Chapter 12 - Captain & Creature

A low growl escaped its jaws, its claws digging into the vessel. Slowly it pushed the front down, tipping the ship towards the front. People scattered, running, clawing their way back to the back of the ship. No one wanted to fall into the jaws of the creature before them.

"Hey Galadriel.. I hope you know how to swim." Mira said slowly, her hand trembling. Her gun shook, she couldn't aim straight. No matter how much she tried to act, she couldn't push away the fear that was building up. "Are you sure you want to go in there? Into the water I mean?" Galadriel asked, her head slowly turning to look at Mira. What was she thinking, wouldn't that just be death. "Mira think about it-" Yet Mira's voice came before Galadriel could say anything else. "I know! I get it.. Just trust me. Support me." The next moment something came hurdling towards Galadriel from Mira's direction. Landing just before her feet. It was Mira's gun. "You can use that.. I'll distract it." Galadriel's eyes slightly widened, her eyes shot over to Mira, but she was already running towards the front of the ship, straight towards the monster. "Mira.." Galadriel's eyes followed her, leaning down she picked up the gun.

Mira had drawn her sword, heading straight for the creature. Her blade slid along its skin, piercing it slightly, a cut along its claws. Without any warning, it let go of the ship. The ship shook, rocking back and forth, water spilling onto the deck. Yet without a single word, Mira had disappeared past the bow, diving straight into the water. "What?! Is she crazy?!" A familiar voice came from behind Galadriel, heading towards the front of the ship. Lysander looked into the waters searching for any indication of where Mira and the creature had went. His presence snapped Galadriel out, rushing towards the front herself, her eyes sliding along the waters surface, gun pointed at it.

"It's cold.. Yet it feels so familiar." Mira's eyes snapped open as she searched for the creature. It was a gamble on how long she could her breath. Her eyes shot to the side, seeing a nicely rowed set of teeth, a jaw wide open, ready to swallow her whole. Mira forced herself to move as fast as she can, jabbing her sword into the bottom of its jaw. She can't swing as effectively underwater, her breath is running out too. Landing her feet on the top of the jaw, Mira kicked back, gaining distance while its stunned for the slightest moment. Her arms moving before she could think, perhaps out of panic. She moved towards the surface, she needed fresh air. Gasping she looked up, the ship towering over her. Soft coughs left her lips. "Its coming.." Mira's voice cut through the silence. Just as she had said, the monster surfaced, diving straight for Mira. A sharp sound cut through the air, as a light yellowish light zoomed through the air, piercing the creature's body. It was Galadriel.

Galadriel threw the gun to the floor, drawing her spear. She hopped onto the front of the ship, turning her spear downwards. Without much of a thought, her spear almost shining with a familiar golden colour. Piercing its back, the creature shrieked, spinning around to throw Galadriel off. It dove into the water, disappearing into the depths. Mira almost audibly sighed of relief, swimming over to Galadriel. "Keep watch.. It may come back." Mira spoke slowly, yet it all fell into silence. They waited, watching closely, yet there was no sign of it coming back.

Suddenly it emerged, its tail slamming into Mira's stomach, sending her away through the water. Its claw grabbed onto Galadriel, pulling her along. Soon enough it dove back underneath. Galadriel, struggled, trying to pierce the creature, make it let go. Mira coughed, trying to regain herself. "Galadriel!" Her voice came out shaking, she had to go get her.

"Don't rush." Lysander spoke up, clapping his hand together, a soft dark blue hue emitting from them. The surface of the water shook, small waved forming. Suddenly the creature was pushed into the air, water holding it up. Sweat rolled down Lysander's hands, it was not something ordinary. It was Lysander's doing, was it some sort of mystical power. Mira didn't waste time thinking about it, her hands and feet moved towards the side of the ship. She forced herself back onto the deck, running towards the front as she gripped her sword tighter. "Wait.." Lysander murmured, squeezing his hands tighter against each other. The creature wailed as it was slowly crushed under the pressure, the water surrounding it's body. Soft cracks followed by a loud one, its body went limp, dropping Galadriel back into the water. Slowly Lysander let his hands apart, the water subsiding around the creature as with a loud crash it fell into the water, slowly floating back up to the surface soon enough. "Lower the anchor!" Lysander yelled, seeming waking up the crew, as they scattered to do what was ordered. Moments later Galadriel had climbed back onto the deck herself, out of breath.

"You two did well, and I hate to admit that your dangerous act did indeed help, Mira." Lysander paused and turned to face both of the girls. "You two go clean yourselves up and rest. I'll have someone of my men come down and take the valuable parts of the creature. We don't get these sort of attacks too much, and especially not these sort of things appearing of this size. Once they are done collecting, we'll resume sailing. Now go on you two." With that Lysander dismissed them, turning his back on them, to gaze at the creature.

Mira quietly laid in bed, and Galadriel sat at the desk, reading. Having cleaned themselves up, they returned back to their room. It was silent, though, there were things that they may have wanted to talk about, neither of them could say anything. Mira turned to her side, facing towards the wall as she sighed. Slowly she let herself doze off, relax. The sound of Galadriel flipping to the next page, almost soothing in a way.
