Chapter 387 - Chapter 387: The Righteous Ganging Up

Chapter 387: The Righteous Ganging Up

Slicing several Fallen Mermen in front of him into two, Lynn suddenly noticed that the battlefield was wide open.

He blinked quickly, realizing that the area, moments ago jammed with mermen, was now suddenly clear. The remaining Fallen Mermen kept a nervous distance from him, afraid to advance. He moved slightly, and the surrounding mermen flinched in terror.

Had he terrified them into submission?

Beside him, Geralt and the others were also drenched in blood. However, it was entirely the blood of the mermen; they were virtually unharmed.

The remaining Fallen Mermen were clearly gripped by fear and dared not charge again, allowing the group a chance to catch their breath. After several hours of intense, high-stress combat without a minute's rest—a duration that would have exhausted any normal person—Lynn's group, while not normal, also felt a degree of fatigue. Despite the exhaustion, they could easily continue the high-intensity fighting for several more hours if needed.

Lynn drove Aerondight into the ground and looked around. Only now did he have time to survey the surroundings. The shallows, the ice, the lake surface—all were covered in the corpses of Fallen Mermen, piled high and dense like garbage in a landfill, countless in number.

Too many of their kin had died. The remaining Fallen Mermen, even with the Elder God's power driving them, were finally cowed by fear.

Seeing that Its minions were utterly useless, the true entity finally appeared.

The mermen corpses floating on the lake suddenly began to sink one by one. Then, sounds of tearing and chewing flesh echoed from beneath the water. Hearing this sound, the remaining Fallen Mermen scattered in terror, fleeing onto the Isle of the Black Swan, away from the water.

Gurgle, gurgle—

A huge amount of bubbles rose to the surface of the lake, as if the water were boiling. As the bubbles grew denser, a thunderous crash broke the surface, and a green, humanoid creature over three meters tall emerged from the water.

The creature's head lacked any recognizable facial features but instead sported a massive maw. Horns extended from both sides of its head, and two green tentacles dangled like braids. Overall, the monster's appearance was strangely grotesque.

Though none of the party had seen this monster before, the moment they saw it, they all instantly realized this was the Shade of Dagon, the Elder God's shadow in this world.

Without a word, the Dagon Shade attacked the instant it appeared.

"ROAR—"

The savage roar whipped the water into towering waves. Despite Lake Vizima being an inland lake, the waves surged dozens of meters high. To be hit by such a massive wave would likely be no better than being crushed by a collapsing skyscraper.

"Lynn! Get inside, quickly!"

Marguerite and Yennefer immediately sealed the gap in the protective ward, and Lynn and the others rushed back behind the shield.

The colossal wave slammed against the ward. For a moment, the world spun, the ground shook violently, and a deafening roar filled their ears. Marguerite and Yennefer felt immense pressure, their faces paling, but they managed to hold the line.

When the wave receded, the area outside the protected altar had been entirely scoured away. While the group was sheltering behind the shield, the Dagon Shade had not been idle but had been moving toward the altar. As the waves dissipated, the Shade was already on the shallows, only meters away from the altar.

"Follow me, don't let It get near the sorceresses!"

Lynn was the first to rush out of the protective ward. In the blink of an eye, he was in front of the Dagon Shade. He swung the massive Aerondight like a club, smashing it into the Shade's chest.

Bang!

The sound was a grating clash of metal, as if striking steel. The Elder God's projection had a body harder than plate armor; even Aerondight, a sword capable of splitting plate, only managed to leave a crack on the Dagon Shade's chest.

Struck by the attack, the Dagon Shade raised the trident in its hand. Seeing this action, Lynn instinctively raised Aerondight to block.

Clang!

In the next moment, an overwhelming force slammed the sword. The trident struck Aerondight heavily, and the force sent Lynn sliding back several meters.

As the Dagon Shade prepared to pursue, Regis and Dettlaff shot past Lynn and lunged at the Shade. The two higher vampires moved faster than the limit of normal human eyesight. In the span of just a few breaths, bright sparks erupted across the Dagon Shade's body, indicating it had been hit countless times.

The Dagon Shade was enraged by the furious assault. It took a deep breath.

The next second, fetid black water sprayed out from its maw-like face. Regis and Dettlaff rapidly dodged, but some of the spray still hit their bodies. Regis's arm corroded and melted at a visible rate, while Dettlaff lost both his legs.

Just as the Dagon Shade prepared to launch another spray attack at the two higher vampires lying on the ground, Lynn descended from above, spinning like a top, and drove Aerondight down onto the Shade's head.

The blow from above forced the Dagon Shade's head downward, throwing the aimed spray off target. Mousesack slammed his oak staff onto the ground, and thick vines erupted from below, wrapping Regis and Dettlaff in layers, protecting them, and dragging them back into the altar area.

Lynn landed after the successful strike, rolled, and dodged the furious swing of the Dagon Shade's trident.

The Dagon Shade prepared to chase, but another figure leaped to its side, continuously attacking it like a dancer. It was Geralt. He joined the fray at the right time, attacking the Dagon Shade from the flank when it moved to pursue Lynn, successfully distracting it.

And when the Dagon Shade turned its attention to him, Lynn would circle back, swinging Aerondight to batter the exposed back of the Shade. Aerondight's power was superior to Geralt's sword, and even if it didn't break the Shade's skin, it left more scratches. This tactic meant that Lynn's few strikes were enough to shift the Shade's aggression back to him, allowing Geralt a chance to deal damage in turn.

After securing Regis and Dettlaff, Mousesack also joined the fight, initiating a righteous three-on-one assault against the Dagon Shade.
