Kairo and Nyx waited at the door bell. Well dressed and eagerly waiting for Mirelle entrance. Kairo had opted for something relaxed and formal. A white blue shirt and a trouser. While Nyx wore a blue gown. Unintentionally they looked like a pair wearing almost the same color.
Mirelle entrance was full of warm and joy. She had a smile on her face that gave off a reassuring vibe. She cast a motherly gaze onto the duo. " you seem to both have gotten even closer than the last time we met "
" mother welcome to our villa " Kairo greeted.
" welcome madame Mirelle..miss Mirelle ...how should I call you " Nyx was turning red. Unable to form a correct sentence.
Kairo gently tapped her back in an attempt to let her relax. He could understand why she was so stressed. It was a little like him presenting his woman to his parents. It was only normal for her to act this way. She wanted to make a good impression.
Kairo had not seen things this way until this very moment. For him it was just a meeting with his mother and his girlfriend.
" just call me Mirelle. No need for so much formality. Here I am not a captain " Mirelle said simply trying her best to sound as casual as possible. But her presence and aura had been forged over the years and it was not something easy to hide.
" Okay Mirelle " Nyx said timidly.
" I didn't know what you would like eating thus I asked the maid to cook several different dishes. Some salad, crudités ,..and many more " Kairo said.
The trio got to the dining room. Now full of the best dishes that were currently available. Prepared by the best chef Kairo could hire. The air around them was so sweet Kairo nostrils were dancing urging him to get closer.
" Wow Kairo there was no need for such. I barely eat that much " Mirelle said. Her tone leaving Kairo delighted. Although she wasn't showing it, he could see how happy she was.
The trio sat at the dining table eating and chatting lightly about Kairo and how he had been when still little. Although at first it was very awkward with Mirelle unable to start any conversation with Kairo. They had almost no memory together. Feeling the silence growing heavy, Nyx joined in and asked about Kairo when he was still little.
" He was a real ball of energy… " Mirelle said.
Kairo learned he was very curious as a kid. His passion for card magic had started very early. When he was five he even stole one of his father's cards to play with. Unfortunately he couldn't play long with it. He fainted few minutes later from the aura drain. Mirelle and Magnus had a heated argument because of that and Kairo was forbidden from getting close to those cards until the awakening.
" He was so cute little Kairo. I can't believe it " Nyx eyes were twinkling like stars. On Mirelle phone there were tons of photos and videos of Kairo still little. " shut up " Kairo cursed embarrassed at their laughter.
Despite that, Kairo felt at ease. They two were getting along pretty easily. He knew they were both trying to get along for his own sake. " she is trying hard to help me and Mirelle break the ice. I am so lucky " Kairo said inwardly. Without her help it would have been hard for Kairo to even know where to start.
In the moment Kairo finally learned the whole version of the story. After Mirelle came back with Kairo that day. Magnus gave her an ultimatum. She would be taking care of him until he was five. After which she would have to stay away from him out of his life until Kairo was big enough to think on his own.
Kairo felt revolted and angry. How could he do that to a new mother. This was clearly for his own sake still Kairo had a hard time accepting how far his father went to keep him safe.
Few minutes later, the trio returned to their seat done with the album. " After you got five...Magnus separated us as agreed on. " Mirelle said with a sigh. Her face had grown lighter as if talking about it helped her heal.
" It's over . Now we are together and I am not leaving either of you two. No matter what we have to go through " Kairo said.
" I'm sorry Kairo if you were to leave us I wouldn't allow you to rest in peace. You better stay alive " Nyx said with a very serious expression. Kairo felt she was really ready to haunt him if he tried to die even accidentally.
Kairo leaned on his chair, his eyes moving into the distance. For all those who had been present at the fountain. They knew this was not a simple glance in the void but at what was hidden just on that side. The island of card fossil. " We don't know what awaits us there " Kairo said
He didn't want to think about it at this particular moment but it was impossible for him to act like everything was fine. With the strength Selis had shown it was clear they would meet there. Kairo was uncertain if he would be up to par by that time.
" I understand your fears. It is just normal. Selis is a card sovereign. We too have been greatly surprised by that . " Mirelle added.
" by the way what exactly are those card sovereigns. I have made deep research on the card mage police before joining but I never heard about anything like that " Nyx asked.
Mirelle sighed and started talking. " I too was clueless about their existence until yesterday. It was nothing more than a lost name a myth like the mage awakening or the deck of origin. " Mirelle started. " in the past there were called sovereigns because they were the very first people whose card magic transcended all the limits that existed. Those who were the closest to achieving the state called the mage awakening. "
" Six star officers or card Sovereign like we call it….their power is really impressive. " Kairo said. The image of the ember sky was still vivid in his mind. The call of the angel dragon was both grand and majestic. All those cards had power that made Kairo only reel in envy.
" Sorry for spoiling the mood we weren't supposed to talk of this here " Kairo said.
" Don't worry. We would have had to do so anyway. Whether now or later it doesn't really matter. What does matter now that we started is you getting ready. You both will learn more about card resonance in a few days at the HQ. " Mirelle said.
" wow I can't wait to find out. Kairo was incredible that day. If I could do the same with my card magic. I dare not imagine the level we would reach " Nyx added. Her passion bubbling in her balled fist. This was a trait that Kairo and Nyx both shared deeply. Their passion for card magic and its mysteries.
" well I think I will be leaving both of you now. The day has just started and you both shouldn't just stay at home the whole day. We don't know when you will get another chance to be together when we depart for the island " Mirelle said. In her mind it was clear the duo would be coming. No one could dissuade Kairo from going after all what he had learned and Nyx would just follow him even into hell thus she didn't even mention it.
Kairo and Nyx walked Mirelle to her car. Although barely two hours had passed Kairo felt like they had chatted for an entire day. Given her responsibilities in the card mage police it was already a good thing she gave everything up to meet Kairo today.
" you're a good girl Nyx . Please take good care of Kairo. " Mirelle said.
" I promise I will " Nyx replied.
Kairo waved at his mother. 'she is just here Kairo. About to leave. Just take her in your arms. You might not get this chance..come on..be courageous Kairo' inwardly Kairo was battling his instinct to move. For an unknown reason part of him wanted it but another part was still resistant unwilling to accept the sudden change. As if Magnus grip on him had not completely vanished.
" aren't you going to tell her goodbye Kairo ? " Nyx asked slightly surprised at his lack of reaction. Given how excited he had been at the start it fell out of place.
" Let's just leave this place " Kairo shrugged it off. Whatever his job as a card mage officer was not done yet. They would have plenty of time to spend together in the future. He told himself.
