Kairo body was hammered by the falling thunder. The protector armor offered frail protection in front of the rays of ember sky.
Kairo gasped in pain. His skin tainted dark by the jumping thunder above his body. His eyes were slowly tinted white as if his very soul was being sucked out of his body. Yet Kairo didn't give up. He couldn't give up.
" For Nyx ….for my mother...my father….for all those I decided to fight for I can't fall now " Kairo opened his mouth to scream at the sky. But absolutely no word came out. All that could be heard around was the thunder scolding him down from above.
Nyx fell to her knees in tears , Fabian balled his fist at the floor. While Mirelle could hardly hold the land stand her aura continuously flickering with every silent cry of Kairo. All they could do was observe his torture in silence.
" card mages…." Kairo said , sucking a huge mouthful of air. The white foam escaping his mouth made the onlookers quiver in fear. Kairo was turning into something different. The protector armor began shimmering and cracking like an exoskeleton that was being modified.
Kairo hugged his body in pain desperately trying to take away the protector armor but to no avail.
Crack..
Kairo stumbled forward about to give into the pain. Still he didn't fall , " I refuse to bend in front of you ...I would rather die standing " Kairo stared at Selis in the eyes. Unafraid to glance back at the devil itself.
" incredible… " Selis eyes twinkled with admiration.
Kairo let out a final sigh of relief when the thunder dispersed into the ground. "the pain has vanished" Kairo was slightly surprised at the sudden change. He soon noticed that everyone was looking at him even the onlookers who had the courage to stay and observe were baffled.
Alarmed Kairo took a look at his arms. The Protector armor had changed. Dyed now with a new tint of dark blue reminiscent of those old sword paladins of the past. Above the armor , Kairo noticed that lightning would sometimes jump in between the inches of the armor not harming him but as if it was now part of the armor.
" You have achieved card resonance. You have managed to fuse two completely incompatible cards ...I can't believe what my eyes are telling me. Kairo …..I think I love you " Selis was ecstatic

Falling from the sky was an imposing humanoid figure. His appearance although subtle caused many to tilt their head upward.
He wasn't exactly walking in the void he was floating at the top of a flying beast. Made entirely of orange flames. Its frame was so huge Kairo and the others could hardly determine who was standing on top of it. This wasn't a fake one but a real agent from the myths and legends. A real fire dragon.
The dragon sprang its wings outward causing the entire sky to be shielded by its magnificent aura. " call of the angel dragon " Magnus said. Placing the card in his finger into the void. One after another , Dragon cries could be heard ringing in the area like an orderly chorus signaling a battle charge.
From behind the figure , warriors wearing knight like armor emerged , sitting on top of the flaming dragons. With a flip of his finger. Magnus signaled the charge. They all began diving down .
The sky was painted red the reflection of the flames. One after another hallows of orange spread outward like the avenue of a new day reminiscent of the setting sun. In an orderly and yet chaotic manner the dragon angels moved in union their lances synchronized towards Selis and her people.
" a card mage sovereign…" The collector pursed his lips a hint of envy at the tip.
" the card mage police is invincible "
" as expected of this legend. The only undefeated card mage that has ever existed "
One after another the card mages commented in awe. They had all heard about the legend but seeing it for themselves was something else.
" Tsk…. Just Flashy " Selis said. Activating another card from her mantle. Behind her the atmosphere shifted , turning into a black cosmos. Particles of dark matter began colliding around each other sucked together like a pool.
" the void cannon " Kairo said in a low voice. This was the card Selis had used that very first day they met. But this time around Kairo understood just how slim his chance of survival had been back then.
The void cannon pressed forward. A black laser of condensed energy drew a line towards the sky. Its momentum was unstoppable , the Angel dragons were crushed one after another. Turning into void particles sucked into the cannon.
Before long , the two energies entered a final collision. Causing a nova like explosion to spread around the area. The wave of energy however was stopped by an invisible barrier that had appeared out of no where. Containing the explosion away from the civilians in towns.
" it's over for today Selis. You have caused enough damage in town. We both know your objective is not a genocide but just freedom " Magnus said from above.
Selis smiled at him and said no more. Then took a furtive glance at Kairo. It was almost impossible to know what she had in mind just from that look. " This is not over….we will meet back at the island of card fossil. And I hope by then you're back in shape Kairo..I definitely want to see how far your card magic can go " Selis added.
Then she turned her heels without care and walked away. The entire world looked at her golden hairs dancing back without a word. There was no one here capable of stopping her they could only step aside for her to leave. The underground card masters all regrouped behind her. Stepping into a portal created by one of them. A few seconds later they had all vanished.
One after another all the troops began leaving the battlefield. Now that Selis was gone there was no one able to stop the card mage police.
Sam cast a complicated look at Kairo. Then murmured a few things to his people and they all left.
The Collector and Card zero retreated into the shadows , vanishing from the building top.
The fight had been harsh but they had survived and got out even stronger than they had entered
" sorry for the late arrival. Kairo wanted me to trust him on this. And I guess I was right to listen " Magnus said to his group.
" sorry boss. I was useless on this one. I couldn't complete a simple task " Fabian said his frustration evident in his voice.
" you all had a role to play. And I am happy you didn't give up. " Magnus said. Then turned to the other officers who were slowly arriving giving them orders. " Clean up and arrest all the others "
Although they didn't get out unscathed. Some criminals like Draco and Harid had been abandoned here. They would end their days in prison for their crimes.
" Mirelle … " Kairo rushed to his mother. Catching her before she fell onto the ground. Mirelle was barely breathing life slowly leaking out of her body. Kairo used his finger to wipe the blood on her lips. It was hot and sticky.
" I'm sorry Kairo. This wasn't supposed to end this way…"
" Enough I will take care of you now. It's over ...Mirelle...it is over mother " Kairo said. These were nothing more than words , but for Kairo there was a heavy stone lifted off his heart. Having faced such a desperate situation , Kairo didn't want to hold it back anymore. She was his mother no matter what she had done in the past.
There was a visible strain in Magnus expression when he saw Kairo and Mirelle. But he didn't intervene. He could not now that Kairo had acknowledged her. " We will take care of her wounds at the headquarters. Fabian would you take Danzan with you.. "
" NO problem...my wounds are not as serious as theirs anyway " Fabian said. Walking away.
One after another , the officers were carried into vehicles. Taken back to the headquarters for treatment.
In the car , Kairo sat on the back seats . With Mirelle leaning on his shoulder. Her breathing rising and falling near his ears. This was a first time for Kairo. He stilled himself unsure of how to react. " is this what it feels to be close to her " Kairo said inwardly.
He couldn't remember the last time he touched his mother. Maybe in that dream where she was holding his little arms. But now they were back together. Kairo heart was unstable sometimes beating faster sometimes beating slowly.
" I'm happy you two have reconciled with each other. Lucky you Kairo. You now have a complete family " Nyx said . Seated on the other side of the seat , she would keep her eyes on the scenery away from Kairo and his mother. As if she fell apart.
" a family ? " Kairo felt that might not be the best way to qualify them. His parents were alive but they weren't exactly a family yet. " You're part of this family now too . Don't forget you're mine " Kairo said with a smile.
Nyx movement slowed for an instant , her eyes twinkling with unspoken emotions. The tenderness in Kairo eyes causing her to melt into a smile.
In between them Mirelle moved slightly, causing Nyx cheeks to turn red. " sorry to disturb you both. " Mirelle said in a low voice.
" you're not disturbing us captain Mirelle "
" just call me Mirelle "
Kairo could finally stay at ease. Laughing at Nyx embarrassment in front of his mother. The day had been long but it was finally over.
