Chapter 677: Spade Escapes, Kaido Goes Berserk!
The moment Ulz slowly drew his long sword, Blackbeard reacted instantly.
He released the Dark Acupoint.
At the same time, he grabbed Momonosuke and stepped backward.
The rest of his crew scattered and retreated with him, moving fast and clean.
Crack.
Bang!
In the next instant, the space where they had just been standing split open.
A sharp fracture spread outward, and the dark tunnel Blackbeard had created was cut apart and destroyed.
The cracks vanished quickly, as if the world was trying to stitch itself back together.
But it did not change the fact that Ulz had shattered Blackbeard's escape route with a single, casual slash.
If they had truly stepped into that dark passage, they might have been shredded the moment the space collapsed.
Blackbeard's jaw clenched.
His voice trembled slightly when he spoke, not from fear, but from rage.
"Do we really have to wipe them all out?"
He had endured enough.
Time after time, his plans were ruined by the Dragon Hunter Pirates.
From beginning to end, he had never gone out of his way to provoke them first.
But because Ryuunosuke was Ace's older brother, Teach was destined to stand on the opposite side from the start.
In that sense, he had been trapped in this conflict before it even began.
Now he was done enduring.
If the Dragon Hunter Pirates wanted to press him to the wall, then fine.
He would fight to the death.
"To wipe them all out?" Ulz repeated calmly.
"More or less."
"The captain's order is simple. Kill as many as possible."
As he spoke, the long sword in his hand dropped again.
Slash.
A terrifying cut descended.
Then, a powerful aura erupted.
It blocked the slash that was invisible to ordinary eyes.
Ulz paused.
He turned his gaze, expression shifting with genuine surprise.
"I never expected to run into you here."
"Kaido."
Ulz sheathed his long sword, confusion plain on his face.
Kaido had once spent time aboard the Dragon Hunter Pirates' ship.
They had even gotten along.
They had trained together. Drank together. Fought together.
So why was Kaido standing against them now?
Kaido did not answer.
Momonosuke shouted from behind Blackbeard, voice sharp with anger.
"Kaido, kill them!"
Purple gold flowing cherry blossoms surged from Momonosuke's body again.
He spun and rushed back toward Doflamingo's position.
If they could not escape, then they would end the battle first.
They could talk about everything else later.
Blackbeard's eyes narrowed.
He shifted his focus to Enel.
Even though Enel's attacks were terrifying, they were mostly lightning and energy.
For Blackbeard, that meant his Dark Dark Fruit could swallow much of the threat.
If Kaido could hold the line, then there was still a chance.
In an instant, the tension exploded.
The battlefield turned savage.
Ulz stared at Kaido, his expression complicated.
"Kaido… can you tell me why?"
Why were you on their side?
Kaido answered with action.
"Thunder Bagua!"
The strike came like a meteor.
Ulz had no choice but to meet it head on.
Whatever had happened to Kaido was no longer the point.
Ulz was standing here. His mission was clear.
So he would fight.
Ulz's ability was cutting, refined to the point where it could even damage space itself.
But it was not invincible.
A master of Armament Haki could defend against it.
And Kaido was exactly that kind of monster.
The two collided and became locked in a brutal exchange.
Two hours passed.
The battle was still raging.
No one could determine a winner in a short time.
Then Momonosuke, who had been fighting Doflamingo, dropped down and landed on Kaido's shoulder.
"Kaido, I'm leaving this place to you."
"Liberation!"
A strange, special energy gathered in Momonosuke's palm.
He pressed it down toward Kaido.
Kaido was in the middle of fighting Ulz.
He did not have time to defend himself properly.
Ulz seized the opening.
His blade flashed.
Kaido's entire left arm was severed.
The instant the arm fell, Kaido released a roar so violent it felt like it tore through the air itself.
The sound alone stunned the fighters nearby.
Those too close had blood running from their ears.
Momonosuke did not hesitate.
He dropped beside Blackbeard.
He transformed into his dragon form, grabbed the Blackbeard Pirates, and took off into the sky.
"Move!"
As he fled, Kanjuro and the samurai under him charged forward, swords raised, throwing themselves into the enemy to buy time.
Ulz's eyes widened.
He was the closest to Kaido and the first to sense something wrong.
"Everyone, get back!"
"Enel, be careful. Kaido's aura is unstable right now!"
Doflamingo reacted immediately.
"Everyone return to the ship. We'll handle this here."
He dashed toward Ulz.
Enel also moved in.
The three of them formed a triangular formation around Kaido.
Ulz still tried, even now, to pull Kaido back from the edge.
"Kaido, if you step away from them right now, I don't think the captain will blame you for anything."
Kaido's gaze drifted to Ulz.
His entire demeanor became strange.
He looked like he wanted to speak.
Like he was trying to force words out.
But nothing came.
Instead, Kaido's body began to crack.
Fine fissures spread across his skin.
Then an overwhelming aura surged out from inside him, wild and violent.
In that moment, Kaido completed his transformation.
Not the usual dragon form.
Something more vicious.
More warped.
A dragon that looked like a weapon with no soul.
"ROAR!"
Boom boom boom!
Kaido opened his jaws and unleashed a storm of cannon like blasts at the group in front of him.
Doflamingo instantly threw himself into defense, shielding the ships behind him.
The entire island shifted into threads, becoming Doflamingo's barrier.
Even so, the shield was nearly torn apart.
Kaido was no longer fighting like a man.
He was a war machine.
Attack after attack poured out as if they cost him nothing.
Ulz gritted his teeth.
"Find a solution, now."
"If we let him keep firing like this, we're all finished."
"And he can fly."
Doflamingo was already feeling the strain.
Right now, the only one who could truly injure Kaido was Ulz.
But Kaido's barrage was too dense.
Ulz could not get close.
If Kaido escaped in this state, the surrounding islands would suffer.
They could not shoulder that responsibility.
Ulz's voice carried a rare hint of helplessness.
"No. His attack frequency is too high."
"There's no opening."
He glanced at Enel.
"Enel, what about you?"
Enel released lightning again, teeth clenched.
"I've already gone all out."
Kaido's defenses were terrifying.
And they had trained together on the ship before.
It was like Kaido's body had adapted to their patterns.
Like he was becoming immune.
Under those conditions, how were they supposed to fight?
