really flip on a dime. She dragged the monitor toward me as we unboxed it, then helped me mount it. That thing needed two hands.
