Inside the car, Mergo sat quietly looking through his phone, checking different articles about "The Reflection". Nail, sitting beside him, had a serious expression as he drove off Woggod, the city where Mergo was born and raised. At the same time, Mergo felt slightly uncomfortable, not really sure on how he should start a conversation with the experienced adult. Mergo's mind was a complete disaster right now, he was extremely scared, it was his first time coming through "The reflection of the world" what if he screwed something up? His mind kept drifting through different scenarios that could end up on a tragedy.
Surprisingly, Nail coughed, and decided to start a conversation.
"So…uh…how is your dad doing?" Nail asked, clearly curious, but trying to not appear like he was.
Mergo was surprised, never since they met, Nail had never started a conversation on his own, was this a sign they were getting closer maybe? Tho Mergo was happy that Nail was trying to be more open with him, he didn't really like his question.
Mergo's dad, Gregory, has never been the greatest dad, both him and Gaia couldn't stand him, a person who appreciated more his work and all his addictions. Tho Gregor has never been aggressive towards his family, and they have been living under the same roof, Gregor has never paid any attention towards his family, to the point that the only thing he did in the house was provide the money.
Mergo answered, acting just to be polite, trying to acknowledge Nail's efforts
"Well…You know him, he's fine, as usual" said Mergo turning his neck around towards the different views that crossed through his window.
Nail sighed, seemingly slightly happier than before as if he had gotten an achievement.
While so, Mergo was feeling extremely uncomfortable, if he was already slightly awkward with the silence before, now that Nail brought his dad into a conversation topic, the awkwardness multiplied tenfold.
Afterwards, both sides went back to the same silence they had moments ago, as if that question was never asked, Mergo put his earbuds back on, that way he could have a chance in case Nail wanted to ask something else. Once Mergo had his music back on, his mind drifted back to his current situation, Right now he was traveling on his way to a "Mother Mirror", the same place where reports say that tons of people come out with permanent injuries, Mergo's anxiety grew up even more, considering his only self-defense tool that he had was a simple hunting knife which he knew how to use on a simple degree. How was he supposed to defend himself against "The Torneds"?
221 years ago, The world was absolutely normal, nothing strange happened until june of that same year. A strange event happened, which the world baptized it as "The shattered fall", Different giant mirrors which appeared on complete random locations throughout the world, some appeared in cities, some other appeared in the middle of the seas… Later, it was revealed that those "Mirrors" were instead portals, which connected to a completely different world, and so, the public named those portals as "Mother Mirrors."
The car kept moving, every few times moving slower and slower, Mergo could see from the window a somewhat amazing view, tons of people moving towards the city's square. And even though there were tons of different buildings, a giant seemingly mirror rose through the sky, which could be around 60 meters.
A few minutes later, Nail parked inside an underground Parking, which was also extremely filled, obligating him to go down three whole floors just to find a spot.
Nail sighed, seemingly annoyed of the situation already
"We'll walk from here, we were lucky enough to at least find a spot not that far from the Mother Mirror. If we tried to find a spot closer, I'm sure we wouldn't have found any.
Mergo understood, and honestly? Nail was right , the Mother Mirror as from what he saw from the window, was that the portal was right in the square of the city, which was in the exact middle of all the whole "crystal jungle."
After around 20 minutes, They reached the square which was absolutely filled with people organized in different lines, waiting to be attended and cross the portal, surprisingly there was one line where a guard sat lazily as he played on his phone.
Mergo followed Nail which surprisingly went straight forward towards that exact line which caught his attention. On top of the guard there was a sign with the phrase saying "Guilds/Syndicates/Official Organizations entrance."
The guard was straighten his back as he noticed Nail coming by, tho he still had a smug and unsurprised look on his face
"Please hand your official Organization ID"
All the official organizations that entered through the Mother Mirror, had an official ID which held some surprising bonuses. Nail nodded as he took his wallet out, and from it his ID
Mergo curiously took a glance at it as Nail left it on the table, everything was basically as a normal ID, with the whole exception that it had an extra section, "Organizations:" and right there was the name, "The Hares//The Explorers.
"Okay, everything in order, but…haven't y'all moved to the north to keep exploring?
The guard asked with a smug smirk looking at Nail, almost as if he was thinking that just because he was from the government gave him the right to look at everyone else as inferior.
Nail sighed, almost as if he was tired of the same question.
"I've stayed behind with the intention of training this guy. plus I'm not that interested anymore on Field exploration missions.
The guard didn't inquire again, answering with a simple "Fair enough" as he signed some weird paperwork and let us in.
Mergo stood in front of the Mother Mirror with a completely surprised look, for him the "Portal" looked just exactly as a normal huge mirror. But at the same time anyone around it could feel almost as if some "Aura surrounded the giant mirror. The borders of the same, was of a platinum/silvery color. Besides Mergo, a party of 5 people or so went through as the most normal thing in the world, it almost felt as if the Mother Mirror had devoured them, As they went in one by one, Mergo noticed how the surface of the portal was watery and left transversal ripples as everyone came through.
Nail calmly touched Mergo's shoulder
"Don't be scared, it doesn't feel harmful or anything like that, it's almost as if you jump into a pool filled with water, tho you may feel how the air feels completely different there."
Mergo nodded, not sure how to feel,
With a final deep breath, Mergo closed his eyes and stepped through the portal as Nail followed him from behind.
