"How was your day?" Alina asked as he came home, her voice warm and curious as she watched him step through the door.
Dante paused in the doorway, his dark eyes finding her immediately. Behind him, Sable and Lucien shuffled in, both looking tired but happy after their long day.
Sable yawned dramatically. "I'm sleepy."
Lucien nodded. "Me too."
They both headed toward the stairs, too exhausted to even ask for a snack.
Dante watched them go, waiting until their footsteps faded before he answered.
Then he sighed. A long, deep, extremely dramatic sigh that carried the weight of a thousand kindergarten problems.
"Very rough," he said, opening his arms.
Alina chuckled and stepped into his embrace, wrapping her arms around him as he pulled her close. She patted his back soothingly.
"Oh, Dee! But you did good. It was your first time as a teacher. You survived. That is success."
He buried his face in her hair for a moment, breathing her in.
